Thailand to screen for quality tourists. And Martial Law tourism!

Let us forget about what we expats and mongers want from the government and think about the ordinary Thai and what they want . Pattaya and Bangkok only distorts the facts , Thailand is a whole lot more than Walking Street or Soi Cowboy . Virtually all the Thais that I mingle with day after day are glad that the Army stepped in - they feel that the country is generally more peaceful and stable than it was a year ago . Yes , there is still much corruption which they all seem to contribute to in various ways , but they are prepared to accept some corruption and being Thai they are also prepared to wait for as long as it takes to stifle corruption that affects the country's economy . They can also accept that the Army is not diplomatic and will make mistakes but , to them , it is an improvement on what was there before . And lets be honest , if you want a good time or some serious sex , then there is still more out there than we can handle .

Isn't it more of a timeline rating?

Like old world, (Europe), New World (Americas+Oz) then the rest being third world.

Anyhow, the 10th largest economy (for example) still has dire dire poverty within.

First world = us rich guys

Second world = Communist world, basically now Cuba and North Korea

Third world = everybody else

But nowadays the last one isn't polite, you have to say "developing world" or "emerging economies."

Yes of course, 'Third World ' suggests backwards and toxic tapwater.

I wonder what they used to call the New World before?

(Edit for idxxot.......before it was called that and after it was discovered... :D)

Well, before they knew it was there, they didn't call it anything I guess.

The Old World was just "the world." Kind of like USB1 used to be called just USB.

Sir, you have Second world and Third world reversed.

Also, countries like Canada, Australia, and the UK qualify as first world in my opinion. (pardon me if I left someone out.)

My good man, no I have it right, and I said "us rich guys" meaning "we," not "US" as in 'USA" rich guys.

Second World

The First World today includes Western Europe, Australia and NZ, the USA and Canada, Japan, S Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore, borderline South Africa and Argentina. Okay, Greece also borderline. And Nova Scotia.

Hate to disagree...

but the UK is now a third world country as the influx of foreigners have fcuk@d up both the health service and the education system...quality tourists... wherever they come from are only quantified by their bank balance.

We've not been back for 18 months and we are expecting some serious changes.

Just hope Pattaya feels like the home it once was.
