Fits with what I have heard. My TGF's brother, laid off because of the floods, has been told to be ready to get back to work when called. As an engineer he will be busy getting things up and running before the production staff return. Generally activity like this boosts an economy. There will be a big negative effect on agriculture.

That is a fair point, I should invest £50k and buy HSBC shares with it. But I had a brainstorm some years back and dumped all my managed funds, with an underlying lack in faith in shares generally. It may have been a fortuitous decision at the time but there seems little around to put cash into these days.
