Cash Machine at Airport ?

Recommended Posts

It there a cash machine at Bangkok Airport that takes visa / cirrus / maestro cards ? If so where is it located ? I need some money as soon as I get to LOS but I'm getting robbed by the banks here if I get my cash from them . They are giving me a rate of 62 baht / £ but I will get a rate of 68 baht / £ from a Thai cash m/c .

Cheers ,

             Derek

There's a cash machine in the baggage area on the same wall as customs that will take bills that are in good shape. Excellent rate, I got 43 to 1 USD.  7 days:):)

For those of you interested, I used my Switch card twice on a recent trip, and Ive just got the statement.

1st : ATM Machine at the airport (Radanasin Bank)

20000 baht worked out £308.17 + £4.62 charge. That was on the 27th November

2nd : ATM Machine Siam Commercial Bank at the start of Walking Street, 20000 baht worked out £306.91 + £4.60 charge. That was on the 3rd December.

Hope that gives you an idea of what it costs to use ATM Machines.

Regards. C.

No, you are wrong.... that is what it costs to use a switchcard abroad in ATMs.

The NatWest switchcard charges 2.25% for foreign cash machine withdrawals plus commision on the exchange rate which may be hidden in the exchange rate shown.

Your exchange rates were 64.9 and 65.17 baht to £1. The day previous to the 27th November I got 68.34 using a Nationwide debit card with no charges!!

Including your charges, your exchange rate works out to 63.94 and 64.20 which is a 6 to 6.5% difference to the rate I got.

You got caned! Change your bank mate! There have been quite alot of posts recently about the Nationwide debit card. Do a search and read up on it.

Regards,

I appreciate your comments about the difference between charges using different cards in Thailand.

If I were to be travelling on a regular basis, and really worried about a few quid, (which on my salary I'm certainly not) I would change my bank.

However, my bank provides me with a good service here in the UK and I really can't be bothered to change to the Nationwide.

My post was to give a guide and general information only.

Hey Captain C I can make it easier for youthen. NExt time you come over I will change your sterling for you at only 5% worse rate than Nationwide. You pay into my account in the Channel Islands and I give you the TBahts 4 TB per pund less than NAtionwide  ;D ;D ;D

No I am happy with Barclays but also got caned on my ATM wiothdrawals next time if I was just being a tourist there I would use NAtionwide for sure.  Wont apply next time though as I will be living there permanent and having a Thai Bank account (and a Sterling one in the Channel Isles)

I now make sure that I have around 5000 baht on me when I arrive at the airport when heading home.  I give them their 500 baht, thus leaving me around 4500 when I arrive on my next trip and one less thing to worry about.
