Get ahold of Rob Bonser through the Secrets board.

1. Pre-existing conditions not covered.

2. Cap on all new conditions which varies by how much you pay for insurance.

3. Must be insured before age 61.

Talk to Rob. He is a BUPA (and other) agent in Pattaya. He is honest and a source of reliable information on all things expat medical.

I would dig out his contact info and pm you but I'm in a bit of a move now and everything is packed away.

The guys on the Secrets board can direct you.

There are plenty of offers. Go to AA Brokers by Big C Sukhumvit I've heard good stories from them.

It's something I need to get sorted although we get some cover as my wife works for Pattaya Memorial.

Hi bratpack,

Don't understand you here. AA is only a Agent, not an Insurance Company.

The price increase certainly was from your initial Insurance, not from AA.

And AA can provide you Axa insurance too.

I know: I have an Axa Health Insurance that I took at AA :clueless

I also have Condo and Motorbike at AA but don't know how good they are

because I never claimed for anything yet...

AA are a broker, not an insurance company. So the price increase was not down to them...

That isn't to say AXA isn't good, it is just that I would expect AA to offer you AXA.

I believe my first car insurance was AXA through AA. On renewal the increase was quite substantial so I asked AA for altenate companies and they offered another which was much less.

Difficult question to answer, as its like saying how much is a car ? without saying if you are looking for a Proton or a BMW.

At your relatively young age you would not have an age restrictions, and premiums would be at the lower end, starting at around US$300 for a very basic policy. This would either have a lower maximum payout (like the Expats policy) or a larger Excess (deductable). I would budget US$1000 for decent cover with a resonable excess.

You also missed the quip. I think. Before he was bragging and posting on living in LOS for 240K baht a year and that he transferred about 1 million baht to his bank account in LOS 2 months prior to his medical problem. Fortunate for him. Not paying his own bills. :clap1

To be fair, it wasn't Soi 7 who passed round the begging bowl, but his employers. I got the impression that his bills had been covered/guaranteed by his employers and the whip round was, in effect, to make sure they didn't lose out. Nice to see that he has got his social security payments in place now though.

So your saying and I could read it wrong. His employers were suppose to pay his hospital bills. They didn't want to pay it. So the donation fund developed. As far as social security. I thought you had to be 62 to collect.

He may have been eligible to receive SSI disablility payments. If you can get SSI to grant that to you it can be taken before age 62. Given Soi7's health problems over the years, it is very conceivable that he is drawing such payments.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR SSI ?

Anyone who is:

aged (age 65 or older);

blind; or

disabled.

And, who: has limited income; and has limited resources; and is a U.S. citizen or national, or in one of certain categories of aliens; and In general, an alien who is subject to an active warrant for deportation or removal does not meet the citizenship/alien requirement. is a resident of one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands; and is not absent from the country for a full calendar month or more than 30 consecutive days; and applies for any other cash benefits or payments for which he or she may be eligible, (for example, pensions, Social Security benefits); and gives SSA permission to contact any financial institution and request any financial records that the financial institution may have about you; and files an application; and meets certain other requirements.

I don't think Soi 7 qualifies.

I was referring to the Thai Social Security Act (1990). Generally speaking, if he's on a work permit, he qualifies unless employed by one of the exempted employer categories and even then his employers are required to provide an alternative. I believe he's recently had his hips done on the cheap by flashing his Thai Social Security Card.

If that's the case they shouldn't of had the begging bowl out. Since he was on a work permit and on the Thai Social Security system. I wonder how many people that donated money on the begging bowl back then. Have second thoughts on it today or not donated at all when it came up.
