Personal experience I take it. … Just don't recall the Lido Beach being mentioned much in the past. B) Never heard of the Nah tho' :P

Well I used to use the place a long time ago...it was okay. No pool, but there were some larger rooms that I always managed to get. Right next to the beach and close to Walking St. Nothing fancy the for me in those days.

I stayed at the RG my first trip in 2003. I really enjoyed the quiet resort feel of it back then. I really enjoyed having breakfast and sometimes lunch by the pool. It was September and the thunder was loud and the staff would scamper to pull the furniture out of the rain and 30 minutes later to put it back in place.

It was very stylish but it did have a few faults. Finding your way back to it in the heat was hell...ended up on Budda Hill once. No one had explained to me how the baht buses worked at the bottom of the hill. The mattress felt more like bed springs and the couch was only suitable for sitting on. Not sure why I tried to sleep on it one night.

There wasn't anything around it then either. That is getting better. I'm hoping to stay there again in the future.

They used to have two single beds pushed together with one sheet over the two mattresses. Midway through a session the beds would seperate as if Moses had just divided the Red Sea.

I have stayed there for the past 8 years or so and have never seen singles pushed together.

The bedrooms in the main block I thought all were the same and had double beds. In fact there was a little cabinet on each side and I am unsure how they would get single beds in. They must have found some old beds in the store and made up a special cheap place in a closet for Pappy! Edited by jacko

You're unsure how they'd get single beds in the rooms yet they have double beds in there? What year did you first stay there? It's a fact that they used to push two singles together to make a double.

I didn't think there was space to have 2 single beds with a gap between as the side cabinets were in the way. I may recall 2 single beds one time but there was a double mattress used...... I think I first went there in 2001. 9500 baht/week. Edited by jacko

Try reading the thread.Nobody said there was a gap between the two singles. They pushed two singles together and threw a double sheet over to make it appear as a double sized bed.

If there was no gap why did they need to push them together?

Have another coffee and then read the thread again.

Nah, I shall go and have a swim.

Anyhow, if it is something they 'used to do' and haven't done for many years, no reason to bring it up is there.

My feedback from someone with cred, who stayed Jan 2012, was very complimentary.

A year ago?Why bring it up?Edit: What 'cred' does he have? What has being complimentary got to do with the price of bacon?Come to think of it, what 'cred' do you have? How many hotels in Pattaya have you stayed in recently? The past decade?I'm an ex customer of Residence Garden and I gave my opinion of when I stayed there, good and bad. Do you want to only hear the good points and never the bad?

He has more than you, for example. As a recent guest, someone I know well, and who is capable of saying something positive. I have stayed in a Pattaya hotel more recently than you, and was in one only a few days ago.

You stayed there once in 2003.......checking out because it was too expensive for you.

I first stayed there back in 1999 and there were not two single beds pushed together then. Ib the owner has always had double beds in the hotel as he has always "promoted" a healthy nightime lifestyle in the bedroom. I have stayed there over 20 times in the years since and never seen/noticed single beds pushed together.

Have spent all Pattaya holidays at the RG and I just returned home from a great 3 weeks. I spent the entire time at the RG and I have no complaints. The staff were as friendly and helpful as ever. The room was always clean and it had a full double bed, there was always plenty of hot water, i really enjoy having the 2 separate ac controls for the main room and bedroom. The new layout of the restaurant looks great, there was never a problem with bring guest back and the girls seem to enjoy it there.

Will stay there again on my next trip and would recommend the place to anyone.

You see, even Jacko can still remember the two single beds being pushed together. They would seperate and you'd end up in a heap in the middle. Anybody who doubts my 'cred' needs to doubt Jacko and Fatboyfat's cred also. You could also simply ask lb the Owner, he isn't a Liar either.

Well as I said there was a double mattress on there and I personally didn't have that issue... perhaps they fastened the legs together with cable ties.

I do recall the vile mustard coloured blankets they used before investing in nice bedspreads, and double beds were normal for me, as a regular guest who could afford the place. Good hotel, 2 rooms, 2 ACs, 2 TVs, 2 pools, all for the price a little more than those one-room places.

Glad you were able to afford the RG. It's not exactly an expensive hotel as you appear to think, lol.

Guest Fatboyfat

Mention of Ib earlier in the thread got me to thinking ( difficult I know!); and the guy has been here from just about the very beginning of the board; long before most of the current membership. As an advertiser for all that time, he has probably done more than anyone else to help fund and therefore contribute to it's continued existence, other than Martin and Pete. :bow …The joint is a good'un and good value. (That's my "astro-turfing" done with now ! <grin ) :chogdee2
