Pattaya is always a few days later, in fact a few regions have their own days, Pattaya makes a week or more of it culminating in a final crazy day (19th).

I went to the floating market not long back... it was truly crap! I believe they have since started charging for entrance. Original poster..... Mid January is still high season, and you did not mention how long you would be in town, and whether you could spend 3 or 4 days travelling further out, or needed to stay close to Pattaya. Surin is maybe 500km away. There are plenty of 'tourist attractions' around Pattaya, but it's main theme is the 'night-life'. There are also lady-boy shows that are very popular, not my thing but women seem to go for them.

Bangkok to Pattaya. If you have your wife with you an airport taxi would be most comfortable and take you straight to where you want to go. (have a phone number or print a map off the internet as the driver will not know his way around Pattaya). There are large vehicles available if you have a lot of baggage. Probably do it for 2000 baht. Pattaya is a touristy place, you can go to the elephant village but it doesn't sound like what you are after, that sounds more like a Surin resort, a long way off. Fishing trips are hard to arrange unless you can get a large enough group together. Again the touristy boat trips, ride to beach, swim, small fish fishing and snorkelling with maybe a meal are commonplace and can be arranged at agents and hotel help desks. Everyone visits Nong Nooch, Sanctuary of Truth, etc etc. But to be honest I wonder whether Pattaya is what you are after. It is very sex orientated!

I think the approach works better in the USA where many cities are built on a grid type network of N-S and E-W roads. Thailand cities aren't like that....nor the UK if it comes to that matter. Most of the now big cities are on rivers which forced a different arrangement.

Beware of the silly little fishing trips where they go for pla dang with dead bait. A good fishing trip involves the bot going out in the night and catching live squid for bait. I have never had much luck with dead squid, barracuda and cobia might go for it, but queen fish not.

Bottled Carlsberg just doesn't seem to be widely available yet, I enjoyed a few while in a nearby country lately and would be glad to see it return.

I don't think it would be such a rare ask, certainly not this week with the town so busy. Likely a lot of tourists would think this a deal as they would compare to their home prices, and a good looking Thai girl, well, start high and let us see what flies.

How about looking at Koh Chang?Boats go out from there and I did a particular trip where we motored for about 5 hours before fishing. We were catching a lot of barracuda. Some kobia (good fighter) Trevally . It can be good if you run into a shoal of queen fish or king fish too. Yes the season is upon us about now and maybe big stuff will arrive.... (sailfish). Talk to PSP at Mistys, I recall he posted about getting one. There are boats go out from Bang Saray too and fish around the islands there. I think a boat for the day could be anything from 8000 to the sky is the limit.

They were giving that lager away at the Sunday Expats Club meet... in rather small samples unless you had one of the club's blue shirts. I posted a thread some months back when this stuff was offered to me at a beer distributors some months back...wisely I took a can out of the fridge and not a case of the stuff. It tasted awful back then. Guys at the club said it tasted OK....... it was priced similar to a case of SML.

I seem to recall being on a KLM Combi in that area and am pretty sure it was Biz Class.(Couldn't get my usual upstairs exit row seat) It was a claustrophobic area that seemed devoid of service although handy for the toilets. It looks like KLM have agreed with me and decided it was not worth the cost of Biz Class and created 'Economy Comfort' there.
