What's the mark-up. Beer.....

Just restocked my fridge, well actually 2 fridges, and was thinking how it is all a bit more expensive than it used to be.

I was pondering the mark-up made by beer bars and GGBs for the pleasure of a nice environment and entertainment..

 

A case of Small Heinekins (24x325ml bottles) is 945 baht.

A case of SML (24x 330ml bottles), 950 baht.

Bought from a Naklua distributor....

So SML, despite being mostly water, some would say something else, is 5 baht more, but you get 120 ml more, nearly a half bottle!

Heinekin decides it's drinkers don't hold the stuff well so give you less.

Both are 5% Alcohol.

 

 

Each is pretty much 39 baht ....call it 40.

 

Big bottles are cheaper by volume, 810 baht for 12x630ml, 68 baht each.

 

For those who say 'I never drink at home', I can only say that a cold one, chilled to a perfect temperature, that you have waited a hot afternoon for, tastes real good as the sun dips and you watch her go down, the sun that is.

My neighbours and I drink copious amounts of Hongthong. For 300 baht you get 1 big bottle of honkers/ 6 bottles of soda/bag of ice...

 

I was charged 85 baht in the "new" cats corner for a sip of the stuff .... straight...3pm...with just a couple of women there that were probably too old to get a job in 5 star bar...!!

 

Soda water...bloody soda water...some places charge 50 effing baht for a 330ml bottle...!!!!

Soda water, 140 baht I think for a case if I return the empties, 24x400ml bottles, 6 baht each!

Beer hits the thirst spot for me, but the first couple just take the dust off.

Sometimes, just sometimes, I will have a G&T, gotta be Tanqueray. But the way I make them I might be falling in the pool before dinner.

bloody hell I can get a case of Heinekin 12x330 ml for £9 from Tesco's here in the UK. Trouble is, like Kronenburg it gives me a headache, that's why I stick to Hoegaarden these days.

 

Gin tonic, well my taste has changed in recent years, it has to be Tanqueray Rangpur and Fever Tree tonic, nothing else will even come close to replacing it.

A beer at my club is 220 baht.......And often its warm.....They bring a little ice-bucket but I've usually drunk it before it's proper chilled.

Which soda water do you prefer? I've lately switched to Chang and think it better. If any is left in the bottle at end of day I use it in the coffee pot the next morning.

When drinking hongthong I drink the bottles of soda it comes with from the shop.

 

When I am out and about my choice is purely made on price which is why I will never use Retox again nor Jollys......No loss for them, except that I breakfast with friends so if any of us dislike a place the group doesn't meet there..

 

Funilly enough 5 Star Bar on beach road is the cheapest I have found at 30 baht...

It seems gin is back in fashion. I used to drink a gin and it (angustura bitters)when I was in my 20's. I have bought a bottle of Gordons and a bottle of Tanqueray recently so I'm going with the flow.

It's a treat for me, as I'm working shifts, and now weekends and on call up to Xmas I'm not going to get another chance until January at the earliest to enjoy a nice G&T.

Tanqueray is bloody lovely, but if you get a chance try some "Bulldog" Gin which comes in a black bottle, it's really smooth and creamy, no lime needed either. I think it runs at about £18 for 750 ml in Tesco's, or if you're posh, £18 for 750ml in Waitrose. :)

 

Atlas, I'd be less worried about your toenails and more concerned on where your other leg has gone.

Just be thankful you drink beer and not cider like me cheapest can of Magners is around 130 baht in Foodmart Jomtien..but I suppose thats same price as back in the UK? I can't remember...but expensive taste lol

Cider isn't so bad (or even cheap) in the UK in the supermarkets.

I believe it was 3 bottles for £5 in Morrison's when I was there, and you could pick and mix a bit.

Then there was the 'white cider' which the winos liked as it was strong and cheap, also partly responsible for putting my brother in his grave.

 

As you say hard to find cheap here (compared to a draft piss in a GGB), which is a shame as I find it nice and refreshing when the weather is hot.
