Off-Duty Police Officer arrested by colleagues at South Pattaya Bar

Posted on February 10, 2013 at 12:48 pm

Just after 3am on Sunday Morning Pattaya Police received a report of an off-duty Police Officer who appeared drunk and was brandishing a gun in front of tourists at a Rock Bar on Walking Street in South Pattaya.

Officers and Police Volunteers made their way to the popular Rock Music Bar which was full of foreign patrons and spotted the individual who was clearly in possession of a firearm and appeared in a drunken state. He was dancing close to the sound stage and was surrounded by Pattaya Police who detained the man and relieved him of his 38 caliber handgun and ammunition.

The man was identified as Police Senior Sergeant Major Sutorn who is station at Na-Jomtien Police Station in Sattahip District. It is reported that when he first spotted Police approaching he produced the gun and was waving the weapon in the air.

The off-duty officer was escorted to Pattaya Police Station where his superiors at Na-Jomtien Police were contacted about the incident. It is not clear at this point if the officer will face criminal proceedings.

I once had a worrying train ride to Nong Khai where an off-duty policeman who was absolutely off his head was waving his gun around.

Another time a policeman got fed up of a neighbours dog, which was a problem for anybody trying to ride their bike out of the moo-bahn , he got his gun and shot it dead...... less concerned about that. And there was the policeman's wife recently complaining about the service at a Subaru (I think) dealership waving her husband's gun around.

I advocate gun control!!!

I advocate guns for tourists..........Worn just off the hip. More guns make us safer.

How about guns for the FPV and FTPA..... ? I bet they would be in heaven!!!!!

I'm amazed the Thai cops showed such restraint in dealing with a drunk brandishing a pistol.

I'm pretty sure in the good ole USA, they'd have called out SWAT, forced him to take hostages, SWAT would move in and kill many of the hostages, finally gunning the drunk down after he'd passed out with the gun in his hand.

These guys actually walked up, disarmed him, restrained him, and got him down to the police station without anyone getting killed. I love SAFETY ZONES!

Hardly the first off-duty police officer to do something idiotic under the influence. It does appear his colleagues handled it well.

I have friends who would tell you with a completely straight face, "An armed society is a polite society."

Is it dangerous outside the Safety Zone?

It's pretty much the same everywhere. FLB has a sticker in the entry way (put there by the police) that says it lies within the "Safety Zone".

Martin,do you think a falang waving a gun would have been treated as "well" as he was?

Not for a minute!

Hard to beat this story about a Thai senator accidentally killing his ex-wife with an Uzi in a restaurant.

I guess 'get it yourself' was the wrong answer!
