You may well be right however when I first came to Thailand I observed all the rules until I knew otherwise. Perhaps the most flouted in Pattaya are the body things. I have on many occasions had the current lady give me a pedicure and as for touching the head, well this is never an issue. I would however expect that if I were to visit Issan for instance that I should brush up on my attitudes and try to recall what is and isnt acceptable.

I don't think a Thai would say we should "wai". We're generally so clueless about it, that they'd prefer us not to.

It is awkward. We are often told not to in some environments, but my Mrs is pretty quick to tell me I have been 'waied' and need to return it with her friends and relatives.

Ditto. Especially with elders, which is a bit ironic, as I am probably older than most of them, just don't look it !

As for the head touching thing, from my experience, it seems to be far more relevant to males, than to females.
