  1. Jacko, you remind me of Cheshire Tom, Straight shooter , no bs. When you ask am if i am sure ?I listen A rental not buying. Should i reconsider? Why. What happened to CT? He stopped posting. Never met him and my loss.
  2. "With all this in mind, my last hotel break was with a lady so I asked her to use her identity card for check in. 'I was never there your honour'. " Atlas, i like this thanks. I have inadvertently started a LT relationship with a girl in Bangkok. My hotel bill was such i decided to get a condo there. I am not leaving Pattaya .Better for her close to work , i can come and go as i want. When i get back from US next month will put the condo in her name not mine. I do so much like girls that go to work in the morning.
  3. I'll continue with my plan to wander up there. Sorry to hear about your ordeal Jacko. Recently went to Jomtien on a Monday morning thinking "this is a bad idea". But completed the 90 day and an extension in an hour, returned the next day ,picked up the extension and a multi entry in less than an hour .No way to predict. If you fly out of Dulles in DC there is a phone app showing wait times on both the north and south TSA areas
  4. I made sure the realtor submitted my TM 30 and made copies. After i returned from the US last year i was fined 1600 thb at my 90 day because i did not check in within 24 hours after my return. I will be visiting again this week and returning in 3 weeks. I will stay in Bangkok for about a week when i return. My plan was to report to Jomtien within 24 hours of return to Pattaya and show my hotel reservation. Does anyone know do i still have to do this? My fine is 1 year old so maybe things have changed? My adress has never changed.
  5. JS, , this would be my plan if they stop the income option. Have you considered simply the 0-A visa from Washington or others. $200 , a medical and background check. You have nearly 2 years . Thanks Jacko (explained in a separate thread} Being 0500 and back from a bit of drinking i hope this is useful , maybe not.
  6. Jacko, thanks, i got it now .Much appreciated. I'm better off than i thought i was. Edit : Yes i will be obtaining the extension on retirement in Thaiand
  7. Somewhat OT but asking for advice from knowledgeable BM"s. I thought i understood the o-a visa but maybe not. I obtained my first oa in the States last year. It says enter before 8 August 2018. I arrived 25/8/2017. Returned to the US to visit and on return my immigration stamp from Swampy is written "admitted until 28 November 2018". I thought the enter by date on the O-A was the expiration date. I went Jomtien prepared for the extension in August and the officer pointed to the "M" and said i'm to early. I was a bit concerned so i did my 90 day the same day asking that officer if i under
  8. Nkped, the ability to make ACH transfers to Bangkok Bank stops on April 1
  9. Atlas, it is more like 20% , not the investment firm but US taxes. Also with the money invested in the stock market , the hit multiplies by lost earnings over time. I have zero money in interest earning account. In off to PCEC , I doubt anything new other than their mail. But if so i will post today post it today.
  10. Crap, i forgot about that. I have to withdraw $30000 to net $25000. $5000 going directly to the IRS and probably an additional small amount to Maryland.
  11. 'Hello John, There have been no reports of any requirement for Embassy income letter to be certified by a bank -- also, doesn't make any sense as the banks have nothing to do with it." This is from PCEC. They gather information from expats experiences at Jomtien, so that doesn't mean its not coming. I have never liked the 800,000 baht solution. I have adequate monthly income ,why leave this money in Thailand unable to invest it ? Also why create problems for my kids when i kick? Now if the current plans to end ACH and direct deposits to Bangkok Bank are implemented April 1 I may l
  12. I really enjoyed cycling to work in Baltimore. About 35km. I was angry driver and switching to cycling was a calming change. Thanks for the post, your photos remind me of similar scenery on my largely rails to trails ride. Maybe time to dust off the Cannondale and bring her back after my Thanksgiving trip.
  13. Sure i will ask and post updates .Actually the Thanksgiving visa thing won't work , I'm only back for 1 week.
  14. Thanks, Jacko. I'll be in the states for Thanksgiving holiday. Worst case i obtain a new O-A there. A real pain and expensive . Just panicked a bit. Ill be at the expats meeting Sunday
  15. Well this is unpleasant news. I go for my first retirement extension end of the month. Doubt i could get a proof of income from my bank/ US social security by then. Already have the income certificate from the US embassy. Really don't want to live in Cambodia
  16. On the hospital topic, i recently spent 7 days in Bumrungrad, no surgery. Total 216,495 THB Luckily my insurance covered 100% .
  17. I joined in 2006 and am still a rather junior member. Why?, because the forum as MM structured it has worked , Has usefulness over a long period . Members who live in Pattaya , finally on their first trip or married in Issan are still active after many years. Why merge? But really up to Frosty, See some of you at the Crawl on the 22cd, My second in 12yrs.
  18. Villa Market has them. I made a great Lasagna back in the US. Freeze portions and add a little fresh sauce. But living in condo's i have not seen an oven.
  19. Thanks guy , the above posts' make it clearer my best option which is keeping my US bank and ACH periodically to BB. I did use Scwab for my first two months and had my fees refunded but i doubt they would allow that long term. I read Garys account of getting kicked off a Citibank CC . I understand he didn't really care but for me i think best option for now is to continue with American accounts and do the transfers.
  20. Thanks, Bangkok bank has detailed information on the banks main site." Transferring funds to Thailand" . Appears i have 2 choices .Ach funds from my US bank to Bangkok Bank. I remember that process was discussed here years ago.I'll look for that thread. The other option is direct deposit my pension and social security to BB. For the direct deposit option i have to collect the funds in person or set up a another BB savings account to use an ATM. I'm not totally clear on the specifics or which choice would be better. I am in the Wong Amat area ,the Central Festival branch is pretty close so w
  21. Pretty much get screwed with withdrawal limits at 15,000 baht and 220 baht fee from my American account. I want to transfer my usa pension to Bangkok Bank I have Kasikorn and Siam Commercial accounts and very aware that the branch you deal with matters. What branch would be best to deal with?
  22. i just settled on a condo in Wong Amat Asked the realtor for for a copy of the lease which of course was no problem. But she said i needed to wait until she had the TM 30 before going to immigration
  23. I have Airbnb a condo in Bangkok for 2 months prior to deciding where l"ll stay long term. Just be aware many condo buildings do not allow for short term stay. Not sure about the Base. Just use caution if the ad indicates things like "If you have any problems DO NOT ask for help with condo staff". There are several notices in my building indicating less than 1 month rentals are illegal. My experience with airbnb was overall very good.
  24. Im using Hipflat when in Bangkok ,but they have a Chonburi seach also. Multiple agencies with map or list views. In Bangkok they also list the # of meters to the nearest BTS . In checking Pattaya it seems you guys have lot more choices than the View Talays of old.. I haven't been back in a few years, thinking I need to plan another visit.
  25. Fortunate that i have been healthy , my last primary care doc was a pediatrician. Now in my 60's im seeing issues. Nothing to keep me off Soi 6, but appreciate what to expect cost/quality/insurance. Downloaded the preferred providers list and was surprised Bumrungrad was not on the Bangkok list. Best advice was from a BM some time ago , he was in an Icu in Bang Chang or Rayong , advised having a high limit CC , the federal BCBS will reimburse before the CC bill hits.
