NWA - Price going up

I have been watching the price for NWA and as of this writing the price has gone up from $850.50 to $999.50. This has been over the last 2 months since my last visit.

 

As for the other airlines the prices are on the rise.

Most major Airlines are increasing ticket prices becuase if increased oil prices (THAI included). Motorbike Taxis in Bangkok also have increased prices allready in some areas.

Yep British airways and virgin atlantic have just increased the fuel surcharge it is know £6 for a single long haul journey

This isn't going to help either:

 

NW is changing its BKK-NRT leg(s) to an airbus A330-200 aircaft seating 243 vs. 403 on the 747-400 that is currently used. Now I think this is a big mistake as it will restrict availabliity (and increase prices) on the NW USA- BKK trips. This segment is almost always full on the 747, so a lot of people are going to have to find other travel arrangments. It can only drive prices up.

I have today booked a trip from Washington DC roundtrip from Oct. 4 to Dec. 2 for $845. I also booked a trip from Jan. 4 '05 to April 3 for the same price. That price is cheaper than my last trip which was $920. All prices included tax. If some agent is jumping the price on you...you need a new agent.

I just booked tonight for 31 Oct - 15 Nov. and flying 747's both ways. Maybe the Airbuses are just for the high rollers. SB

I told you guys back in May that with gas at all time highs that the prices would be going up. Now it's September and the prices are still going up. I plan on booking my March trip in the next couple of days.

From Fort Myers, FL, the price for flight through Dec. 23rd is still quoted as $833 before tax and fees.

 

Thats through Travelocity. For me, the fares are always cheaper on Travelocity, Orbitz, etc. than on the airlines website. But I'm sure that these cheaper fares are for a limited number of seats, but I've never had a problem booking them right on the net.

S_B - the Airbus switchover starts on 11/2/04, which is why you still get a 747 for earlier flights.

 

LBJ - that seems to be the best rate going, and is comparable to consolidators like angeltravel.com

I just bought a RT ticket LAX-BKK-LAX on EVA in Evergreen Deluxe for under $900 all-in. Why anyone would want to fly coach for the same price, or more, is beyond me. I'm sure some folks in the States will say they don't live near LAX, but EVA also flies from SFO, NYC, and SEA. You have to connect somewhere and I think you're better off flying Southwest, JetBlue, and the like cheap to one of these hubs then connecting onwards.

Your only problem with using SWA/JetBlue to make a connection is that you can NOT check any luggage to the final destination {BKK}, as these carriers do not have interline agreements with other major carriers.

 

Give yourself some extra time to claim your luggage and re-check it on the one taking you to BKK....Now if they lose your luggage {SWA/JetBlue}, you will play hell getting them to send it to BKK for you.

 

As far as prices going up, looks like the cheap seats are sold out....I got EVA for Jan 2005 @ $624 {USD} out of LAX, but I bought in June 2004...{coach}

I live about as far from Thailand as you can get in any one direction and I have checked in to the possibility of other airlines such as EVA. The problem is that trying to make these kind of connections usually results in longer layovers. The way I go now, I don't have any layovers longer than 90 minutes and for me it's all about getting there as quickly as I can.

I usually prefer a two hour layover. Gives me enough time to finish a pack of smokes. By the way, does anyone know if there are any smoking lounges in either MSP or DTW?

As for connecting with different airlines, I really don't think it is a good idea. On my trip last year I flew to SFO with an award ticket and had to wait 9 hours for my CP flight. Return trip, my flight was late and wound up staying overnight in SFO. Think it's a better idea going from point to point with one airline.

DTW (Detroit) has 1 sports bar that you can smoke in. It is near the across from the dutyfree.

even the servicesmans lounge at MSP is smokefree, which was the only place left to smoke.
