Actors and Actresses

I thought I would change the pace a bit on the movie stuff. I will start this off by naming some stars of the silver screen (so to speak) and the roles that made them favorites of mine. They may have been in many films prior to the roles but these films and their parts in them made me a big fan of theirs:

Kevin Spacey "The Usual Suspects"

Morgan Freeman "The Shawshank Redemption"

Naomi Watts "Mulholland Drive"

Samuel L. Jackson "Pulp Fiction"

Gregory Peck "To Kill A Mockingbird"

That is some of many of mine. I hope you all will share some of yours also.

Wow, you guys hit many that I could have listed as well.

We could do a whole post on different movies and which character(s) resonated with you the most. When jacko mentioned Macy I was thinking Steve Buscemi and when he mentions Stormare I was thinking "Fargo".

All of you mentioned someone in a movie that made me a fan of theirs.

As for Stilley, I don't care if she ever acts again but I would love to rehearse with her, hehe!

I became of fan of Pearce in "LA Confidential" btw and Christian Bale opened my eyes in "The Machinist" - talk about method acting!

I see it is a list of mostly actors. Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra blew me away at the time it was released but I was not a huge fan of hers.

A few more actors:

William Holden and Sir Alec Guinness "The Bridge on the River Kwai"

Peter O"Toole "Lawrence of Arabia"

Ralph Fiennes "The English Patient"

Kevin Spacey "The Usual Suspects"

Tim Robbins The Shawshank Redemption.

Kevin Costner "Dances With Wolves"

John Travolta "Pulp Fiction"

Bruce Willis "The Last Boy Scout" (He has sure done some crap too, but also good in "Unbreakable" and "The Sixth Sense")

Michael Madsen "Kill Bill 2" again (Tarantino made everyone look good his best films)

Tommy Lee Jones "No Country for Old Men"

Randal Tex Cobb "Raising Arizona"

I was often surprised by some actors who I previously thought were lightweights, but under a good director shone...eg

John Goodman for example in The Big Lebowski and Raising Arizona.

Whoever that was in 'Legend' as The Lord of Darkness. (Tim Curry was the voice I believe).

Ron Perlman as "HellBoy" but also noticed him in "The Name of the Rose" as Salvatore.

Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Capote"

Jude Law in "Artificial Intelligence" (Although I loved Gattaca and him in eXistenZ)

Leads me to.....

Tom Hanks in "Road to Perdition"

Malcolm McDowell in "A Clockwork Orange"

Hellen Mirren in "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and her Lover"

Daniel Day Lewis in "The Last of the Mohicans" (great fight ).

Him again in "Gangs of New York"

Tim Roth in "Rob Roy" ( A true cad!)

Charles Bronson "Death Wish"

Clint Eastwood obviously great in the spaghetti westerns but I plump for "The Unforgiven (1992)" another lead

Gene Hackman "Mississippi Burning"

Margo Stilley and Paul Hogan where more of a joke, BUT Margos sex scenes were great and not over acted, maybe coz they were not fake ones?

Tom Cruise in "Risky Business."

Samuel L. Jackson "Pulp Fiction"

Al Pacino, "Scent of a Woman."

Marlon Brando, The Godfather"

Paul Newman, "Cool Hand Luke."

I'll think about this later.

Sigourney Weaver "Alien"

Gregory Peck "To Kill a Mocking Bird"

Woody Allen in "Annie Hall"

Although I saw it as an Apocalypse Now accolade......still a good man's film...

Kevin Dillon "Platoon"

Newman and Redford in the great film..."Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid"

Ewan McGregor in "Trainspotting"

Pacino as "Scarface"

All of them from MPFC in "The Life of Brian" just too funny.....

Big John Wayne in "True Grit" (need to see the new one)

I never thought he could act for toffee but Sly in Rocky (1-2,873)

George C Scott as "Patton"

It's normally about the film for me, but sometimes the right actor makes the film.

Apologies if I repeat the entries of others.

Robert DeNiro ... The Deer Hunter ... one of the top movies ever made...

When it first came out it was considered a great movie and won several Academy Awards. I bought the DVD a couple of years ago and as a Veteran who lived through that period I can say there are so many things wrong with that movie it is hard to understand what the public saw in it, other than it was one of the first Vietnam War films made and, perhaps, gave the American public something they needed at that time in U.S. history. That said, other actors on my list...

Christopher Walken, "The Deer Hunter." He 'stole the show' from DeNiro and walked away with the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

John Cazale, "The Deer Hunter."

Jack Lemmon, "Irma la Douce."

Shirley MacLaine, "Irma la Douce."

Lou Jacobi, "Irma la Douce."

Audrey Hepburn, "My Fair Lady."

Rex Harrison, "My Fair Lady."

Stanley Holloway, "My Fair Lady."

George C. Scott, "Patton."

Robin Williams (as an actor), "Good Morning, Vietnam." Another movie with some serious flaws, but yet, overall, a good film.

William Holden, "The World of Suzie Wong."

Sir Alec Guinness, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" (Television).

Peter Sellers, "A Shot in the Dark."

David Niven, "The Pink Panther."

Robert Duvall, "The Great Santini."

Denholm Elliott, "Saint Jack."

It would be a long list.... enough for now.

:)
