Opening in 2010, in the eastern coastal resort destination of

Pattaya, the Hilton Pattaya will be the seventh Hilton Family hotel in

Thailand

SINGAPORE & BANGKOK--(Business Wire)--

Hilton Hotels Corporation today announced that its subsidiary has

signed an agreement with CPN Pattaya Beach Co. Ltd (a subsidiary of

Central Pattana Public Company Ltd) to manage the Hilton Pattaya, a

300-room upscale full service hotel in the beginning of 2010.

Koos Klein, Area President, Hilton Hotels - Asia Pacific,

commented, "With its rich diversity of culture, climate and

topography, Thailand continues to be an extremely popular destination.

The Hilton Pattaya will be a fantastic new offering, answering to a

growing demand for upscale accommodation in Pattaya, among leisure

travelers from Thailand and overseas."

The Hilton Pattaya will be part of the new Central Festival

Pattaya Beach complex, one of the largest beachfront-shopping

complexes in Asia. The 240,000 sq meter mixed-use development, with

over 200 leading international shops and restaurants, comprises a

7-floor cosmopolitan shopping mall anchored by a 23,000 sq meter

Central Department Store (one of Thailand's leading department store

chains). It will also house a 10-screen cinema, a 25-lane bowling

alley, a 3,000 sq meter supermarket and multiple recreational

facilities. Located along Pattaya Beach Road, the development offers

stunning views of the Pattaya Bay.

With an exclusive ground floor entrance, the main lobby of the

Hilton Pattaya will be located on the 7th floor, with the 300 upscale

guest rooms located in a 15 storey tower above the lobby. The 25th

floor restaurant will serve as Pattaya's first premium sky restaurant

overlooking the Pattaya Bay.

To meet the growing demand for quality MICE (Meetings, Incentives,

Conventions and Exhibitions) facilities and service, the Hilton

Pattaya will be designed with extensive banqueting, ballroom and

meeting space equipped with state-of-the-art technology to ensure

flawless events. With a lobby lounge and bar and two restaurants, the

Hilton Pattaya will offer guests a wide range of contemporary

authentic dining experiences. It will also feature a health club, spa

and swimming pool.

"The Hilton Pattaya is a great addition to the Hilton portfolio,

allowing us to offer groups and individual travelers more meeting and

vacation options in Thailand and throughout Asia," said Jeff Diskin,

senior vice president - brand management, Hilton Hotels & Resorts.

This is just one of the many nails in the coffin of Pattaya being a cheap place for pay for play.

Pattaya already had a Sheraton and a Marriott. Now it's going to have a Hilton.

If all of the big name 4 star hotels are in a city then prices in that city are not going to be cheap and I can see prices for P4P in Pattaya getting towards those for Phuket and Bangkok.

The go go bars, beer bars, etc will still be here for a few more years but it is just that they will just get more expensive.

The authorities are determined that Pattaya will evenually be seen as purely a family holiday place or a place for businessmen to relax. Expect the P4P scene to be marginalised and cut back heavily in the coming years.

For example, I don't think you will see freelancers in the future being free to wander up and down the beach as they do at present as the authorities will be keen to 'clean up' the image of Pattaya given all of the big money interest there now is in the place.

Just to think that this was just once only a sleepy fishing village where US Navy personnel would visit for some R&R activity.

Remembering Pattaya from the 70:s and visiting it today is like going to another planet. :behead

This news has been posted before, but it makes one wonder if all the rumours might be true and that there is a plan to move all the bars to another location away from walking street and Beach road to make Pattaya more family friendly? :D

Move the fun bars, fine, no problem, I'll go there instead. Just as long as they don't close them. :banghead

Agree 100%, so what if the bars and go-gos are moved to the other side of 2nd Rd. It isn't like one would have to travel a great distance. Besides if the monger hotels are also located in that area what's the difference. I can't ever recall where I went to one of the go-gos on the beach side of Walking st and asked for a seat that had a view of the gulf.

One of the big selling points for the Hilton has always been the ability of blind people to negotiate the rooms. (Same layout etc ). Not much good if they survive that only to get barrelled by a mototaxi on Beach road.

The authorities need to clean up the beach and the ocean before they can be serious. Phuket, Bali and the Islands will kill Pattaya in that market. Although A Hilton will mean less of those disapproving Farang bitches wandering the streets with a husband in tow with his tongue hanging out venturing into our space. (Not that I fucking care)

Sybarite, please explain to me how another 4 or 5 star hotel is going to destroy p4p in Patts. Sukhumvit in BKK has more 5 star hotels than Pattaya could possibly attract in the next two decades and there is a thriving p4p scene in and around Sukhumvit and all those 5 star hotels are GF and there are lots of cheaper and affordable hotels and beer bars in the same area. Prices may rise a little but BKK is still infinitely more affordable than anything I know in farangland. Patts will be no different and it's going to take quite a while for Pattaya to catch up to BKK.

They were also determined to stamp out drugs and street crime. Nuff said? :D

Many years ago in BKK there used to be nudity in all the bars in Nana, Patpong, etc and the bars/discos could open well past 2am. There was lots of naughtiness happening e.g. restaurants where girls would blow you under the table and some bars in Nana were like those in Soi 6 where customers could be blown publicly in the go go bar.

Then came the crackdown a few years ago which banned nudity and fixed closing times at 2am for the go go bars. There have been some relaxation e.g. nudity being allowed in Soi Cowboy (because it is off the tourist path) but the closing times have remained rigidly in place for Soi Cowboy and Nana. Also none of the bars in Nana or Patpong have girls dancing nude openly.

A few years ago the Pattaya go go bar scene was mushrooming in size and the authorities were happy for the naughtiness that used to be in BKK to move there because it was out of the way - 2 hours away - instead of openly happening in the capital.

Nowadays Pattaya has become an extremely large city and thriving city by Thai standards - with condos, luxury hotels, shopping malls appearing all over the city.

I can see a case of deja vu as with what happened in BKK. The authorities will first of all try to move the naughtiness out of the main entertainment street, Walking Street, to somewhere less high profile like Soi Buakhow. They may say that all bars in walking street can't have nude dancing and they may introduce early closing times e.g. 2am like BKK.

The authorities have shown that if they want to put the shackles on then they can put them on and keep them on - like they have with BKK. They have had temporary crackdowns like they have had in Pattaya but if they wanted to they could make these crackdowns permanent.

They can put restrictions on the naughtiness pretty quickly if big business demands it and I can see that the big business around the malls, condos, hotels, etc being likely to exert increasing pressure on the authorities.

Of course I am not saying that one more "4 or 5 star hotel is going to destroy p4p in Patts" by itself however it is part of the general pattern - the same pattern which led to severe restrictions in BKK on P4P.

You mention that there is a "thriving p4p scene in and around Sukhumvit and all those 5 star hotels are GF" but there is a difference between girls loitering around the streets, which the authorities have found difficult to stop in ANY city around the world, and girls dancing naked in bars which any member of the public can walk off the street into without paying an entrance fee. The latter would not be tolerated by the authorities in any other city in the world (e.g. it is not allowed in the Philippines) and is certainly something which the authorities can easily stop.

International hotel chains are only recently in Pattaya, even on the 70's, the Holiday Inn was already in Pattaya for short time, the actually Hard rock hotel and before Merlin, but then since the 90's Pattaya was without international group, Marriott and Hardrock are only since the early 2000's with international and Sheraton from 2005, on the 90's Ramada try with again the Merlin and tropicana was a Novotel like Mercure for the Cholchan, it seem that today all brand are interested for open in Pattaya, a Meridien and Holiday Inn are also on the schedule.

Really? The large upmarket hotel chains - Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton, etc have always traditionally been snooty about guys bringing girls back. They would probably allow one up but if you brought back two girls then they either would not allow both up or they would charge you a joiners fee or charge you as if there were three people staying there.

They do this partly because they have an image that they need to maintain. The majority of the customers who stay there will probably not be mongers and there are likely to be many families staying who will not like the idea of skanky ho's hanging around inside the lobby and outside the entrance to the lifts.

So I don't think that these 4/5* hotels can be classed as freelancer central with ladies of night swarming all over the hotel - unless you are thinking of Nana hotel and that cockroach infested sleaze pit is hardly 5* or even 4*.

Err, the Sheraton Grande is home to BarSu, originally Rivas, and has been a freelancer joint for years. As has Spassos at the Hyatt, Club 87 at the Conrad and CM2 at the Novotel. All of the aforementioned hotels are guest friendly.

Of the lower Sukhumvit hotels, I have stayed at the Marriott, Westin and Sheraton ...... all three are totally guest friendly. What all these hotels also have in common is that the punters and the girls are treated with the utmost courtesy, something that can't be said for many of the more typical monger hang-outs.
