I used to recommend TT exchange as the best place to change money but now I have found a better place for at least this weekend.

TT is far better than the place across from Champagne that everyone raves about.

The best place this weekend is the exchange that is halfway between Tops and the centera hotel on Pattaya klang.

Rates today are.

Euro = 41.90

GBP = 48.45

USD = 30.20

TT is offering 41.60 for the Euro so the extra 30 baht I get on 100 euro will buy me a meal in tukcom/tops/the market or a thai whiskey in nanaplaza and change to go to the toilet.

I think I shall spend my extra 30 baht on a dish of somtam on the beach.

Kaisokorn are 41.41

SCB are about 41.22

Good thread I think it should be a regular one say on a two three day basis help those of us visiting. Yes I know there are exchange rate sites etc but it appears to always differ on the street in Pattaya. Thanks

Keep this thread going please.

I usually used the TT exchange place around the corner of Pattaya Tai & 2nd road about 100M up the road (there's another TT on the other side of 2nd road further up.

I was wandering back one time from TT (2nd road) feeling smug at getting a better rate than Kasikorn when I turned the corner onto Pattaya Tai heading for Tukcom when I noticed a little gold/gem place with a little cardboard sign advertising an even better exchange rate !

You can easily walk past without noticing as the sign is quite small. For larger amounts you can haggle for a better rate. Hope this helps a little.

There is a place on Soi Bukao just past 18 Coins on the left that does good rates for bank notes, its set back off the road a little travel agents they have the rate up in the window ..

Posted

For the past 8 years Ive always used my Nationwide Flex acc debit card since it was fee free.

But since they have now started charging I will just take cash and change it in a currency exchange.

What type of commission or charge do the places above charge ?

there is no commission charged for cash at money exchange booths,

If it states that they are offering GBP - 48.30 then you will get 4830 baht for a 100 pound note.

There is I think a 30 baht commission charged on Travellers cheques but you do get a higher exchange rate.

The worst places to exchange money are your hotel lobby or in a department store.

when you arrive at airport you should only exchange enough money to get to Pattaya as the rate at the airport is significantly less than will you will get at the better exchange booths in Pattaya.

Of all the main banks siam commercial bank(purple logo) give consistently the worst exchange rates.

For a Newbie that may not be able to locate one of the better exchange booths I recommend TT exchange which has a branch on beach road about 80 metres from the entrance to walking street

Some people agree with this, some do not, I belong to the latter group as everytime I change money on arrival, at a Thai bank booth whether it be the Airport or Pattaya the rate is STANDARD! The only time you might get a very slight advantage is at the non bank outlets, but again unless your changing a very large amount the difference is of no consequence! :thumbup

Just change the KRW in the "from" string to whatever currency you want a rate on and press the "Get Rates" button

As is says....for ATM rates select the TT in the "currency type" string

bad advice ...... on the day I arrived 40.70 was the rate at the airport and 42.05 was available at the booths in Pattaya, some people may not wish to get a better rate and enjoy giving away their money at the airport :nod

Well, rather than being pedantic, more an attempt at humour...

I think you will get SFA fora £100 note. :grin

Not true, bank to bank I have always found Pattaya rates to be different from Bangkok or airport rates... I wouldn't know if things have changed after December 2010...

I did not realise it but it seems that only Northern Ireland and Scotland have £100 bank notes.

I have changed a few €200 notes at the Pattaya exchange booths but I have not taken a chance trying to change a €500 note.

€100 notes are easy to change.

If this Japanese Nuclear-Radiation spreads across Thailand, China and the rest of Asia then Asian exchange rates could plunge.

Depends on who 'our' is! :D Thai baht's strength also has a lot to do with it. I'm lucky my currency is pretty strong

Anyway , I was walking down Soi 22/2 last nite when i saw a booth changing 1USD to 39.99B! Then I pinched myself to see if I was dreaming and I woke up! :hairout

Happy April fools day :grin
