  2. I was with a colleague from the Mid East in upstate New York, he was dumbfounded that Ontario was a fresh water lake!
  3. It does reveal the short time frame involved, the target is detected only 19km away, maybe 45 seconds or less window. The big error, not grounding all flights. Also the claim or report that cruise missiles were in the air.... I do not believe that was the case.
  4. My rainwater collection is off the gutter into 2 plastic bins.... that is all pretty much gone. A single tank for house supply, 2500l can keep me going probably for a week but only if the Mrs is told. I run all of it through the tank as it comes out cleaner and I even add a touch of chlorine to it...... so if my utility supply goes off I wouldn't know unless I took a look at the pressure gauge... yes I put one in! If my electric is off I can bypass the tank. I was in the garden yesterday listening to the pump kick in and out as my Mrs cleaned house, boy can that woman waste water. Thais seem to really like spray nozzles!
  5. Suspected Tor (Russian made) radar guided from a ground launch unit. I don't think it gets that clever after launch Butch, the squawk you talk of will be radio transponder and I doubt the Tor is looking for it. Sounds pretty effective and I think the only 'safety' would be an ability to abort between firing and proximity to target. That would be a pretty short time frame.
  6. Remember Pompei Butch.....
  7. They are putting new pipes in around my area, and as per usual, the digging hit the old pipes and a nearby street became a river. My Mrs asked the security man of a village there, did you call water people for fix... he looked at her as if she was mad, sort of 'why should I get involved?' Nobody arrived for a long time, these things often seem to happen on a Friday late afternoon. My water was out all night, but back on in the morning. Other than that, the water seems to be going off, or very low pressure, late mornings to mid afternoon now, but I have a tank. Anybody else getting regular cuts?
  8. Certainly does not look it, looks like molasses!

  10. I think I too had a worryingly tight connection through Vienna once, made it. but I was fretting and running.....not nice to get stressed out like that. Connections from LHR... do ANY flights leave on-time from there, it has not been my experience?
  11. That and the fact they have now taken bulldozers to the crash site to clear it! Just watched an interview of the Iranian Ambassador to the UK and smells guilty to me!

    Baht

Yeah, 600 baht better. Living here I tend to transfer bigger amounts than £2000.... I would not be overly concerned to lose 600 baht and use the very straightforward and simple SWIFT option of my UK bank, and I assure you it has been free. (And ALWAYS gets the much loved 'TT' designation immigration require.) The TW claim You could save up to 41.39 GBP vs the average bank is not the case for me, about 15 GBP. What has changed?
  14. Again....10th Jan 2020 1pm.

Yes, it is really not the advantage I recall from past use.... when it means I am using an extra '3rd party'.... with no guarantees ??? My previous calculation took advantage of a lagging update downwards (from BB) which for sure I would not have achieved. But 2000 baht in 400,000.... is not worth the extra steps I have to take. I need to move the Sterling between my UK accounts, as one does not allow Transferwise to pull the money in real time and my Debit Card would be my only option, limited amount and more expensive.. Thanks for your input.
  16. Plenty of reports this morning that it was an Iranian missile that brought the aircraft down. Video appears to show the moment a missile hit the Ukrainian passenger plane that crashed in Iran https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/09/tehran-crash-plane-downed-by-iranian-missile-western-officials-believe

That was what I saw on a 10k transfer... and I only really noticed it because I was comparing how much I received between my bank using a Swift, and TW. I was initially surprised that the numbers were pretty close...in the past TW made it a no brainer. Now I was reticent to involve a 3rd party for a small benefit. I might add my bank does the SWIFT for free (well they used to....haven't used them for a year). Also someone mentioned TW were due to increase their charges. I might have been caught also by an old Bangkok Bank rate, it was early here and before they updated. Just tried it again... 10,000 GBP will get me 392,919 baht on TW (58.90 GBP Fee) NB Not using a debit card! If I SWIFT to Bangkok Bank 39.33250baht/GBP = 393325-500 baht= 392825 baht . I do not see the benefit beyond TW rate being locked in.
  18. Yes, there will be lumps of concrete for my bike to bump over from it very soon. We won't be getting rain, but there will certainly be foot traffic. What sort of market will it be, a dry or wet one?
  19. Darn I got lucky, was there Tuesday and road still open. Was it closed or, as before, all traffic into the RH (heading towards Suk) lanes. Then you get someone parking in-front of their shop or a baht bus picking up and dropping off.... what fun!
  20. Not sure about that. In this case it would be a short range SAM, not the same as the ones that came a long way for the airbases. Also fired from nearby and in the air a very short time. Wrong to speculate, but quite a coincidence!

Yes, I even had a MP girl who seemed to grasp the gist of the problem talk to me recently. (While bemoaning bad business... she failed to notice the extra 3 or 4 kilos she had packed on!). Chinese 'investment'... optimistically put, it is a take-over! I have better hopes for Baht/£, I think it will settle just above 40 soon.... I hope it hurries up, I have a few expensive items I need to buy, and it is going to have to be in Thailand. I just looked at Transferwise as they had become my usual way of sending money here. The advantage they had seems to be nearly dissolved, their charges have gone up. I would rather go SWIFT (or whatever) straight from my bank if Transferwise only shows a slight benefit.

Pal, I just looked up your old 'Bust' thread. You started it April 2008! At this rate and my current age, perhaps it is something I need not fret over.
  24. Well when I boarded that ancient 777 BA used to use I was wondering if bits falling off might be the technical issue. Maybe Lufthansa would be safe too!
