You were asking , And the two answers are. 1) They were insufficiently tested. 2) They are being manufactured/tested or supplied differently than those which were tested. Testing is often developed well before items go into production... I was involved in software testing for aircraft and often complained that the tests were targeting the features and capabilities of the software and not throwing any complex scenarios at it. This happens when something is completely new. It is obvious that there is a problem with the battery/ charging and how it behaves perhaps after many cycles, be it of charge or other affects flight subjects them to. Other problems I had was when we changed suppliers, particularly to overseas suppliers, and some fool deemed they could self certify, or be responsible for their own QC. It will be interesting to find out what happened here, if it ever becomes public knowledge.

I am not sure where you get this 'testing' information and are you asking a rhetorical question (who would you expect to answer these questions here on a pussy forum?)Lithium batteries were a know flight hazard, the several thousand hours of testing may not have beeen consecutive, namely tests accumulated using many aircraft/ and many different batteries. There could be an ageing/ cumulative pressure cycling affect, or the manufacturing specifications not adhered to. I am thinking of the Comet. Perhaps also Concorde, which explored many new technologies.

It is at it's most efficient when the engines are stopped and it is being pulled around by an electric towing vehicle.

That would be me..... I had an external tank at the old house (big blue plastic thing), and the screw top was big enough to let the TGF get in so about once a year I would drain it and the crazy cow would get down there. and give it a good cleaning. Perhaps an in-line filter on the supply line would help. Plenty available in the hardware shops. Bacteria, larvae etc, are you getting your water from the utility supplier or a well? I don't worry about that stuff, the utility is supposed to treat it..... if you suspect it is badly contaminated a little swimming pool chlorine might help. Again an in-line filter sounds good. I don't drink my tank water, not even after boiling, I have teh big bottles of drinking water which also gets used for coffee etc.

I always thought it was more the regular UK licence that backs up the International One... not the other way around. But perhaps you are correct regarding the old paper one.I didn't need the International licence to get my Thai one, just the picture card UK one, no tests other than the eyesight, reaction ones. I use the UK one when in the UK, but an interesting option is using the Thai one, along with a Thai International. Outside of an incident I don't think there is much chance of being stopped by the UK police, I think it is all done with cameras. Would they really lock you up over-night?

They have been around since 1998 haven't they?Days of 'reminders ' a thing of the past, along with the plastic wallet they came with. It would be counter-productive anyhow, more money in the fines. It was only incidental I noticed mine was expiring in 2009 and I got it done while in the UK (they still think I live with my mummy.. )

As to the speeding ticket....I think the rental company gets hit and they might have the right to hit your credit card again.Damned good point about the points though!!! Check the expiry date on your photo licence, if you are young enough likely it is before you are 70. It is item 4b) on there. Generally 10 years after item 4a). You are required to renew the photo every 10 years....perhaps your nose fell off! They ask for a UK address on the licence,if that is valid, the licence is valid......

I hope it will be issued from Swansea and not another thing the UK loses control of.Many forget that the UK picture card licence needs to be renewed every 10 years, and as I am strictly speaking 'non-resident' shouldn't have one. I worry next time it won't fly with the Bureau/Eurocrats.
