Jomtien One Way from November 12

I was thinking the same as Atlas2 as I drove down Jomtiem Beach Rd, the wrong way yesterday! Surely false starts is not a safe way to go! Harro, I think it has been mentioned that falangs do also block soi Buakhao, probably in proportion to the ratio of Thai to falang drivers. To say the falangs learned it from the Thais is also absurd, they discovered for themselves that they too could get away with it, so their own selfish nature won out. -

Yes, but he did it himself, oblivious to all others. Don't get me wrong, the Thais do say 'he is not my brother', ie are very self focussed, but farangs are just as capable of being self centred. From the Russian pushing into the BigC queue, refusing to shuffle up on the baht bus, to the German in his BMW parking right before the main entrance to the Mall, and others putting their feet up on tables. Dare I mention smokers for fear of a bun-fight. -

Yes, I believe he went to an ATM there! -
Well mine wanted one for some exercise and as a way of going to and from the nearby market. No major roads involved so danger not an issue. The novelty soon wears off! Now she complains too hot, sun on my face, hard work, rain, need to carry big bottle of water............and a multitude of other excuses to take the motorcycle instead. I have known many friends who went on cycling rides to keep fit, but on the East side of Sukhumvit, other than there being a spell of muggings (some bikes are expensive) they were okay.

Something like this was mentioned at the Expats Club some months back. At that time they were being more selective.......... Sure, one has to be suspicious, and in this country the protections are limited. (You have won a valuable prize sir, a free week in one of our properties, $100 administration charge!!! ) But seriously, if it is being held in a public place, short of them hitting you over the head, what do you have to lose? Marks & Spencer Food Shop at Central Festival

I did not say that, I said that many of the Chinese people I saw had awful rotting teeth. Tea is well known to stain teeth, I quickly see a difference in my own when back in tea guzzling UK. I also felt the same in rural Argentina, where they drank their own version of green tea called Mate... (with an accent). They too had awful rotting teeth........ Both nationalities also smoked heavily so quite young people had poor teeth and from an English perspective that is saying something. I believe it was more to do with no or little dairy in their diet, hence low calcium levels when younger. You are fortunate to have all your own teeth for someone who falls down and bangs his head often. -

I agree, having been stuck behind a parked truck for a while on that very street the other day. -

Green tea tastes like shit, nor do I go for flavoured teas too much (other than some Earl Grey I have). When I was working in China in non air-conditioned heat, all the tight buggers supplied was hot green tea and I learned to loathe it. I was also concerned as it appeared to make the teeth rot out of their heads.. along with the incessant smoking. I don't buy tea in 25-bag boxes as that would not last me very long. 100 bags is much better. My past morning wake-me-up was a big mug of coffee, proper stuff not instant. But it was giving me problems and I had to stop it. I shall take a look in the M&S shop soon, haven't been yet, I am sure there will be some excellent overpriced Christmas items. I have an unopened box of loose tea a Sri Lankan gave me years ago, but I don't have a tea pot so it never got used. Since the heat is back my afternoon tea habit (with a couple of jammy dodgers) has stopped, so I simply have one in the morning. -

Let me take a stab at this one. If they were produced in Thailand, they wouldn't be Italian! -

yeah my Mrs returned telling me of flooding in Naklua and Pattaya, at the house we just had a little rain and a few frightening thunderclaps. Rainy season swan-song let us hope! Is the lake full enough for the boat races yet? When will that be?

69 baht, you regard as expensive? Down from 240 so it is certainly 'cheaper'..... You should post your own topics on places to eat at your price mark, pictures included etc. At the moment you seem to be jumping in on someone else's posts negatively...let us not do that.

You have to get something into your head, perhaps a couple of somethings. Restaurants are in the business to make money, profit is integral. The price something is sold for has little to do with the cost of creation and supplying it, although that may be a bottom line. A price reflects what the market will bear, or what someone is prepared to pay for it. In a brand new place that may include some guesswork. I agree the spaghetti portion doesn't look very big, but sometimes pasta is only one of the many courses. I also prefer sausage, particularly Italian sausage in my pasta sauces, rather than minced beef (which would not suit most Thais). A comment that you think it is expensive might be justified, but personally I doubt that would make me go shopping and return home rather than enjoy a meal out with no washing up to do. (If I attempt anything in the kitchen, I create more washing up mess than school dinners). Chill out Gabor. -
