Ah, The Stanley Cup Play-Offs

Recommended Posts

The quest for Lord Stanley's Cup has begun, and my Pittsburgh Penguins, defending Stanley Cup Champs, have evened their series with the Ottawa Senators.

Check out this hit. :allright Luckily Jordan Leopold was able to skate away.

Let's get some Hockey Talk going. Who's gonna win it all this year? You know who I'm rooting for. :D

Good one last night between the Canucks and Kings. Kings didn't quit and pulled out a victory. They are better than I thought.

Habs had the Caps by the nutz most of the game then they traded the lead back and forth. Caps bagged the win 31 secs. into OT. Too bad the Habs could have gone home up two-zip.

Detroit is lurking.

Which Pubs/bars play the games?

A bar has to have one of the True Vision packages (Platinum & Silver?) that carry the All Sports Network (ACN). I think it's channel 108. I know Tequilia Reef has it.

Canucks sucked last night. Coyotes hanging tough, Habs pretty well gone now. Sabres-Broons, who cares? Neither will go far. Pens looking good, Caps too. Devils-Flyers, no cup winner there. Sharks may get by Avs but will choke next round. Hawks should dispatch the Predos.

Games are on every night now in Canada.

I watched an NHL playoff game tonight, and I couldn't help thinking it reminded me a lot of football (soccer).

Because of the hits? Or because it ended in a tie?

Make the field smaller, put 'em on ice and give them sticks. It's the same basic game, except faster paced and more action.

Sharks in 6. beer

Sharks are not choking but they can NOT score, and will need a lot of luck to win in 7, let alone 6. They are way better than the Avs, but Anderson is sensational - he kicked out 51 the other night while the alleged "goalie" Nabakov just stood there while a ricky-ticky 17th deflected shot of the game that I could have stopped won it for the Avs. The Sharks are throwing everything but the kitchen sink and simply can't put it in the net.

They're shouting "Hail Satan!" in Boston today. :D Miroslav Satan snuck one past the Sabre's Ryan Miller for the game-winner in double OT, and now the Bruins are up 3-1 in the series. Note to soccer fans: the game was tied 2-2, but they kept playing until someone won. :D

I was drinking in a bar in Ban Phe last night and got to watch my Pens beat up on the Senators 7-4, including 2 goals for "Sid The Kid". One more victory and the Pens will be moving on to the second round. :beer

My nomination: Third period of the LA-Vancouver game this morning was best period of the season.

DAHM but playoff hockey is wonderful.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Evgeni Nabokov stopped 28 shots to record his seventh career playoff shutout, Logan Couture scored twice and the San Jose Sharks beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-0 Thursday to take a 3-2 edge in their series.

Colorado goalie Craig Anderson stopped 30 on 34 shots before being replaced by Peter Budaj.

So there is not a single bar in town that will record the games and play them back at a decent beer drinking time??? :D

What's a decent beer drinking hour?

ASN replays the games at various times. They had a hockey double-header on Wednesday night, 6:30 - 10 PM. That's pretty good beer drinking time in my book. :D They were games from the previous day, but it's better than nothing.

Just walk into a bar and ask if they have channel 108.

I'll tell you a good place to try - Amazing Paradise on Soi 7. They have a great TV set-up, and I'll bet they have ASN.

You're impressed by 28 saves? You should be impressed by the Sharks' defence that only allowed 28 shots.

Terrific game for Sharks fans. No contest. Anderson had nothing to do with it, it was San Jose all the way, FINALLY breaking through. As I said, they had totally dominated the first four games and lost two and just barely won the other two, and they could have lost those and been out 4-0, it was that touch-and-go. On Friday morning, the dominance finally paid off. They were smooth, fully confident and it showed.

San Jose are the only Western team that really impresses me this year, but they came within a whisker of losing in the first round -- and they still have to try to win Game 6 IN Denver on Sunday. One game doesn't guarantee anything, but this could have been the game that turned it around and put them in the finals. We shall see, but Game 5 was All Sharks All The Time.

Most competitive series, though, I have to say LA and Vancouver. Vic's Penguins going down in Overtime 3 was fun, but you never got or get the feeling that Ottawa is actually challenging.

If anyone asks - YES!!! If you know someone who will let you leech his/her US TV broadcasts, get a Slingbox!!

No fun for me. It's tough when you play for over 4 hours and get an "L", AT HOME!!!! 2guns

The Pens just gave the momentum back to the Senators. I hope they can steal a win in game 6 in OOO-tawa, but I'm not betting on it. Why am I thinking this might go 7?

Sharks, Penguins through. The Sharks looked really awesome for the sixth game in a row. The Penguins definitely did not. Ottawa really brought it, but the Penguins did not look really confident, even though they won.

I have a feeling that the western final, Sharks vs Detroit???? will settle the Cup this year.

Well, they were down 3-0 in the second period, on the road, in a very tough arena, and scored 4 unanswered goals, none of them from their stars Crosby or Malkin, to pull out a win in OT. That's what championship teams do. :D

Bring on the Bruins (or maybe the Sabres).
