Best and Most Authentic Thai Restaurants

Recommended Posts

I know this seems like a daft topic, but I wondered which were the best and most aunthentic Thai restaurants in Pattaya.

I know a lot of the English bars provide Thai food, but it's pretty standard stuff and of average quality.

Would be interested to know as the feedback on this site is always quality!

Someone asked Big Bill Broonzy a long time ago what a folk song was. His answer: "I guess they all are. I ain't never heard a horse sing one yet."

Thai food made to taste like English food by adding, oh, A-1 sauce isn't authentic, any more than that Thai "pizza" they pour sugar and ketchup on "so that Thais will like it". Apart from obvious stuff like that, it's all authentic.

a good thai restaurant , you wont find it in pattaya, the best ive found is called sutanrak, its at the far end of jomtien beech rd, the very end, its out doors and has a very good sea food selection, very reasonably priced, get there at 6pm and watch a great sunset, if its not STILL raining

There are at least a dozen GREAT Thai restaurants, full-on restaurants in Pattaya. That's why so many Thais go there - or maybe vice-versa.

I have been to this place. I thought it was ok, nothing really special and a few too many flies trying to get a free meal. I am not knocking your choice, just adding that everyone's tastes are different.

To the OP, don't knock the places in the tourist areas. Try to find places where you see mainly locals eating.

Where are they?

Well, that's the point. They're all over. They are beside the Orchid Resort, inside the Tropicana grounds, way up in Jomtien, at the corner of Soi 10, up by the second road bowling alley, sort of across the road from the big Foodland....

Best advice above is to see where a lot of Thai PEOPLE i.e. tourists are all eating. Look for a full parking lot, best proof they're tourists.

I have OFTEN driven from Bangkok to Pattaya for dinner and straight back. Thais will drive for hours for a good meal. They are driven by their stomachs, hahahahaha I slay myself.

Try Steak Bao (formerly Steak Lao) but take someone who knows Thai food. Despite the name, it's not Isan.

Doesn't it all depend on how authentic you want Thai food to be . Most authentic Thai food i wouldn't eat myself - dried fish, takatan ( fried locust), nampik, no thanks . I will stick to the westenized versions of Thai dishes like Tom yung goong , Massaman curries etc which you will find in most thai restaurants.

most authentic is that bought from a street cart or comes in a bag or Styrofoam box, since this is the way most Pattaya Thais eat, & not just in Patts but much of Thailand

I drove by Soot Tahng Ruk only yesterday , hmm

it means "The Final Way of Love" or End of Love

there's one near where I am called Dton Tahng Ruk, beginning of love

Well, yes, in a way. But OP wanted to know of restaurants where full meals and table spreads are available.

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you could read.

I didn't give you five restaurants, I gave you ONE restaurant SUGGESTION.

I gave you general directions where you can find many of them. If you cannot follow those directions and find another ELEVEN (not seven) restaurants, then you can't and you'll have to deal with the hard cheese.

"Hole in the Wall" place on Soi Bukhao has had a lot of good reports lately.

Odd, that..because my TG won't eat there or eat the food I bring from there. She says it's not clean. That doesn't stop me from eating there, but what do I know?

I'm sorry joe, I didn't realize asking you where these twelve restaurants are would cause you to get nasty. :D

Priced differently but Marine Seafood (the smaller one) and PLC kitchen (Jazz Pit) are good as is Lengkee.

Preecha seafood in Ban ampur is superb.:D

Dave;

I agree on the PIC Kitchen and Lengkee, always stop at least once at each during a trip (however, the staff chasing around giant cockroaches on the beams did put me off PIC a bit last time :grin )

Which is the smaller marine seafood? -

The problem with restaurants is they come and go. Seems like 50 per cent of my trips to Pattaya wind up in a place other than the one I was thinking of, that disappeared. Suthep used to be one of the top restaurants in Thailand, then it wasn't.

On top of which the cooks come and go, or the owners fall out, and the quality drops out. I really hate recommending anything but HUGE and old restaurants like Nang Nual that have been around for 20 years, and even then I don't recommend anything but a try.
