What is your favorite non-native language word?

Recommended Posts

Mine is "poofter" and phrase is "workman's entrance".These are both British words/phrases,not English,so they qualify.

The only guidelines are that Americans are not allowed to add a "u" too any word to qualify.Likewise,Brits are not allowed to delete a "ewe" to qualify. :wanker

Have at it............

I'm starting to think that calling someone a "cunt" is natural.

I haven't gotten past calling someone "mate".

Another is "what are you on about?"...sounds English to me.

And, lastly, I've expanded my understanding of the word "piss" to include being drunk and fucking with someone's head.

I always remember how the desk clerk at a U.K. hotel almost gave a U.S. matron a heart attack when he told her that someone would be round to knock her up at 8.00 a.m. the next morning.

It may just be an urban myth, but supposedly one village in the U.K. has an annual cock-blowing contest in which roosters are chased into cages using fireplace bellows. The cock-sucking contest was banned because vacuum cleaners injured the roosters.

Evil

That's generally good ,but 'mate' as a rule means you can't remember the cunts name. :wanker

Just be careful who you call a "cunt" remember cunts are useful so you don't want to waste it on someone who's really a "prick". :devil

'Doolally' The word is usually accompanied by pointing with your index finger to your temple and making a circular motion. The rolling of your eyes is optional.

The place called 'Doolally'.....is in India. There was a hospital there for shell-shocked British troops.

Before I discovered it's origin I used the word a lot. To me it's just so descriptive of 'craziness.'

Now I use another word.....

You definitely going to hear that a lot in australia and from australians who travel.

Oh, I hear it all the time. I just can't bring myself to include it in my usage.

It's probably the most useful term of address in the language, since it can be used for complete strangers or for bosom buddies. And, yes, it's great when you can't remember someone's name.

Another favorite of mine is Brits using pressurized instead of pressured.
Both used with different meaning for Brits actually.

We would never say a tyre is pressured.....but a person can be.

Ok, here's one I noticed last night that could get someone confused.

When an American says "fanny" with regard to a girl, he is referring to her buttocks.

Apparently, the English use "fanny" to refer to the vagina (cunt has too many meanings to use in this case).

So, regarding sexual activities, if an Englishman were to ask an American if he could shag her fanny, she might not be "that kind of girl".

I know, this isn't one of those favorite words....maybe we should have another thread for words like "fag" and "fanny" that are miles apart in meaning.

A 'fanny' and a 'c**t' are not miles apart.............the taste, for the careless is though!!!

My fav' description for what you yanks call a 'fanny' is, in the Queen's English, a 'tea towel holder'

But, I prefer the American tribute............The, 'John Wayne saddlebags' for a c**t.....Much better than the, 'old beef curtains' at any rate.

For a black girl, we English, (a certain class anyway) would say.....'It was like a black leather sofa with red scatter cushions'

After I wrote that, I wondered if some careful, anal-retentive reader would comment. :thumbup

Okay, "miles apart in meaning".
