RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY

Recommended Posts

I just woke up to noise out on Soi LK Metro and went to investigate from my balcony and this is what I found. It is 3 am and has been raining since about 1030 last night. Here are some pics of the soi in front of the Drunken Duck Bar and Guesthouse where I am staying. I watched several motorcycles and pedestrians make their way through this while I was watching. Hopefully it will be drained by the time I go out for breakfast in a few hours.....LOL

Luck you Reggie, you just saw it from your hotel. Frosty and I were on the bar crawl and had ridden our motorbikes. When it started raining, we thought we would wait it out, in the company of some TG's. About 3 am we decided that the rain wasn't going to stop, so we hit 7-11 and bought a couple of cheap rain coats and headed home. We got on Sukhumvit and before we hit Central Road, the road was flooded and closed. We then had to turn around and drive back to North Road, on the wrong side of the road. Hair raising to say the least. And I don't even have any. Then we turned down 3rd Road, before we hit Central Road, the road was closed. There was water coming up from the drains like a water fountain. Back to North Road, to beach road. Beach road was like a river, it should have been closed. Baht bus's stalled in the middle of the road, water over the curbs. Frosty kept going, so I followed, at one point it got so deep that we got on the sidewalk and road down it. Once we got to a point to where the sidewalk was blocked with tables and chairs, we got back on the road. Big mistake for me, I sucked water into the carb of my Yamaha and it stalled. I pushed it into a hotel, and jumped on the back of frosty's Honda. Luckily he has fuel injection, however, his filter got wet and the bike was running bad. I felt like I was skiing, with my feet pushing through the water as Frosty kept going like a bat out of hell. Guess he didn't want to lose momentum. I made it home OK, hopefully Frosty did too. Guess I should call to make sure.

This morning I took my big Vmax to go get the motorbike. It still wouldn't start. The GF and I pushed it about two miles to a motorbike repair place. The motor and transmission was full of water, and has to have the oil changed. Of course I killed the battery trying to start it, and the carb filter is nothing but a blob of wet paper. Maybe I will get it back tonight. The repair place was full of motorbikes with the same problem. No telling what it's gonna cost.

We were wondering why you hadn't made it on the bar crawl. Maybe it was a good decision not to go. I'm going to blame the whole ordeal on Adam, I tried to get him to take the bar crawl to Soi 17, which had no flooding at all. Lesson learned anyway. Next time I'll park and take a baht bus, let him put up with the problems.

its looks around a foot deep, it may be a strange question, but in floods like this and going under the buildings footings, has anyone ever seen, snakes, scorpions, spiders swimming or floating ?

Tropical rain in patts is great to see, but was there once a story of someone killed by high voltage power lines and another of manhole cover missing and someone falling through hole etc ?

does it bring up raw sewage ? and all on the streets villa walks barefooted :chogdee ;)

A lot of people living a miserable existence down by the railway line bypass. Why anybody would build homes 2/3 foot below the level of the road one has to wonder. Probably quite a shock to be awoken with water lapping about your feet.

But ever inventive, the nets were out looking for fish in the flooded area between the 2 lanes.

That really sucks Randy and Frosty. I had planned on going on the crawl, but got mao the night before and made a commitment I could not get out of. Such is the way of life. Worked out good for me...........LOL hope your bike doesn't cost too much to get fixed. Bad luck all the way around.
