Vancouver Olympics

Recommended Posts

Well the Olympics ended with a thrilling victory in ice hockey for Canada vs the United States. Sidney Crosby, normally better known for his crybaby antics than for his (excellent) skills on ice, scored the final goal to win the gold medal game in overtime, in a real nail-biter.

It was a great year for the United States, which hauled in almost 40 medals, but Canada won 14 gold medals, way more than anyone else, which proves there's got to be some good from living in a frozen wasteland.

Another great story was South Korea, which punched way above its weight, bringing home more medals than China, Japan, Sweden or France, and more gold medals than even Austria and Russia.

Which leaves only one question:

Curling WTF??

LDK, how could you forget Australia's TWO gold medals! :clueless

Congrats to the Canucks but if I see another Canadian flag, maple leaf, face paint ...

Yeah, yeah we know who was hosting the Olympics! :beer

See ya soon for a few Molsons! :D

It was a good game! I confess that I was a little sad to the USA lose, but those things happen. Congrats to the boys from the frozen north, they got the gold!

Curling rocks!

All kidding aside, curling must be the one Olympic sport where just about everyone can participate. No need to be young, muscular or in tip top shape. Just push a brick or learn how to sweep. :beer

Once they got the torch working, great Games. But what was with that artificial snow? I thought Canada had lots. And I did think it was a bit over the top to have weight divisions in the baby seal-bashing event. I mean, who else was going to get the nine golds there, eh? But the other 5 golds were well earned.

Barbara Ann Scott is still about 4-foot-8. Good to see her, even off her skates.

It was a great Olympics, but have to say I am kinda glad it is over, I live 1 block from Robson and Grainville and it has been crazy!! Only got 4 days for my liver to heal and then off on Friday to Patts for a well deserved rest.

I am Very Proud to Be A Canadian. I think we did Fantastic. Especially considering we only have the population of one tenth of the U.S. of A. Wishing All Canadian Olympians are best wishes and thank them for making us proud.

Joe, the US team was disqualified from the seal clubbing event because they didn't wait for the tears to well up in the seals' eyes before they clubbed them to death. :banghead Some people say the event is cruel, but it's not as cruel as making people sit through nine ends of curling.

Gman, if you're looking to give your liver a break, Pattaya is the wrong place for you. :allright

I know exactly what you mean. I work at that location. Pacific Centre Shopping Centre. Ground Zero for all the antics.

Now I see why Britain was so bitter when they condemned the olympics in the news. I'd be bitter too if we sucked as bad as they did.

Even though they only got one medal, at least it was gold! :clueless

To be fair though, MGOW, Britain isn't a northern country.

:beer Oh, wait a minute... :P

I was rooting for the USA team, but not unhappy about Canada winning the gold. That was an incredible championship game, and USA goalie Ryan Miller was a deserving MVP, even in a losing cause.

"Sid The Kid", a whiner? Sid is awesome, and the Pens are gonna take home the Cup again this year.

Good job Canada!. The gold medal hockey game was a good one for sure. Both teams played their best and that is all you can ask. Over all I was impressed with the level of skill and daring in the games. Seems each time things get higher, faster and more risky.

As far as curling. I have to admit I found myself watching it for more than a few minutes. Something very zen about it.

over the years I have had a chance to spend a fair amount of time in Vancouver, truly a world class city. My only concern is that after this it might get overwhelmed with tourists ect and become a bit jaded.

I think it is going to be very interesting to compare the Russian games to these. I think it is going to be apples and oranges. It will be hard to beat the openness and downright friendliness and civility of Canada compared to the arrogant and ill mannered Russians. Just my opinion of course

Dungie, I'll be in touch shortly. Of course I'll be drinking Blanche de Chambly, the excellent wheat beer brewed by Unibroue in Quebec. I was absolutely stunned to see it on stock in Shinjuku, you can scarcely get your hands on it in Canada.

Just found out while looking for the above image that Unibroue is now owned by Sapporo, which also owns the pub in Shinjuku. So that explains that.

Let Canada have hockey. If they beat us in obesity, then I’ll start to worry.

I only watched the Curling for the hot chicks.

Did anyone else notice the fact that for the most part, out of all the olympic sports that had teams - curling seemed to have more that its fair share of nice looking women

They should play in tiny lycra shorts and tank tops, like the beach volleyball team does.

That would be great, especially when they cast the rock and do that long sliding stretch they do. Plus those same tank tops would need to have cut open tops for the same leaning over position.

Although I guess that wouldn't be appropriate for a winter style outfit. With those tops and the cold we'd get lots of hard nipple shots. It's a shame they don't. Probably get a lot more endorsment deals.
