Another close match between Argentina and Switzerland. A nail biter to the end.

Argentina scored 3 minutes before the end and Swtzerland than hit the lower left post. Argentina won 1:0, undeservedly. It is now time to wait for the USA game against Belgium. Too late trying to have a nap. I might fall asleep and miss out on the game in one hour's time. Good luck USA. :thumbup

All the big teams are playing piss poor at the moment , lets hope they improve before the quarters........!

The USA played better in the first half than all the other teams already qualified for the quarter finals, Brazil, Columbia, Holland, Costa Rica, France, Germany and Argentina. Don't forget they are playing against a very strong Belgium, with young De Bruyen their best player, unlucky not to score twice. The USA had a couple of very good chances as well. Jürgen Klinsmann seems totally committed to his team and looks worried all of the time. He is an American now and sang the USA national anthem as well. Johnson is unlucky to be out of the game with a hamstring injury. One yellow card for each team from the good Algerian referee.

The second half will be a thriller and if the USA wins it will be sensational and the whole world will talk about it.

Howard, the USA goalie, is the true hero of this game. He denied the Belgians again and again. The USA nearly scored in added on time and almost won the game. Clint Dempsey is a great player and captain. It's quite amazing how many games go into extra time in this World Cup.

Unlucky USA. They were all over Belgium in the second half of extra time, but somehow failed to score their second goal. They were also unlucky to play against the strongest team in the last 16. Great game USA. Congratulations.

USA team did better than most expected. . I'm proud of their progress. . This might get more interest in the game back there.

I do think this was the best of the round of 16 I've seen. Both teams played well, and I'd like to see Belgium make it to the semi-finals over Argentina. De Bruyne was great to watch as he tried so many times to get past Tim Howard. . And finally did.

So now we are down to the last 8 who is brave enough to predict the winner, for me I say brasil, if only due to home advantage, if not then Holland, what about you?

That's was a tuff loss for USA. Howard played a great game in goal! I think Holland will win it all! Go Orange!!

My remaining sentimental favorite is Costa Rica, another team that had outplayed the consensus.

I'm taking a long shot on the winner though. . Columbia.

Howard set a World Cup record for the most saves in a match. .16. Belgium worked him and worked him until they got through.

Tim Howard, a heroic stand for a losing team. .

Hi,

Belgium performed the best of the big teams. I though the game should have been well over at 90 mins. Still, USA showed great resolution in extra time and are now a credible force in the game. Argentina ??? Unless they improve and Kun comes back I've done my money. :cry2 Belgium and Colombia look the top 2 teams at this stage.

Looking at the statistics Colombia,Brasil or Argentina will be the next worldchampion.

Until now all worldchampionships hosted in South America were won by a South American team.

I find it difficult to name a potential winner when I look at the teams that are still in the race .

Belgium,France,Germany,Colombia are the best TEAMS as an entirety.

But when Robben,Messi or Neymar has a good day, one of them could just win the worldcup for their country.

That was a great game to watch as a neutral , end to end and very entertaining , USA were unlucky not to take it to penalties and the way Tim Howard played had it gone to spot kicks they would have won......!

Hi,

USA played well in extra time but were lucky to get there. As you say Tim Howard was brilliant.

It was great to have a day off from football (soccer) yesterday. It gave us a chance to make some overdue travel preparations in Pattaya, instead of watching the football all night long and then mostly hibernating during the day, eating rubbish meals from the 7/11 from across the road. I have never seen so little traffic like yesterday morning on Third Road, Pattaya Nua and then Sukhumvit. Half of Thailand must have watched the football and slept all morning. A lot of places we went to had half their staff missing, taking the day off.

Team USA’s 19-year old youngster, Julian Green came on late in extra time and scored a fantastic goal. Green was signed up by Bayern some time ago, but only had a few minutes play in Bayern’s first team. Bayern are now saying he will be one of the stars of Team USA at the next World Cup in Russia in 2018.

Ironically, 23-year old Kevin de Bruyne, Belgium’s best player against Team USA plays in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg as well. Germany could do with Green and de Bruyne playing in tomorrow’s match against France.

Hi,

Another player who Chelsea got rid of. One could name a great team at the WC from players Jose didn't fancy.

Maybe it's time to get rid of Jose Mourinho.

Dear me, you would make a Chelski fan convulse to even consider removing the special one!

They waited so long to get him back!

He will make that side shine again, no doubt about it, if he can live with the Russian!

My mate has a season ticket for Chelsea……..He was so cheesed off with them he considered giving it up…….. Then he heard Jose's daughter had checked into a London drama school….. He renewed on the basis that Mr Special was coming back…... even before the news broke.

By the way…..Happy J4 to all Americans……. You've a TEAM to be proud of.

Hi,

The evidence is mounting against Jose. Robben, De Bruyne and Lukaku to name but 3.
