  1. Some rain at last.

  2. A sunny bright Monday....

  3. My TGF bought one of those cheap Chinese ones, I am sure it is nearly as heavy as my motorcycle. And let me tell you it is hard work to ride that thing around. My old lightweight bike seemed to require little effort. But then I was 30+lbs lighter too!
  4. San Francisco is rather special in the USA wrt Chinese food. As is the variety in NYC. But I have tried it in many other cities, Houston, Phoenix, Rochester, Pittsburgh, Orlando (are they deep south Hillbilly places?), and they were often huge buffets of rather unhealthy fare. Actually mostly my fault for stopping at that particular style of place on the main St heading back late from work, having skipped lunch! I just scrubbed Philly from my list though!
  5. Yeah, we get the leftovers at the Expats Club breakfast the next morning!
  6. I had not realised that the China Garden was no more.
  7. It isn't something I ever ask for but the stores do have Schweppes Ginger Ale. In fact, I think I will have one now.
  8. Bangkok bank offers cards with a chip in them that protects against cloning. Another protection is to have an SMS sent to your phone whenever there are withdrawals. A regular savings account will only offer 0.5% Fixed term deposits can achieve 2.0-2.5% depending on the term. Bangkok Bank Rates
  9. Overcast and threatening rain.

  10. Well that is sort of what I do, maintain my savings account above 800k and utilise it for day to day living as well. I don't see the need for a day to day joint account, purely to show activity. It has never been required for my retirement extension, just the bank letter and copies of the passbook of my savings account. I could believe it necessary if you obtained an extension based on marriage to a Thai, but then she would not need the 800k on deposit. I don't feel I need a joint bank account, although I know many couples who do have them.
  11. My issue as to getting my deposit returned, which was substantial, a months rent and a 50k security, was just due to circumstances. Farang man and Thai wife who had a few bars in town... he had a major health incident (big bills) and the bar business had a downturn. And I decided to buy a house.... I was paying a bit too much rent. Too many just spend the deposit and struggle to find the cash when it should be returned.
  12. She should have the the obligatory CTPL insurance, it is needed to get the annual tax disk. It is rather basic 3rd party liability cover with limits. It applies to the bike with any legal rider. By legal I would say with a Thai driving licence. You need to check that she does have a legitimate disc and insurance, rather that she is just 'saying' she has. The disc sticker shows the year (Thai calendar) and date, the month written in Thai. If the police stop you, (and they will if you do not wear a helmet), 9/10 they just check your licence. For me that is normally the end of it as I h
  13. Sunny and Hot... not many western tourists.

  14. I have had to put down deposits for 1 months rental before.... sometimes not. I have always had to pay the rental up front though. Perhaps it is to cover electricity and water in case you do a runner. It seems to be a policy that varies from place to place.
  15. What makes you think I have to have the last word...... Thread Closed!
  16. You cannot obtain a retirement visa from where-ever in the world. Only your home country.
  17. And so can you and you will still be wrong. But suit yourself. I shall go and feed my dog, it is a cat actually, but has 4 legs and a tail so I can call it a dog if I wish and appear dumb.
