Question for Expats / Retirees
sailingbill replied to Butch's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I planned and could have retired at 60. My wife and i were going to divorce. But looking at the financials we decided to stay together, putting our kids through private schools and then helping them with college. I would be in Thailand 2-3 times a year. I retired at 65 in excellent health which i think should be a factor. As a result my pension, SSI, health insurance are much higher than the minimum i would have had earlier. Because of our support the kids did very well and have good employment in Engineering and Law. As a result i told them i was going to spend my 401k which originally they were to inherit. I have not been happier than ever in my life in he past 3 years of living here and no regrets on the delay. If not for Thailand i would have continued working until i dropped. I worked 3 days a week , 5 weeks leave time a year. why not? -
Every time im in Issan i do love it. In Nomphong we would walk around looking at farms.People would stop and offer us a ride. At first i was a little freaked about that . In America if some one offers a ride its probably trouble. She explained people just help each other here. The first girl from Roi Et had a job buying rice.for a co op .At first i thought that was good but being left alone sucked. During harvest season she sometimes worked 6 days a week. I wandered in the back and tried to feed the cows. They just looked at me like Thats close enough sucker. Came very close to buying an 80 acre farm in West Virginia. Moved here instead , no regrets.

Was in Nampong a few months ago. When we pulled in to the large uncles farm at night. . About 15-kids and adults on those elevated decks outside.. Large pots cooking on an open fire. I thought a little like a scene from Apocolayse Now No drinking, not good for me as im an alcoholic. A girl sitting next to me schooling a young man on filling out a job application. Family. Uncle saw my interest in the farm and gave me a tour. I thought damn i wish i could live here but cannot. As a boy i walked down my street with my shotgun on my shoulder on the way to the woods. If i tried it today there would be helicopters and swat teams.

Vpn another brilliant post. I was a young boy in a semi rural area. Safe handling of firearms was absolute. My son , Eagle scout and engineer, was well schooled in safety in the scouts. The ridiculous state programs teach nothing useful. sorry i know ot

Vp i loved that. Before i changed careers, more pussy in hospitals than in an office. I was an accountant. My mentor explained we make 3 sets of books. One for the bank showing we are doing well, one for the IRS showing we are losing money and one for the owners showing the real story. Not a public company so possible back then.

Wish i saw this earlier . Really wanted a burger and was staying at the Hyatt , saw Arnos but just went next door to the Mexican place. Will be back to Bangkok in 2 weeks and will try to get there.

Jacko , many Thais are pissed . We would still be in Remand

Jim the rude and crude have always been the most funny an accurate, they spoke the truth. Our Richard Pryor and the UK's Benny Hill. MM said Alice had moved to Bangkok.

Yes thanks, i visit the same places and should go back before the tourist return. Was at Crazy House and a stunning young lady came off the stage, i thought damn those lucky young guys but she came to me. A very good night LT 2000. Seldom could get a seat at Baccara. Is that angry old guy still at the door? The Rembrant hotel looks good, Consider Jasmine on 23. The rates were to high last year with the Japanese golf crowd but now 300 baht more than Rembrandt and a stumble away from Cowboy. Thanks again for posting, enjoyed your effort. Many i think are tiring of the covid post'

I think it was a rare occurrance . Had i gone with the 65,000 month for a Visa, i would have transferred early in the month. If it was not coded FTT i would have time to make another one. I have not heard of this happening again. No longer an issue for me. -

nkped, there were 2 reports(Thai Visa) that BBB codedTransferwise deposits as in country transfers. Reason was the funds were routed through Kasikorn then BBB. The felllow explained that didn't work for him,Transferwise said they couldnt help. Had not heard of a problem since then. I also read that Immigratio prefers a neat recurring pension though not required. The direct deposit is solved now that we do that as the guys in the PI have beed doing. I am just waiting for the mail service to start again and will send my SS and OPM forms to Manila. I never plan to leave Thailand so DirectDeposit is best for me. -

Gary as odd as it seems, Agents are legal in terms of the letter of the law. Spirit and intention of the law not, but TIT. It did seem BJ had planned to clean things up but we see how that went. I also have adequate Pension and Social Security so i do not want to leave 800,000 sitting in Bangkok Bank when i am happy with my 401k despite recent events. I have followed your posts' and appreciate talking about some of the difficult relationships you endured. It seems with your wife it was worth the wait. I have found a lady who seems very much the one. But i remember your admonishment that it takes awhile for the warts to come out. -
Bus/Van Pattaya to Sriracha?
sailingbill replied to aldriglikvid's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Let us know how it goes, i road down that way to replace tires on the bike only 10 km. Enough for me . Not so much the ride as the road construction and having someone on the back.. The hospital said the promotion is good until Friday. -
Bus/Van Pattaya to Sriracha?

I would like the For Work Package 3,500 baht with add on Cancer screening labs #5 1200 baht. Question is are these prices continuing, i will probably hire a driver for 1/2 day and wait so would an appointment be advisable? Seems other than getting the labs the waiting would be for the ABD USN. Also the CTA is 9700 baht. I should hear from the guy tomorrow
