Gentlemen... I'm pleased to announce we have our business now.     We have bought the Vikings bar in Soi buakhao. We are located beside the Chaba hut. Directly across from the 7/11.   From toni

Here's the latest guys.

We're putting a new bar in and rennovating the place to some extent. Plumbing, extractors etc. The place is closed at the moment but cross fingers we're open soon.

The signs are up and take away menus completed.

Here it is...It's in .pdf format so just click and open with acrobat reader.

Cheers.

According to the menu, the food service hours are noon to midnight, but I don't think the kitchen is fully functional yet.

The menu does look good! When the Wok N Rok has been re-fitted and the food service is up to full speed, I'll drop by and take some pics. It's only a few minutes from where I live, so there's every possibility of me becoming a regular customer.

Thanks for your replies Gents.

It's a good menu. But most important is the quality of the food. I can assure you what you will taste is as good as any Western Chinese restaurant.

Anyway I'll let you be the Judge.

I'll keep you posted on our progress...

Any plans to have a buffet?

Not sure it would be best in this town! :D

And there would be a bearded guy roaring in on a mobility scooter to watch out for.! :D

Let's get opened first.

Mobility scooters are welcome. So are their owners...

Feedback from my visit,

Had Chicken fo yung, chips and curry sauce.

The fo yung was quite tasty tho the portion was small and over priced,i estimated the cost

of ingredients to be about 20B tops, the cost of the dish 110B.

The chips, skinny, almost french fry style were, well to put it bluntly efin awful.

Cook proper chips,it cant be that difficult.Cost of chips 50B.

Now if you thought i was being unkind about the above, the curry was far worse,it tasted and had the

the consistency as if they were running out and had mixed it 50/50 with water.Cost of so called curry

sauce 35B,id like to bet the ingredients for this wishy washy curry was about 5B.

I was sooo looking forward to good old uk chinese chippy style food.A total let down.

We stopped by right before Christmas. It is a single shop house with a small people watching balcony fronting Soi BuaKhao with a small bar that takes up about half of one side of the shop. It has maybe a half dozen tables along with singles sitting along the bar and opposite the bar.

It is sort of a diner style and you couldn't ask for friendlier hosts. I too ordered the "chips" as a starter/appetizer while I waited for a friend and they reminded me of poor frozen french fries but on a positive note a nice English speaking Thai lady who I think was the proprietor's other half brought by some vinegar without being asked. No big deal but the rest of the meal was like that as far as customer service. They were very attentive without being obtrusive.

Any way, we split 3 dishes later; the Peking ribs, black pepper sauce fried beef, and a shrimp dish. The total including 2 beers and a can of soda was 640 Baht, so reasonable. Here is a picture of the 3 dishes we had.

My conclusion was the food was a bit bland, even the ribs but then we are used to more spicy food. I am sure it will only get better with time but it will unlikely be a destination restaurant and there are at least three other Chinese food places in the area. I hope they survive because they seem to be nice people but it is going to be difficult for them with so many alternative eating joints all around them.

I must admit, after living in Thailand, my visits to 'UK style chinkies', in the UK, have also disappointed me with the 'blandness'.

Perhaps Thai food does that for you......the TGF felt the same.

I managed to get some good 'Hot and Sour' soups, once I had persuaded them to find some 'very spicy Chilli sauce'....to mix in.

Maybe something to consider.

It is always one of the problems of promoting yourself on forums such as this. get it wrong and you get pilloried. The reviews so far have been less than promising and I was looking forward to trying the place. I hope that the owners are taking notice as to the best of my knowledge the one thing that this forum is very good about is giving honest reviews on the food. I look forward to more reviews and perhaps some feed back from the management.

Was it blurry like that?

LOL Seen through the eyes of a "shed load" of San Mig.!!! I normally find that delicacies such as the "midnight Doner" take on that appearance!
