I think the only ever time for me was eons ago when I had one of those 100$ bills that were in the 'we do not accept' serial number group. I changed it in a bank and was asked for my PP. I better put my FF card in my wallet I guess.

I passed a Russian at the TT exchange last night and he was discreetly trying to count a substantial pile of 1000 baht notes. I did not see whether he had changed roubles or another currency, but you can imagine rouble carriers fairly sprinting to the exchange booth. The linked article suggests it becomes more difficult for all but the wealthiest to take money out of their home country. This cannot bode well for Pattaya which has focussed heavily on their custom. Although like MM, I would not be a sad man to see fewer huge Pegas coaches impeding traffic.

Perhaps I will spend NYE in town.... so long as there is no damned obligatory Gala Dinner!

You have to worry for them. If the booths did stop accepting their currency, many could be stranded here without funds. Many may cancel if they thought they could not exchange their money, and are they still selling USD/Euros in Moscow. The Russian rouble was not on the list for currency exchange when I was sat in the Bangkok Bank yesterday, It is on their internet list. It is still on the SCB internet page at 0.34 baht, used to be parity.

When the Russians arrive in Pattaya, are they loaded up with USD, or mostly bringing their sadly declining rouble with them? They will be desperately trying to change their roubles into property surely, even at inflated relative prices. I still see what appears to be a lot of them making a home shopping in Homeworks and Homepro.

I don't know, 6am not being my time to be out and about, but my guess is a vehicle owner may have given him a slap. FB members are mostly 14 year old girls aren't they. The locals were very tolerant in this case, but I don't think that is what generally happens. I once saw a guy get attacked for knocking a motorcycle helmet off a seat as he tried to squeeze through after exiting Nevada A-Go-Go. Intriguing how this guy was so well tolerated.

Perhaps in NY or London he would have been arrested and removed. I once saw one very similar in the departure lounge at the Bangkok airport. I often wonder if they let him board.
