I actually watched this yesterday....... The Singing Detective.

Perhaps disabling the Norton 360 temporarily to see how things behave is an idea. I know I have problems with some web pages...... it hogs all my resources and I can't do anything for 20-30 seconds, all I see is the HD access hard on. Someone told me that was likely my McAffee. Pages like Pattaya One are typical.

I have never had that problem with them. In the UK , as I was renting from them on a UK licence, they sure required a lot of proof of address items from me. Copies of bank statements/ utility bills etc. They said renting from the town offices this was standard, at the airport it was not required. I am thinking the USA will be more liberal as they don't have the East Europeans stealing rental cars. I know that insurance in the USA was different, apparently many people use their personal insurance as extra cover there which I did not have and I took supplementary from them.

Yes to question 1 and no to question 2.. I never once had a USA licence and rented often based on my UK one. I used to carry the International one, but I don't think I was ever asked for it. (Kalifornia included). Bear in mind the last time I did this is nearly 9 years ago. But of course there is no 'special relationship' to rent a car!

Well the disc is actually rectangular and the annual tax/registration. To renew it you do need a current and recent insurance certificate and there is a tear off bit at the bottom they keep. Most people renew their compulsory (CTPL) insurance at the driving licence centre so they often expire about the same time. So perhaps you had 3 violations, no licence, no registration and no insurance..... The 'tax disc' for a car must be displayed, so you can see when it is due. The motorcycle one, under the seat maybe, sure it gets forgotten. I plug a reminder into my phone. Most Thais girls are airheads when it comes to things like this! But you try forgetting to pay them!!! It was all quite fair.... but beware as the same guy or his friend will be looking out for you now. Paying the fine 'directly' is cheaper and expedient of course. I was watching a Thai guy slipping some notes from his pocket to a discrete hand only the other day as my licence was checked. He got off cheaply (200 baht). My policeman was disturbed I had a Thai licence as farangs are normally a good bet! I am sure many people get away with no licence for years on end just paying up the odd bit of money and taking detours. All part of the fun of the place! PS What/where is mimosa?

Why has your bike got no insurance? Or is that a secondary consequence of you not having a driving licence? Don't you have an International Driving Permit? They set up on Sukhumvit, heading South between Klang and Tai very frequently.... although you 'just got caught'...on a Sunday? That would be unusual, I am more used to weekday mornings.

It isn't surprising you have to cook your own food with the staff dancing around all the time! Not keen on the hot-pot idea myself, I think I tried it once and I was the one cooking. But they do reasonable duck dishes and I like the dim-sum.
