Possible Visa Problem ?

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, l have a 1 year multiple entry visa B expiring December. l ofcourse have to leave every 3 months & get a new stamp. l paid a local thai lawyer to get me a work permit & a new visa issued here. My lawyer took my passport over a week ago to get a new visa issued. Problem is the stamp l got on my last visa run expires 31 October, now! So, can't do a visa run cause lawyer has my passport. Went to immigration, explained it to them, even showed reciept proving my lawyer has my passport. They say l will be fined 500baht for every day of overstay ! My lawyer says l have nothing to worry about, she will take care of it. Any suggestions & advise appreciated. :D

Normally, on Oct 31 you would go to immigration and apply to extend the visa. They would take it under advisement and tell you to come back in a month (or so) for an answer.

I would not employ a lawyer who told me "don't worry" and refused to tell me what was going on, though. Just my two satang.

You don't need a new visa as your current one runs until December, then you would get an extension to stay based upon your work permit.

I would get your passport back from your lawyer and go to the border. There is not enough time to sort out your WP beforehand I think.

My neighbour has gone through a lot of problems with his permit. His renewal was problematic and he had his business account locked. He has also spent a lot of time without his passport, which also prevents him getting money. He was often told 'not to worry' and little else.

Currently his lawyer, who has just bought a new car, is holding his passport (he gave it to the lawyer afer a visa run), likely waiting for a newly presented bill to be paid. (I believe about 80k).

Applying for the work permit, with only a week left on the stamp, was the original mistake. I hope your lawyer came well recommended.
