Due to a 6 am flight out of BKK I would like to stay at the BKK Novatel but the rate is $160/night. Is there a way to beat that? I used Thai Air points last year but those are all gone now.

That's only good for the following 2 weeks, AFAIK.

The rates are dependent on travel dates in most cases, wherever you book.

Without that information, it's really pointless to try to help.

I this the Novatel by the airport?

For what it's worth, traffic is light very early in the morning. There's no real need to be close to the airport. You could easily take a cab from lower Sukhumvit and be at the airport in no time.

Hotel price is always dependent on travel dates. This site is a viable option for up to date information on discount pricing. What is the meaning of AFAIK?

This is for high season although I don't think Bangkok is affected by seasons as much as the beaches are.

I'm interested in the airport hotel because I have to get up so early in the morning.

AFAIK=As far as I know.

I doubt you are going to get a lower rate. I stayed there last October for the same reason. I paid about $213 through Agoda because I am leary of non refundable reservations.

Not really a recommendation, but another late stay site is wotif.com.

Wow 6 a.m. flight means at the airport at 4, so you can stay anywhere in Bangkok and get there in 20 minutes. Or less.

$160 is insane for a Bangkok hotel.

You can stay at the President Palace on the Club Floor on Suk/11 for usually about Bht 2,500 through Asiatravel.com or the hotel's own site, especially if prepaid, and prepay is Ok if you do it in Pattaya an hour before you leave for Bangkok.

This website has changed. Perhaps it is just me? Does it look the same as back in Feb to you?

Used to be you could search a list of hotels per city or portion of city, no longer. It is not user friendly now.

Yeah, I find the new format completely useable. You used to get a table of hotels vs dates, with prices for each cell. That was great if your travel dates were flexible.

I'm not sure what they're aiming for now, but it's not the same market.

I would pick a city and an area of that city and decide which hotel I wanted for a day to so during the next couple weeks that were on the screen. I could pull up all the hotels they had for any city for the next two weeks. The new site isn't designed for me. Oh well.

I don't like the new design.

Loads of hotels around the Lat Krabang area close to the airport, at well less than half the cost of the Novatel, they all run shuttle buses to the airport, average journey time 5-10 minutes tops.

Re latestays: It appears that the Wotif Group also included Latestays and Wotif has been acquired by Expedia.

One site in India said Wotif has disappeared in their market and attempts to log on to latestays will redirect you to the Expedia website.

Everyone knows Delta's seats suck. Why did you do it? If you had flown American economy then your worst leg would have been the Narita to BKK simply because its another 7 hours after already being exhausted on the 12 hour flight to Narita. You've got to be careful now on the 777s because carriers are starting to cram another column in economy.

And who were you flying with at 6am, if it wasn't Delta? :P

Well played nkped. CP

I hate 6 AM in a premium seat. Its like a 300 lb woman telling me that she will do anything that I like.
