Visa renewal

Recommended Posts

Hi,

You can't renew a Visa...

but if you need to renew your 1 year extension of stay, it's still 1,900 baht.

Details rules or here: (see 2.22) : http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/doc/t...777-2551_en.pdf

In my experience the cost of obtaining an extension of stay based on marriage is determined by the Immigration Officers assessment of your ability to pay in my case 15,000thb advised to me by telephone 10 minutes after arriving home after 2 days of B.S. at immigration. So I just went to Penang.

Judging by the number of companies openly advertising 'retirement visas' for 20,000thb + it would seem that immigration is again generally making its own rules, as the correct fee for an extension of stay is 1990thb..

Hi,

No such thing as a retirement visa, so imm. say. You can get a "O" visa, outside of LOS, and get a extension of 12 months in LOS, due to retirement and meeting the requirements. With this you must have a income, pensions etc., of over 800,000B p.a. wither married to a Thai national or not. Or money in a Thai bank at their low interest rates. Or a marriage visa which require you to have, in my case, pensions of 40,000B a month. myself I got a marriage visa, this entailed.

Letter from Embassy showing my pensions, total p.a..

Passport with a "O" visa.

House book

Marriage cert., has to be in Thai. or English. Otherwise a translation is required.

Photos of self and wife. Outside front of house, in living room and bedroom.

Location of house. I used google earth for this and it was accepted.

Wives ID card.

Witness who has known you for at least 12 months.

The fee 1,900B.

You have to present the originals plus two copies.

They then give me a 30day stamp on my passport and told me to go to see them then.

Did this and asked them why wait 30days. They said it has to be approved in BKK.

Total time taken to achieve this approx two and a half hours.

I decided to go this way, as with the weak pound, my pensions only came to about 750,000B. A bit more work for this visa, but painless if you have the right things.

This immigration ruling has always baffled me.

A single person over the age of 50 to obtain a retirement extention requires to show evidence of 800.000 baht which can be done a couple of ways.

A married person with a wife and maybe a couple of children has to show proof of income totaling 400.000 baht.

Why is it considered cheaper to have a Thai wife and two children than it is to be single in LOS?

Are those figures the wrong way round?

I've lived here for 14 years and never been able to work that one out.

The OP specifically wrote retirement. In either case, the actual fee for a one-year extension of stay is 1,900 baht, no difference on the reason.

Sorry to hear you got run around. It happens.

In getting a reduction from 800,000 to 400,000 do you have to have a thai wife (i.e. get married) or can you claim you are supporting the thai lady (but not married) ?

There's a visa extension class called "spouse" or in some places it's still "Thai wife". You must be completely, legally married. You get no credit for support, or for common law. You show the marriage certificate from the amphur office, or you don't. Respectively, you qualify for a spouse status, or you don't.

1. Your passport

2. Passport photo

3. Copies of your info page of your passport, copies of your last arrival stamp page and copy of your departure card. If they want more you can get copies made outside of the immigration office

4. 1900 baht

5. Thai bankbook along with letter from the bank dated that day verifying your account. (cost about 150 baht)

6. If your using income for all or part of the financial requirement then you'll also need the letter from your Embassy. (cost at US Embassy $50)

7. Proof of where your living. Rental agreement, ownership book or recent bills from your electric company, cable TV or internet provider which shows your name and address.

this is what they require at Pattaya Immigration Office. I've been told by friends that other immigration offices may slightly vary.

For renewal, item 7 was not asked of me.

I think it is known as Chonburi Immigration Office these days, located in Jomtiem..

I think that not only do some of the requirements vary from each office but also who's manning the station on a particular day. They asked me this past August.

Must be pressure from the Dr's union. Since tourist numbers are down they want some additional revenue. When I first got my retirement stamp in 2006 one needed the letter from the Dr. Cost me around 200 baht I believe to have my blood pressure taken and Dr Belem filling out the form letter. That requirement was discontinued shortly thereafter.

Hi,

chris2004, A retirement visa, whither married to a Thai or not requires you to have a income of 800,000B a year. Not as Nam-Tip says. It is only when you come to a marrage visa that this changes. 40,000B per month required. Last month my income p.a. was 750,000B, married to a Thai. lady, so i was refused a retirement visa even though I was married to a Thai. lady. Got a marrage visa 40,000B a month was the requirement along with other requirements.

Please if you are unsure about this ask at imm. they are very helpful and you will know what THEY want.

Actually, nam-thip is correct.

There is nothing that says you have to have an income of 800,000b/year.

You merely have to show that you have an account balance in a Thai bank of 800,000b or more.

They don't care if it is from income or any other source. They just check that is is there.

For the last few years, they have also wanted to check that the bank balance is 800K or more, for at least 3 months prior to extension renewal.

And, as joek said, you can use monthly income for both the retirement and marriage visas or extensions.

Either or.

What MM says... plus, for a fee of 20k someone who does not have the 800k in the bank, can get the retirement extension.

Shh, nod nod wink wink say no more ...

The advantages with a support visa is less money required and age doesn't matter. Apparently the government believes that two (or more) can live cheaper than one. (Maybe that's true). It is for me.

I am legally married but keep 800,000 baht in a Thai bank and get retirement extensions. The support visa requires a lot of hassle and since I am well over fifty, I prefer the much more simple option.

The cost of loving comes WAY down. Not only that but I stay home much more. I go out drinking a couple times a week and usually go home by 7:00 PM. My wife is not the jealous type so I am free to take road trips by myself to wherever. I only do that maybe every three months. It's not hard to spend several thousand baht on a night out when you are single. My average bar bill for my couple times a week is less than 300 baht unless I want a quickie. That quickie will cost me maybe 500 baht if I feel generous.

Not only the entertainment costs but also costs for lodging, eating and laundry will be less as you've got the wife/TGF doing the cleaning, laundry and food preparation instead of eating out, sending your laundry out and paying for housekeeping.
