That would be me..... I had an external tank at the old house (big blue plastic thing), and the screw top was big enough to let the TGF get in so about once a year I would drain it and the crazy cow would get down there. and give it a good cleaning. Perhaps an in-line filter on the supply line would help. Plenty available in the hardware shops. Bacteria, larvae etc, are you getting your water from the utility supplier or a well? I don't worry about that stuff, the utility is supposed to treat it..... if you suspect it is badly contaminated a little swimming pool chlorine might help. Again an in-line filter sounds good. I don't drink my tank water, not even after boiling, I have teh big bottles of drinking water which also gets used for coffee etc.

I always thought it was more the regular UK licence that backs up the International One... not the other way around. But perhaps you are correct regarding the old paper one.I didn't need the International licence to get my Thai one, just the picture card UK one, no tests other than the eyesight, reaction ones. I use the UK one when in the UK, but an interesting option is using the Thai one, along with a Thai International. Outside of an incident I don't think there is much chance of being stopped by the UK police, I think it is all done with cameras. Would they really lock you up over-night?

It was only incidental I noticed mine was expiring in 2009 and I got it done while in the UK (they still think I live with my mummy.. )

Check the expiry date on your photo licence, if you are young enough likely it is before you are 70. It is item 4b) on there. Generally 10 years after item 4a). You are required to renew the photo every 10 years....perhaps your nose fell off! They ask for a UK address on the licence,if that is valid, the licence is valid......

I hope it will be issued from Swansea and not another thing the UK loses control of.Many forget that the UK picture card licence needs to be renewed every 10 years, and as I am strictly speaking 'non-resident' shouldn't have one. I worry next time it won't fly with the Bureau/Eurocrats.

I guess you mean that you have to change in Muscat?To be expected really with a Middle East based carrier with a hub in the Middle East. I just wish they flew to Manchester...I certainly don't want to change at Heathrow. These new carriers trying to break into the market are good for offering deals. Etihad/Qatar all looking for about £2100 now...... I can get it for £1500 ex-UK but I live out in Thailand.

Yes, but Easter moves around each year being related to lunar cycles and Passover. There is always rhyme and reason for the prices to be up and down. And yes the airlines will investigate ways to improve their income. The school holidays seem to be bad dates price wise..... I also watch out for Chinese New Year ,and the Muslim holidays as I normally go via the middle East. If you actually fly on a holiday (New Years Day, Christmas Day etc) a bargain can sometimes be had. Use Kayak etc and others and good luck.

Yeah that is an old link and I wasn't sure if the 1 year licence was also photographed at the DLC. You will need them for the residence letter I suppose.Of course photocopies of everything, passport, entry card/stamp, visa etc etc. Most important thing to take in my mind is the TGF, she helps me out no end.

Well by new it means new to Thailand, but perhaps you know that. I can't really help much as I have retired out here.......... but you would need a 100k salary or income in my mind. Many are sent here on assignment, as per my game on an engineering project. Others come here on holiday, fall in love (with the place or a local lass), and come back with some savings and start up a business. Risky thing to be doing at your age..... mid 40s are when you should be at the height of your earning power and packing it away. I am thinking some go home with their tail between their legs. You would be taking a risk, but it works out for some. My personal opinion, Thailand is a place to retire to for farangs, not do business, but times are changing here and Thailand is moving in the direction of say Singapore...where Expats are very common. I hope other BMs who do work out here can have some input, but many are bar owners.

I used the regular buses. Rung Ruen to the Southern terminal , plenty from there. I believe there are some buses from Moe Chit, but the one I took went all around the houses skirting Bangkok!
