hi chaps some help please thinking off having my hols for a change around the 27th off december ,,just need help and advice on how busy it is,,, hotels are they easy to book or more pricey this time off year and new years eve is it celebrated in a big way ..or is it just a normal wild night,,,many thanks

Yes it is busy. Hotels are well booked up, well priced up and often include an obligatory gala dinner for NYE.

It is celebrated in a very big way with spectacular fireworks and quite wild, much more so than an average evening in August!

You will enjoy yourself but book early.

I agree with jacko book early. There are places that don't hit you up for the 'Gala New Years Dinner'.

New Year in Pattaya is probably better than in most countries, however like already said above you can get stung for anything between 1000 & 4000 baht extra for the gala dinner on the 31st.

 

Sometimes these events can be an ok start to the evening but they are certainly overpriced.

I'm 02, 03 & 04 I was there over Christmas/New Year. The atmosphere was great, IMO easily the best time of year for that.

 

The only reason I changed from then was the cost. EVERYTHING - UK transport, flights, hotels, barfines, girl "tips", etc, etc. goes up, and not by a little. I don't mind paying a small premium for the busy season, but it all adds up to just too much for me. I did work it out one year and, for the cost of a a 4 week trip then, I could have had 6 weeks around October or February. That was the last high season for me.

 

If cost isn't a factor, go then, it's fun. If you are going, then book everything you can as soon as you can, Pattaya fills up.

Was supposed to come home last Dec 28th but was very ill so stayed over the new year, managed to go out new years eve ut just sat in the corner all night feeling like shit, all I remember was I've never seen a place so busy, took us about 1 hour to get back to the hotel.

Yes, the hotels fill up fast and a lot of them charge more. I know the Sandy Spring adds a 500 baht extra charge for the last week in Dec and first week in Jan. Extra high season.

 

I have stayed a few of the hotels that charge for the 'gala dinner' for both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, the only problem I had with that, they didn't even have a dinning room. BTW, the places that actualy had dinners, you had to pay even if you didn't want to or go to the dinner, like in no choice.

I arrive 30th December I got my flight with Eva £540 now its £200 more.

 

I have booked a guest house on Soi lk they don't sting you for the Gala dinner.

 

I sorted it all back in May.

Yeah I remember that NYE with LY. My favorite memory of that night was some idiot taking a bar table into the middle of the Soi and putting this big ass Roman Candle on top of the table. This fool lights the damn thing and the force from the thing knocks over the table and it shot into a group of vendors, watching them scramble was a hoot.

 

However, that particular NYE was the week after the Tsunami hit Phuket so allot of travellers had to divert to Pattaya. I think it was more crowded than normal.

 

The big pisser is the girls could not go BF that nite, they had to work the bar unil the early morning hours. This was not so on Soi 6, but most of the bars had this policy. Get your barfine lined up early or the day before, thinking you might grab something that night might be a problem.

 

Last year I did Angeles City as I had planned BKK but the Airport fiasco made me change my plans. I'm planning on doing BKK for NYE. It'll be fun.

Yep, be prepared for only being able to get some obscure seat in the corner of your favourite go go bar because it is so packed and stumbling over lit fireworks that have been left in the middle of the sidewalk.

I spent last new year in pattaya with 2 of my friends.all of us in our early 30's and can say we had one of if not the best night of our lives.it was brilliant.we started off around soi 7 and 8 and then headed upto walking street about 22.30.we went to hot tuna(the large open fronted one in the centre of WS).we grabbed a table right on the street and just drank.sang and danced away and basically just had a great time.excellent spot for watchin all the people walking up and down.then after midnight just went to the usual bars we go to and carried on partying.

 

As for hotels.we did book before we arrived.we stayed in eastiny soi 7.no gala dinner or any extras like that.room prices had gone up by maybe 400 baht a night from when we've previously stayed there.but in my eyes 400 baht extra a night over this busy period is not too bad.considering this new year is being spent in las Vegas and the hotels prices have trebled.

 

I've spent new year in pattaya.samui and Phuket and they were all differant but all brilliant nights.

I have spent the last 7 NYEs here and I would not consider anywhere else. Complete insanity. Fireworks everywhere interspersed with laughing beautiful Thai girls. Do I need a 5 star dinner? No. In front of Royal Garden is perfect followed by Walking St. after midnight.
