I'm in town for 3 weeks from the 14th July and would rather like to have a go at this. They have a full marathon, half marathon and 10 kilometre event. No way I would try the marathon, but I hope I could manage the half ( 21 Km). A half marathon in England is no problem, but maybe the heat would stop me in Pattaya, where the furthest I've run is Soi 8 to Jontien and return (Maybe 12 Km).

Apparently the event is organised from the TAT office in Pratamnuk Road, but maybe I will be too late to enter on the 14th.

Anyone else got any information ?. This is the best web-site I found:-

Yeah, you have to get up too damn early. I think I will stay in the air-conditioning and have a horizontal marathon....whenever I wake up.

gee running a marathon pissed with a BG in tow. They ought to have a special category for that. 3 am start might get a large turnout for that classification. <grin :D

Thanks cybers1b for that link, which gave me the information I needed. It looks like I will be able to enter the day I arrive - 14 July.

If I am able to finish I think it will have added a new dimension to my appreciation of Pattaya. If things get really tough a mid-race massage maybe possible.

Thanks Cyber - The River Kwai event looks possible for me !.

Right - where's my kit - I need to get out for some training, or the pattaya half may be a disaster.

in the first one i just did not take the weather conditions here seriously enough and got dehydrated and had to quit at 25 km, last year, i just did start way too fast and was out of breath after 12 km only - very disapointing. Well, let's wait for this year :nod

All,

This is going to be a big deal.

I see stages, huts and platforms being built all along Beach Rd. Also the new 25ft lights are going up on Beach sidewalk.

Guys are running around in spandex in great numbers. I get enough exercise just watching all this. :eyecrazy

Yep I',m here - I've entered at the City Hall 1000 baht !. Pick up number and tee shirt tomorrow at Royal Garden. I've been out for a training run this morning and was tired at 8 Km due to the heat, so how I will complete 21 Km I'm not sure, although I have a young lady in support on the course. It starts early Sunday morning so no beer for me tomorrow night.

If any of you guys like to see suffering - just watch the marathon !.

I will write a report if and when I finish.

Dave,

Hope your race went well today.I used to compete regularly in the UK till an ankle injury forced me to quit.I currently do about 5 miles four times a week just to keep the beer belly at bay a little bit.

I'm currently in Thailand for one year (this is week 2).I'm in Udon Thani at the moment but plan to be in Pattaya during August.

Cheers.

Hi Guys,

I watched the runners go past the Roof Garden Inn this morning around 6-ish (I think) from my bedroom window. Fancy being out running that time of day.

Good luck to them.

Cheers

Well I finished but it was a bit of a struggle !. The first few miles were Ok but the heat got to me and I slowed down badly along the Jontien seafront and up the hill into Pattaya. It was rather a strange experience running along walking street past FLB at 7 am !. My time was just over 2 hours.

My run was not helped my some hassle prior to the race from a TG who wants to marry me and who I terminated. Oh well - all part of the Thailand Experience

I was impressed by the race organisation - easy registration, which included a tee shirt and bag. Timing was by microchip and there was plenty of water available on the course, although they put ice in it which was a mistake as gulping ice water when you are hot can lead to stomach cramps. There was a show before the start which included fire-eaters and acrobats. At the finish on Beach Road near Soi 4 was an impressive array of drinks and food. All in all a memorable experience, which I rounded off later by a few hours in Classroom aggo taking a hot cutie from there back to the hotel.

I feel good today - I ran and half marathon and fucked a 22 year old all night - not bad for a 61 year old I tell myself. You guys should try running - it does good things for you.

Just wonder did the winner this year "break the record" again !?

I don't think Dave broke the record, but from the sound of things I think he's going for a personal best.
