Retirement extension--latest iteration

I just came back from submitting my new retirement extension application. All things considered, it went pretty well.

 

Stopped off at one of the shops on Soi 5, got my photos, copies and the application completed for 150 baht.

 

At immigration, the young woman at the front counter, in school uniform, checked my forms and gave me my number. There were only three people ahead of me for retirement extensions.

 

At the retirement desk, the woman checked the package determined one more page of the passport needed to be copied and did it right there. She had me sign two copies of the form advising the consequences of over staying and one more advisal which I didn't quite figure out. Of course, she collected the 1,900 baht fee.

 

I had my lease as proof of address. My rental agent included a copy of her Thai ID card with the lease. This filled the bill.

 

My income letter from the embassy was 75 days old and that was fine.

 

No additional form asking for social media, email, etc.

 

Come back tomorrow for my passport and a laminated card as receipt in the meantime.

 

So far, so good.

Good to know they accepted the 75 day old income affidavit.

Got the passport back today with the new extension. Of course, that was anticipated after they accepted the package yesterday, but it's not done until it's done.

 

I had seen multiple reports that the income letter was good for up to three months. Still, in light of the reports of immigration imposing new requirements, I had made an appointment at US citizen services in Bangkok for Monday just in case. I just canceled that.

Different for Americans I believe. Less lee-way for ordinary ex-pats........ But I'm not bitter.......It's more envy.

There was an Immigration notice, about 3 years ago, that they would accept "Embassy letters" if they are less than 6 months old. Reports on ThaiVisa show that it seems work this way in big places (Bangkok, Pattaya,...) but not so well in smaller provinces... A 2 or 3 months old letter should work anywhere though :)

Hi. I made my "retirement extension" yesterday at Jomtien.

 

I went there at about 3:30pm and it was nearly desert :smile: . 2 ladies at the reception chatting together. One took and checked my file in 5 seconds and gave me a number for desk #8. No one waiting at that desk. One assistant asked for my documents, marked all important dates with a yellow marker pen, made me sign 2 documents (*), asked for my passport and 1'900 baht, gave me a ticket and "come back tomorrow after 2pm". Done :smile:

 

Nota: I gave the strict minimum of usually asked documents:

- the TM.47 document (filled, signed and with 1 photo)

- the letter from my Embassy as proof of revenues

- passport copies: details page, visa (or transfert) page, last extension

 

Nothing more asked:

- I usually give a 3BB bill as proof of address. Not required this time. I had it with me in case of, and also copies of my condo chanote...

- no question on bank on passbook to show

- I forgot to print/copy my TM.6 card (a mistake!) but no one made a remark on it.

 

(*) the 2 documents I had to signed were:

- Acknowledgment of Penalties for a Visa overstay : discussed many times already.

- Conditions for Permit of temporary stay : a reminder that if the Reason of your visa change (or is no more), your extension may be reduced or voided. (divorce or death if married, end of job if visa for work permit, ...)

 

I returned today 3pm to collect my passport. Take them just the time to type my name on their computer and to take yet another picture of me.

Good for one more year :smile:

Yes you would assume they must be getting the hang of it by now. Some times you have to fight to get in the door it is that crowded but this week it was a breeze.

Yesterday 10:30am... Extension-retirement visa,

In and out in 10-minutes, copies of the usual passport info including house contract, money in bank account and Kasikorn letter (which cost 100 baht) They never wanted to see the original bank book. The young guy on my left had the yellow felt tip marker working at break-neck speed...and also quick to take the money 1900 baht.

Come back after 10:00am following day.

 

Plus had to sign the 2-docs below.

(*) the 2 documents I had to signed were:
- Acknowledgment of Penalties for a Visa overstay : discussed many times already.
- Conditions for Permit of temporary stay : a reminder that if the Reason of your visa change (or is no more), your extension may be reduced or voided. (divorce or death if married, end of job if visa for work permit, ...)

 

Today 10:30am.. picked up passport and took 20-minutes for multi re-entry visa.

Can't understand why this is so expensive @ 3800 baht.

So....Yesterday I went to my local immigration office to obtain my retirement extension. I had all the required documents and the officer informed me the cost was 1900 baht w/receipt AND....He requested an additional 2000 baht for what he called an investigation. He said an investigator would come by and check my residence to make sure that I was living at the address I used on my paperwork.

 

It is my home and where I live but he made sure to tell me that if the investigator couldn't confirm the information that immigration would cancel my extension. He also noted that it was only for the first time, after that no problem. He also made it clear that the 2000 baht was with NO receipt. Is this normal or did I just contribute to the fund?

You were conned. Which immigration office did this to you?

Even better when I entered Thailand, immigration at the airport failed to give me a departure card and I didn't even think about not having one. I searched on line and was told I could just obtain a new one at immigration and there should be no charge.....Again they charged me 200 baht for a new one..... of course with NO receipt.

 

I have been here for three months and it seems like I get conned on a regular basis......I understand the reasoning it just seems a little unfair and a poor way to treat a visitor in their country. If people could only treat other people with respect it would be a much better world.

 

Office was in Korat.
