I flew Eva Air for the first time. LAX-TAIWAN-BKK in executive economy B777.

Here are my raw opinions. Other opinions are sure to differ.

Executive Economy seats are almost equal to the same seats on the Thai A340

Service was friendlier on Eva than Thai, but service routine is better on Thai. For example, Thai gives everyone a bottle of water so that you don't have to page for it. You have to page for it on Eva but they do come running with one of those little glasses of water. Of course, try paging on American Airlines and they will kick you off the plane mid flight.

The Eva food was awful, even worse than American Airlines. Heck, even AA economy gives you a hot towel before the main meal.

Checked luggage gets check all the way through. Transfer at the Taipei airport was a super breeze. Going through security required no effort at all. The airport itself seemed to be fairly small and quiet. After landing the plane pulled straight up to the gate. If you gotta change planes to get to BKK, this is the place to do it.

Eva hammered me for having carry on that weighed more than 7 kilos. They claimed it was an international regulation. I was forced to check my roller board which meant that I wasted money on paying for fast track at BKK.

The on demand entertainment worked perfectly, but the content was a little dated.

Thanks for the report short, I'm not going to disagree with anything you have posted about Eva, although personally i do not know the Thai A340 seats.

What I do know is that Eva is currently having a purge on baggage weight either cabin or hold, should go away before too long.

Most BR flights to BKK are pretty long, to entertain yourselves just try and think how many of those plastic glasses they use per flight. :)

Hi,

Sad to see EVA are tightening up on weight. They always used to be pretty flexible, especially out of bkk. Anyone know what routes EVA use the old B747 combi's on? I thought they were using them on the US routes these days, maybe they've been phased out tho, I recall flying on them in the late 90's.

I flew EVA last year from LHR-BKK and found it lacking in service. Not a patch on the old days, they didn't even offer alcohol! Then again, it probably pays not to expect too much from economy travel these days . I'm due out again on an EVA flight in the next few weeks from LHR, I'll put a report in. Few days in patts then onto Manila.

Cheers

Butch

It's been 3 or 4 years since I flew with Eva, but OP generally reflects my experience. At that time food was more blah than awful. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case with Korean Air now as well.

If you are ever booked on an Eva 747-400 where the seat selection system lets you select a seat on the upper deck, do it. More leg room and a greater chance you will have an empty seat next to you.

Are they still using those 747's? When I flew out of LAX in 2010, it was on a 777.

My main reasons for EVA is that they fly from SFO (Thai Air does not) and they arrive at 11:30 AM or so at BKK and not the middle of the night.

The food is not good but I do not fly for the food.

I just read yesterday that EVA is making all their business class seats as lie flat seats, instead of angled. It is part of their joining Star Alliance. The business class menu is a definite step up from economy and they have decent wines.

I am saving to fly business class for my next trip. I am getting too old for the discomfort of 12 to 15 hours in economy or even premium economy. The lie flat seats will be great! I flew EVA's angled seats and it was like camping and pitching your tent on a downgrade.

As it was at least 3 or 4 years ago that I last flew with Eva, I checked what they would be flying on their SEA-TPE route in October (just for bites and grins). Right now, it is scheduled for a 747-400
