I flew with Jet Airways from Heathrow 2 years ago,the flights themselves were good, planes were nice,no complaints at all on that side of it but Mumbai Airport was a f**king joke of a place,I honestly can't say anything good about the place at all and I don't think I've heard anyone say anything good about it since,it was a total shithole and due to that I'd never fly with Jet again unless it was dirt cheap.

Can you elaborate more on how mumbai was so bad because I am flying with Jet in December and I have to transfer there but I will only be there for 1hr 30 min (Hopefully)

I'll try my best.First of all passport control was manned by a couple of numpties who were basically morons and that was after we had to queue for ages to go through the 1 working metal detector.

At the time I went through Mumbai they were doing a lot of building work and there were very few directions or TV monitors telling passengers where their gate was for the departing flight, there was no designated smoking area and a small cafe I found was the only place to have a quick cigarette before boarding.

I've since read on a couple of other forums that the passport/customs morons have now started confiscating peoples shopping bags with stuff bought from Boots and places like that at Heathrow.I'm sure you could argue with them but what chance would you stand ?

Like I've said my flight was 2 years ago so maybe it's not such a shithole now but I couldn't recommend passing through there to anyone unless I didn't like them.Bear in mind though that Jet Airways themselves were good in my opinion,it was Mumbai Airport that stopped me using them again.

Thanks for the heads up. As it is too late to change now I will just have to grin and bear it. Will put my experience of mumbai on here when I get back.

Same as I said the planes etc were no problem but Mumbai was a joke.It was 2 years ago so maybe it's improved since then ? Certainly couldn't have got any worse !

I'd say Jet slightly are slightly preferable to Kingfisher, the other operator through Mumbai to LOS from UK, mostly because of their inflight food (curry).

Only issue I had was they insisted on taking us down to the Baggage handlers area under the terminal to identify our bags.

Then the guy who took me down was pressuring me for a tip like he provided some kind of service.

As you wont have a Visa you will be ushered through Passport control into the check in area for your connecting flight so you jump the queue there.

Relax and have a beer in the departure lounge after that. it's not too bad in Mimbai clean and lots of cheap Indian food and beer yummy yum yum

57 pilots found drunk on duty in '09-10, 11 lost jobs

TNN | Mar 11, 2011, 04.14am IST

NEW DELHI: Air travellers would do well to say a little prayer before taking a flight. Pilots faking flying hours was bad enough, but now it turns out there's a reasonable chance of the pilot turning up drunk for duty. And getting away with it.

Between January 2009 and November 2010, as many as 57 drunk pilots were detected in random pre-flight medical tests – that is two tipsy pilots every month. Of these, only 11 lost their jobs for endangering passengers; the rest got away with mild punishments including being grounded for up to three months and a pay cut for some time.

The country's largest airline, Jet-JetLite, led the pack with as many as 23 drunk pilots, none of whom was dismissed, according to a detailed statement by aviation minister Vayalar Ravi in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The ranking of airlines according to number of pilots caught drunk, in fact, almost mirrored the market share hierarchy. Market leader Jet was followed by IndiGo (11), Kingfisher (8), SpiceJet (7) and Air India, including IA, AI, AI Express and Alliance Air, (6) and GoAir (2).

Jet, AI and GoAir did not terminate the service of any drunk pilot, according to the list given in Parliament though some kind of action was taken. IndiGo and SpiceJet sacked four pilots each, while Kingfisher sacked three. The rest got away with lesser punishment.

Given the weak and divergent action taken by airlines, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had late last year ruled that pilots would have to be compulsorily grounded for three months when caught the first time. If they reported drunk for duty a second time, they would lose the commercial flying licence forever. But, the seriousness of the DGCA in cracking down on drunken flying is not reflected by the carriers.

With the rule coming into effect, unsurprisingly, airlines reported that no pilots were found drunk in pre-flight medical tests conducted in the Yuletide month of December in 2010, when maximum such cases were detected in the past. The new rule had come into effect by then.

Before this much-required change in rules, it was up to airlines to ground pilots for whatever period they deemed fit as the matter didn't invite any regulatory action. No record was legally required to be kept of how many times the same pilot had reported drunk for duty.

What's the difference between 'Special Economy' & 'Economy' ...Apart from roughly £1000? (Jet Airways)

Special being the cheapest :allright

Probably more restrictions on usage and changes for the cheapest option. Best bet is to look at the airlines website.

Nothing specific on the website to differentiate between the two(that I can see) apart from price.

The dates I have looked at (late July ,mid August) are :£709 -Economy Special & £1711-Economy.

Baffling...

Had a look at the website and agree there is little clear information about the difference between the 2 fares. I would still go with the view that the cheaper ticket will have restrictions if you need to cancel or change dates.

There are some fare rules available if you go through the booking process but they are not the clearest I have ever seen.

I'll give you a tip.

Make sure you get off the plane as soon as possible and get to the front of the queue. It takes AGES to get through the security check. Only 2 Xray machines when I went last October. If you're at the back of the plane you might spend an hour of the 90 min stopover going through security.

The fuckers confiscated a bottle of aftershave I bought at LHR because it was more than 100ml. I blame the cunts at LHR duty free for selling it to me really.

It's easy to get lost in the airport too. Stick with the other passengers until you go through security.

The lounge itself is clean and modern. There is one place where you can have a smoke.

The Jet flights were ok, no complaints from me for GBP450 :beer

I went through there with Kingfisher six months ago. I found it to be completely the opposite to what people are saying here, I was ushered through all the checks and into the departure lounge in no time at all. Kingfisher were, I thought, excellent.

I hear ignorance (of amount of carryon liquids) is bliss. :thumbup Pass the buck.

In the duty free shop at LHR they scanned my boarding card and informed me that I had too much tobacco for Thailand yet they didn't tell me that the aftershave would not be allowed also.

The aftershave was sealed in one of those transparent vacuum pack bags.

Where am I going to get explosive liquid from to replace the aftershave when I'm already airside?

It's just a scam. The aftershave would probably cost them a couple of weeks wages.

I also had a big bottle of water which was opened but they didn't confiscate that at security.
