I have been around a bit but now travel up front whenever I can. But in economy??? To me KLM is the absolute worst for dishing up the booze with Lufthansa a bad second. 1. Get on an airline that serves bottles of wine and not glasses ( BA, Olympic) ANYMORE???? That way you can ask for 3 each time and stackem in the pouch in front. 2. A cheap airline is good because they tend to leave the inexperienced in charge of the bar when everybody else is sleeping. 3. Take a book with you. You don't have to read it!! But if you sit quietly turning pages the booze will flow no questions asked!! 4. Don't stand in the aisle drinking...it is obvious, and they don't like it! Yes it is Crass and bad for your health, but it once led me into joining the REAL Mile High club ( i.e sex with a stranger not partner)

1. I had a bad rep in BKK + CM due to my drinking excesses..Nobody knows me here so it's a fresh start. 2. Farang food that is not rice or Fufu ( African maize stodge) 3. Soooo many bars. This is my natural habitat. 4. Filling up with seafood from Naklua market to take up coutry.. 5. Eating Lobster + drinking wine with my beautiful Thai wife.

The indian accross the road from the main entrance to Nova Lodge and up the stairs...Absolutely fucking disgusting, stale, re heated, tasteless, burnt, blackened stodge. Served by a surly ( what looked Pino) waitress who refused to switch off the western disco boom boom music untill we threatened to walk out and then continued serving by basically throwing the dishes and plates on the table! Do not go in there!! My wife and I much prefer the indian on Beach road nearer Soi 10. They need to improve their wine list but don't hold your breath cos I have been telling them that since they opened around 6 years ago!!.

The revolving restaurent at the top of the Pattaya tower. I only went there once, don't know if it is still open or even exists now, but when I went in '97 it was bloody aweful food. NEVER NEVER AGAIN!!!

Over the years I have sat quietly in bars listening to the most obnoxious bunch of wankers that "Own" bars... Most of the worst ones are fucking arrogant English bastards ( Um, I am English). The best owner I have ever met being the owner of Angelwitch when it was a one small shoplot in NEP. He has scraped me off the floor many times!! I am a new member to this forum but FLB and Cherry Bar have definately won me over and are on my list to visit next time in Patts in December. If you talk sense and are not full of bullshit you have my full support!! But it might be the Devil's curse cos I am not necessarily a good customer! Good Luck mate!

Welcome back! I started a Driving Lesson thread some time ago and received the following usefull reply. I know you are only interested in some bike refresher but maybe this could be a starting point. "Yes ! I found a place where you can take driving lessons. The school is located in Naklua. Coming from Pattaya it's on the left side about 100 meter before the (old) market. The name is (translated from Thai): Naklua School Driving Car. The owner / instructor is a friendly man of (say 25) years, speaks reasonable English and his name is Bright. He can be contacted on 01 428 4429. There are various schedules for lessons available, but I booked for a kind of a refresher course which costs me 3000 Baht for 10 hours. This also includes assistance to obtain a Thai Driving License. There are (at least) 2 cars available: a Mitsubishi Trident and a Isuzu D-Max. The latter has double brakes and clutch. I was assured that both cars had full insurance coverage and during lessons the instructor was liable for 'damage'. Tomorrow at 12.00 hours I will get my first lesson. So if you hear shortly after twelve a big bang than you know .....

Hi Mate, I will be staying there for a few nights in December. If no one gives an update before then PM me and I will do another reply. I used to stay there regularly. The price booking through Asia rooms is good for this hotel. The location is ideal accross the road from the beach and therefore also easy for the baht bus.It is across the road from the bar action and English pubs.Very near TOPS. It has a nice garden area, average pool, one English and one German restuarent and a crazy golf setup. I am told that the Zeppelin does excellent food. Buffet breakfast is OK but repetetive. Bad points are the rooms, basically the hotel is run down and there are no lifts. Some rooms on the top floor have leaks. I have no idea about joiner fees. Regarding Songkran, I will book after my December trip. This December trip is a recce to find and book the best hotel for my needs during Songkran/Easter as I will be flying my sons and my 85yr old Mother out for the holiday. My sons are LOS vets but my Mother is a newbie!! My choice from Songkran is from. - Nova Lodge ( unlikely) - Sunshine Vista ( maybe) - Markland ( maybe) - Sabai Lodge new wing ( very likely) Hope this helps.

Hi Mr Toom, I was going to PM you but then thought that other BMs might want to know aswell. What is the price for renting a car AND DRIVER for a day? Lets say from 0700 to 1900 ( 12 hours) to and from Nova Lodge. On 18 Dec I have to spend the day in BKK so the driver should know BKK quite well, although my wife and I can help give directions. I am the sort of person that buys flights immediately I get the whim...I wouldn't dare wait too long for something so important. I have already booked and paid for my sons and Mother to fly to LOS Easter / Songkran next year. I have got caught in the past and ended up paying through the nose with KLM. Monitor seat availability using www.amadeus.net regularly.

I bought into Nova Mirage, Naklua off plan at 32,000 psm... due to finish end 2007. This is not a fair comparrison of course as mine is only on the 6th floor and not as well located.

It obviuosly depends on what you find important in a flight and whether you fly business or economy. But I put Gulf in the top 3.
