Buffalo Bar--going down hill, not as good as it used to be

Recommended Posts

First, I will start by saying some positive things:

1. Still a good drink value only 75 baht for drinks during peak hours

2. No swarming there so you buy one lady a drink and you dont have to worry

about other ladies wanting drinks also.

So Buffalo Bar still a good value even factoring in round trip taxi price of 200-300 baht

from Walking street.........so you can go to Buffalo Bar, drink for a few hours, and your

bin tab will be less than 1,000 baht....

Now the unfavorables,

1. There seem to be three types of ladies at the Buffalo Bar now, over-the-hill, brats, and

nasty-looking..........many ladies seem too old to be working there, over 40 years, and it

is kind of annoying having to waive so many of them off.........the 21ish go-go dancers seem

to have a Las Vegas style arrogance(ignoring their customers to talk on the phone, or with

other go-gos, returning when time for antoher drink).....I also saw 4 or 5, heavily tattoed

ladies that looked nasty(like they were walking the streets of LA)........in all, not the nice

ladies that used to be there....

2. I noticed a high turnover in the service staff, so many of the Buffalo Bar service staff that

I know, I actually saw at other bars, and they said the Buffalo Bar now has some bad

management(from the Thai employees perspective)...

3. On past visits to the Buffalo Bar I was treated like a king;however, on my last three visits

it seemed the customers were there for the ladies "convenience," in fact, one guy that most everyone

probalby knows(looks caucasian and drives a scooter on second road and tries to get you to visit a condominium, and when

you waive him off he curses and swears at you!) yes, he was there, did not buy any drinks for ladies,

and got better treatment than several guys who bought drinks for the bratty go-go dancers!

So that is my observations about the Buffalo Bar...still worth a visit, but barely!....

I have to agree with this one...

When I first started coming to Thailand, Buffalo bar was top notch... one of the better places to go.

the last few months has seen that go down hill very fast... Now I dont bother much anymore. Its just not worth the trip.

It is undeniable that the overall quality at the Buffalo Bar is well down on its prime years. Why ? well I would never have promoted Sandy to be a manager. I think that was the most important mistake as her attitude is atrocious and her begging mentality is not a shining example for the other girls to follow.

If you remember, the Buffalo was promoting girls dancing before this coyote bullshit and was ahead of its time. Barfines were high then at Bt400 for LT but ST was better value as it included the room. After 12am barfines fell to Bt200.

I used to love the place and often visited. Over the last couple of years I pop in occasionally and still have a couple of friends there but the old magic is gone and I don't know how they can get it back.

Last time a few of us were in the mamasan tried begging off two of us and wouldnt stop asking for a drink despite us not even wanting to talk to her. Another time I bought a lady a drink and her friend came over and spoke to her and I was left with nobody to talk to, so it made my mind up not to BF her even though we had already talked price. She asked why I was leaving, so I told her. Its a buyers market. They shouldnt forget that.

The last time I was there was probably 18 months ago. At the time, it seemed OK and was a little different from the typical beer bar or go go, with the outdoor atmosphere and the dancing girls.

I didn't feel hassled by the girls, although I did end up buying a coupe of lady drinks. They seemed to have a good crowd.

I'd say it might be worth a trip i you're in the area sometime. I wouldn't go to a lot of trouble to make a special trip, though.
