  1. Back in the day I would have agreed. I am now 30 minutes off, 30 minutes off.
  2. But then you would have had to stay up later, maybe still libido deprived.
  3. 2 bucks for an American breakfast is good.
  4. Wayne Rooney pleads guilty. Asks not to be given community service (he says he does enough for charity already). Is given 100 hours of community service. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4488435/wayne-rooney-guilty-banned-driving-court-drink-driving-rap-laura-simpson-latest
  5. The guy clearly needed to be sent home. He looked terrible. Not a fan of Kiss. Ate there maybe twice as it was close to where I stayed.
  6. A good point. There are some real head scratchers. Crystal Palace has not even scored a goal. Right now 8 teams at or within a point of the bottom 3. Huddersfield, Burnley and Newcastle doing better than I expected but it's early. Just the first month.
  7. Didn't get the Chelsea/Arsenal match here in the States which was disappointing. Manchester United must get better ratings.
  8. I never read that one but I have always thought the amount of farang suicide by balcony was far out of proportion to what common sense would expect. So, I am an expat, I ran out of money. So what? I go home and get myself sent to the USA. No worse of in warm spots in USA than in LOS. LOS is great if you have money. The western world is better if you are poor. I suspect that either barfine with a boyfriend who helps you over the ledge or your teelack has a bf who helps you and oops sorry was shooting for the pool. skipped, he didn't know there was a pool.
  9. I usually do not write long reviews on movies. Typically I just sort of give it a thumbs up or down with minimal comments. "First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers" is an exception to that. The movie is available on streaming Netflix but not yet on disc from Netflix. https://dvd.netflix.com/Movie/First-They-Killed-My-Father/80067522?strackid=3e5bd37552768f09_1_acomplete http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4882376/?ref_=nv_sr_1 The movie is about the Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia in the mid 1970's. It is based on a book by Loung Ung and the main character is a young girl named Loung. The movie was directed by Angelina Jolie and so it is filmed in an American style while all of the dialogue is Khmer (subtitled). The main actress is I would guess 10 or 11 at the time of filming. Her name is Sareum Srey Moch. The actor who plays her father is a tremendous actor. His name is Phoeung Kompheak. The movie was shot in Siem Reap province from what I saw in the credits. The final scene takes place on one of the smaller ancient temple complexes north of Siem Reap, which at this time I cannot identify. It is the Cambodian counterpoint to the western "The Killing Fields". The Killing Fields was important in its time. This movie is important lest we not forget and so we understand the nature of what occurred (the point of the book and movie). The movie is over two hours long but it is never boring. It takes you from the entry of Khmer Rouge forces into a city, forcing all citizens to leave to the country for re-education. It shows how ruthlessly organized the Khmer Rouge were. In its ruthlessness there is an incredible organization under force of arms which starts with the seizing of arms from the population. Those who worked for the previous government are on a death list if discovered, hence the title. The movie goes from forced labor under starvation conditions to using children as weapons of war. If you know or think you know Cambodia, this is a movie worth watching. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. I watch a lot of film so I notice small flaws, hence almost nothing gets a five from me. With a trip coming up for me to Siem Reap, I am really glad I was able to see this film. It put human faces on history which The Killing Fields only put a heroic face on one particular character and seemed too simplistic by comparison. The Khmer Rouge in one manner or another killed 25% of the Cambodian population. It is amazing what a minority in power can do when it has absolute power. Some of the behavior by the Khmer Rouge included the humiliation of monks (parasites) and to cut the heads off of Buddha statues, the latter is something echoed today by the Taliban and ISIS.. MLC
  10. Imports. Tax it at the point of entry. Thai products. Tax it at the point of production. That reduces the amount of separate taxations that need to be dealt with. Bars, restaurants and shops don't have to bother with the time and expense to collect the tax. They will pass the increase given to them by the wholesaler onto the consumer and it simplifies everyone's life. Beer Chang. How many bottling plants? How many distributors to consumers? Government will be busy for sure and small business have to spend time dealing with this, another added cost. K.I.S.S. The other side of this is that sin taxes will end up keeping money from being spent. Most people do not have unlimited budgets. So perhaps, if your goal is to keep citizens in a nation from consuming alcohol and tobacco you will have an effect but in tourist frequented establishments, customers will buy less beer so that they spend roughly what they would have spent otherwise. However, they will actually pay the establishment less. Let us say for the sake of argument that the following are the numbers (they are not of course. simplified for the example) 1. Say there is no tax. 1 beer costs 200 baht. The customer buys three beers. The establishment's revenue is 600 baht. 2. Say there is a 10% tax. 1 beer now costs 220 baht. The customer cannot afford 660 baht for three beers and only buys two. The establishment's revenue is 440 baht of which 40 baht goes to the government. It may seem extreme to high rollers but many many tourists are on a budget. The law will hurt tourism by reducing sales. A shame. I was looking forward to going to the Wine Shop. The two bottles I was hoping to buy is likely down to one bottle, if this is the law in January. 110 baht per bottle of imported wine? I need to save some baht for my massages. Why is the wine tax more than hard liquor? Does Thailand have a cottage wine industry? The climate is not really suited for it. (I saw 4 wineries around Bangkok. 3 NE and one south. Is the wine good?)
  11. Um, what is your record on what will be the game of the weekend? We should keep score. I have it as 0-1 but may have missed previous prognostications prior to last week.
  12. Your quote of me was blank and I am not sure what I said before, sorry.
  13. edit: for me to mmob
  14. I am beginning to think we have a new troll.
  15. yes, close to ten dollars for a pork chop, fries and tiny salad seems a bit high but it did look good. Perhaps if I am walking by. It is close to where I am staying and I also want to check out the wine shop in that plaza. Good report.
  16. This probably does you no good but I am pretty sure that Whole Foods and others sell leaves as well as bages. I am pretty sure many stores carry it but I am not a tea drinker so my knowledge is limited.
  17. I have never been to Sugarbaby but will make it a point to spend some part of an evening there in January. Congratulations and the best of luck going forward.
  18. Yes for that genre of character it was handled in a way that was not cliche. It was available on a Starz free week. I won't go out of my way to watch season two. I think I liked it a bit more than you did. It had some interesting moments. The use of gods across numerous pantheons was an interesting concept. Without McShane it would not have been a very good show. I was not really a fan of his in the Lovejoy days but he grew on me. Was really great on Deadwood.
  19. I was curious where this is located. Is it in Naklua?
  20. Point Blank
  21. I meant to hit the green and hit the red by mistake. Someone help fix my error please! TY It was a great post Yujin. Sorry for my mistake. I owe you a greenie.
  22. That looks so HOTTTTTTTTTTT! No wonder so many Heinies.
