  1. My brother visited last year. Loves German food so Naklua restaurants were going to be a treat. He ordered Nuremburg Sausages with German potato salad. I should steered him to the Brats as i thought the price was a bit low. "Bill, they are fucking hot dogs!" And not very good ones. Redemption came later with 1/2 roast duck, dumplings ,potato and Red Cabbage. 499baht.
  2. No, guilty conscience, thanks Jacko. You well explained the value of the OA. I missed it being good for 2 years. Not sucking up but that visa was an excellent solution. Hassle free for 4 years. The Thai consulate in DC must be wondering why there are no more OA apps anymore. Even if BCBS insurance wants to help they could not fill out the form. Plus the Thais want a rubber stamp on the form . I doubt BCBS has had a rubber stamp since the 1950's . My friend in Bangkok is an agent in Bangkok. I'll let him sort it.
  3. I have an OA., That goes away because of the health insurance. I have excellent health insurance but cant prove it because of the form the Thais want. I have more than 65,000 baht/month income but direct deposit has halted with a change in banking laws in the USA I cant prove it I know about and use transferwise. No guarantee the transfers show as international. So i legally am well qualified but am pushed to an agent or less likely the Thai elite card. My visa cost go from 3000baht a year to 30,000. I know my choice but do not want the hassle of 800,000 in a bank then proving its still ther
  4. Sin, if you dont mind , where are you staying? I am happy here at at Northpoint but rent 20,000, wifi 1300, electric 2000 for a studio. My visa costs will go from 3000 /year to 30,000 and possible much more. My choice as with the OA I dont have any extension or bank issues. And dont want any.  But with the insurance change that visa goes away so looking to offset. I looked at Pattaya Hill, Star beach on the realty website. Good reviews, Need a good pool as i swim every day. Any thoughts appreciated, Bill.

  5. Makes me want to order from Tequila Reef tonight. Didnt know Frog refers to French, had to look that up. Still not clear why we are Septics.
  6. Arrive at the parking lot. , 2 large tents. Do not go to one on the left. Huge lines ,not moving . On the right there is a line for a visa more than 10 deep. Go around or through them and directly to the 90 day desk no lines. Get a number and every several minutes they come out calling numbers with your passport. In at 9:10, out at 9:20.
  7. Thanks for the update, doing a 90 day this week.,Lazy and didnt try online. Im O A but dont have to deal with it until September
  8. Same for me. I was missing crabbing and fishing on the Chesapeake. Thought get a small boat and one more summer. I have a house in Annapolis so easily done. But 20+ hours on a plane and the possibility of being stuck in Maryland over the winter. No chance. Maybe next year.
  9. Funny you should mention that. I only go to WS and Diana with friends visiting from the US. Woke this morning to the Thai girl cleaning my condo . Was thinking if i do throw in with her a house may be the way to go. I have a small bike and only go to Villa or Foodland . I live directly on the beach now but probably havn't touch the sand in several months.
  10. Thanks Biggles, thats the plan.I have a friend in Bangkok who is an agent. I'll just let him deal with it but will still cost me. The virus has me worried about leaving and not getting back in with changes happening so fast . Was planning on meeting with friends in Angeles last week but bailed. A real shame ,the O-A, only $200usd , useful for 2 years, no money in a Thai bank and even though he is a friend , no agents.
  11. My visa costs will be going up 10-20x because of the insurance rule , have an o-a. Im moving to Pratumnak or Jomtien in April so also interested in suggestions. I pay 20,000 a month at Northpoint . Looks as i might be able to pay 10-15k in Pratumnak I swim every other day so as Gary says a well maintained pool is essential.
  12. TIT, you never know.A couple years ago i was fined 1600 for not reporting my return from the US. Never happened again About a month ago on a 90 day report,i was directed to the dreaded room 10.I just left. After posting here a BM advised to put my TM 30 in my passport. Went back to Jomtien and the same lady looked at the 30 and issued my 90 day.
  13. Yes Mityon. Pond from the Beer Garden pointed me to an older fellow on Pattaya South road. He took good care of me initially and the following year with the tax stamp and service..He saw me lusting at the CBR and gently said a Click may be more appropriate to my needs. Just going to Villa market.
  14. Butch, i have taken to just stopping and let them walk around me. Let them figure it out. Not at all aggressive , just indicating i would't want to accidentally bump them. I thought when i moved here, "don't be one of those grumpy old men. Not working as planned but i do try to control it. It comes from most BM's have lived our lives giving and expecting civility ,manners and even deference unless dealing with a jerk.
  15. There is the American Tavern in Bangkok. I have posted before my favorite place. After Scott passed his girlfriend took over but not really interested . The bar was for sale and I not having business experience was hoping some one else would save it . i said ok, price 800,000. Fine. But then Key money put it over a million. Im like what is Key money?. Im not familiar with Thai arrangements. Then there were "other payments." . The stop for me was dealing with a landlord , previous owner was Thai, I am not. Flag on the field.
  16. I know we are straying here but visited my Thai Girlfriend in Nom Phong, asked where are the Buffalos?. They were every my last visit. no one owned a car or a tractor. Now the Buffalos are gone and everyone owns a Kabota tractor. They family has given up on farming except 50 bags of rice for the extended family. The kids own trucks for transport business.
  17. Many years ago i was pulled aside at US immigration , frequent visits to Thailand.. He called for an officer witness and wanted to see the pictures on my camera. After looking at 50 pictures of the Tiger Zoo and my 40 y/o girlfiend he sent the observer off. I worked for the government and we talked about our investment account. Also talked how many of these slime bags do you catch. , only 1 or 2 in six months. I have never been stopped since. Probably a notation in my profile now.. "If you want boring pictures and conversation , stop this guy".
  18. Many hotels in the LK area. When i'm out on a tear i leave my bike at Pasadena Lodge overnight rather than dragging my love back to Naklua. 600/800 baht a night. but no pool. Near Jibbys across from Billabong. You will get many other suggestions. If you want a pool Areca is a good choice. Go past the front desk to the second desk at Evergreen. Ask the lady for a 800 baht room but it is basic. Normal price is 1600 baht for pool view. The lady will stare at you like she doesn't understand. Stare back and she will give you a key. As to the Motor taxi you dont need 2. You sit behind
  19. Update and thanks to the Board on my "confusion" . Totally different experience today. Arrived 0815, line out the door but moving quickly. Line out the door at room 10 . 23 people ahead of me at the 90 day desk but also moved quickly . Same IO .The people directed to room 10 seemed confused and took time asking questions. I thought wait until they see room 10. Force you nailed it! She was most interested in the TM30. Stapled it in my passport. "You stay same place ' Yes 2 years. The 90 slip comes out of the computer. Out the door 08:50. No fine for my failure to report return from t
  20. Thanks Guys, not late but due Monday. I think it may be the Tm 30 . I have lived in the condo for 2 years and the Real Estate company filed Tm30 with both leases. Problem is most likely I did not report my return from the US in Sept. So I'll pay the fine and do online report if the site supports Chrome Books. Always appreciate the feedback and advice on this board.
  21. Yea thanks , Yes Jomtien, i dont get it . Have done many 90 days without this. Room 10 was packed out the door so maybe something yet again new. Ill return on Monday with my lease and TM 30. Just wondered if any one else encountered this. Ah Force missed your post , yes i will do this Monday. Most likely the problem. And Rhino ,Mail or online for me now on.
  22. Went to do a 90 day today and was handed a tm 47 which i filled out once when i first moved here but not since. Then the lady at the 90 day desk said to go to room 10 then come back. Room 10 was packed out the door. I did't get a number so it seemed a bit chaotic. A nice fellow in line glanced at my papers and said i probably don't have the right ones. He had a lease agreement. Rather than wait i went home and will return Monday with my lease and TM 30. Ive been here a couple years but this was new to me. Any guidance?
  23. Yes , i was thinking a walk along Jomtien walkway. Just not sure of the walk from Ban Suan or Pratnumak to the beach . I am going to get a driver for a couple hours to explore . Thought about taking my bike but since im not familiar with the area and my head will be on a swivel maybe not. I cannot walk from Northpoint to Pattaya. Cannot get around the rocks at Dusit. Shame, that would be a great walk .
  24. Mango, yes many nice 1 hour walks along the beach to Central Festival. Grab some corn fed US sandwich steak that you cant even get in the US since that grass fed crap is the rage back there . Always enjoy a walk and a swim. If it looks like i have to joust with the Soi Dogs on the way to the beach at Jomtien will just take the bike down.
