THAILAND v ENGLAND

Recommended Posts

This game in honour of the King (undoubtably fixed up by Bryan Robson), was announced subject to confirmation a while back. Prior to the Thai FIFA rep voting against us! It was pencilled in for early June, but i can't find any mention of it now on the more up to date sites. Anyone heard anything?

English failed in bid for 2018 World Cup in terms of a 'legacy'

05:55 AM Dec 13, 2010

LONDON - FIFA's American member Chuck Blazer has said he voted for Russia over England for the 2018 World Cup because it will open up new markets for football.

Blazer said England would have staged a "great World Cup" but that it would have contributed little to the game's development globally. He also insisted that he believes the 2018 decision had been a fair vote.

His final decision came down to the legacy of the World Cup - and he was influenced by the tournament's success in South Africa earlier this year.

"I voted for Russia," Blazer told Soccer America. "England clearly had a great bid. But in the end, I look at England and say, 'What more would we have when we're finished other than what I am certain would have been a great World Cup?'

"I believe that when we're finished in Russia, we'll have accomplished a lot of different things.

"We can open up a market that is important from a world perspective. Everyone came away saying, 'Wow, what a great World Cup in South Africa.'

"It was a hard process to get there, but nonetheless the event was very, very successful from a TV, marketing, worldwide perspective.

"And having done it there, it gave reason for everyone in the world to say, 'We can do it here.' No longer was it reserved for only for the big countries in Europe and the Americas."

The irony for Blazer was the same argument that did for England may have lost the American bid for 2022 to Qatar - but he insisted the Middle Eastern state will struggle to deal with the problem of 50°C temperatures in June and July.

"I still feel heat is an obstacle that they won't overcome in the time frame in which we hope it will," he added.

"Who knows? By then, we may be going around with air-conditioned suits."

Blazer acknowledged that the sums spent by Qatar on their bid - running into hundreds of millions of pounds - raised questions about the process. The Telegraph

Thailand Voted for Spain, so perhaps Thailand can play the world champions to honour the king

"Andy Anson, the chief executive of England's bid, has acknowledged for the first time that the Qatar-Spain pact was common knowledge among the bidding nations.

That the pact worked for Qatar but not for the Spanish is a bitter irony. Spain were undone by the very understanding that had been expected to deliver the 2018 tournament to their joint bid with Portugal.

In the end, other European voters rebelled against the pact, allowing the Russians to muscle in. England crashed out of the race for 2018 after the first round of FIFA executive committee polling, having won only two votes from 22 when five, at the very least, were expected.

Two voters targeted by England - Worawi Makudi, of Thailand, and Hany Abo Rida, of Egypt - opted for Spain as part of the pact.

At least two more - Michel Platini, of France, and Turkey's Senes Erzik - were expected to switch to England after an initial 'sympathy vote' for the joint bid of Holland and Belgium.

But they never got the chance and voting ended at round two with Russia over the line.

The Russians had already persuaded other targeted England votes - Marios Lefkaritis, of Cyprus, and Ivory Coast's Jacques Anouma - to vote for them.

Both those men were among five 'liars' who told England they would get their support then voted for somebody else.

It will be 27 degrees. Exactly.

.

Allegedly !

42c outside the stadia. I wonder how the ball will react to still, cool air ? :thumbup

If we strike oil in the Lake District, the World Surfing Finals will be held at Lake Windemere and Coniston. We will build a pair of wave machines to make it realistically possible. The surfers won't know any different- apart from the lack of salt in their eyes :clap1

Who needs the sea ?

You ain't whistlin', Dixie, you're clutching at straws. You figure the action of the ball should decide this stuff?

"The ball". If there is one thing that is not tradition, here you go. You should get me started on the ball. Different every four years, RADICALLY different from the one four years before. And not leather, not laced for one hell of a long time.

Answer: The ball will react any way the boffins who make it want it to act, no matter what the players or the fans say about it. During The England World Cup at Qatar, the ball will, however, act the same way for all players on both teams of each match.

January and February are in the middle of the football league season. No EPL From December ?

That's why we play the world cup in the Summer. It is the close season.

Sounds like bollocks to me.

What next ? Beach Volley ball in Alaska ? Perl diving championships in Sharm - El- Sheik ? Camel races at Royal Ascot.....

Yes you can have the world cup in Qatar, even if it means moving an entire continents football season to achieve it. :whistling:

What they said about hockey. But sure enough, they close down the pro leagues worldwide to play the Olympics. The sheeple have become conditioned to it. It's accepted. It seems to work.

Why all the anomosity towards change? Fear of the unknown? Who knows but Russia and Qatar may be the best world cup ever. We are already seeing Brazil trying to clean up their crime rate. And many others have mentioned how hosting the WC benefited S Africa , USA , Korea/Japan etc as well as the changes made for (before and after) world cups like the introduction of drinking water , goalkeeper's 6 sec rule , tackles from behind etc.

Many people were fearful of Euro96 being a hooligan fest but it turned out to be one of the best .... where football came home!

Give them a chance , England will get to host it sooner or later.
