  1. Hi Mate, Kamphaeng cetainly has some old ruins which I intend to go around when I am back in April. There are also waterfalls in an easy drive away. The last time we were there a wild monkey attacked us ( I have to admit that I ran away with my beer + let Mama fight it off with a stick). I am putting the family up in the Phet Hotel which has a nice bar outside with live music.. We are near Tamakluah. I don't know too much about the expats in KPPT because Mrs Bullfrog and I have been in West Africa for a couple of years + taking home trips every 3 months...However I have a very good Kiwi friend of over ten years who lives in Pichit and we get together whenever we are home. Also whilst in Africa we met many Thais who live in the area including one married to a Dane that has a house very near us. All in all things are looking up for me and the area and people here are totally different than when I lived in Issan.. Hi Mate, I am not quite sure where this is, can you give the nearest large town? Water is important. When I lived in Issan it was pumped up from underground. and can get a bit "mucky + green" at the wrong time of year and the only option for washing is captured rain water or Thai washroom which can be effing cold in the winter. Believe me when I say living like this for several years is alot more difficult than a couple of months holiday...
  2. 1. Where up country are you talking about??? 2. Is the land town centre, village with road or track access, village with no road access? 3. Does it have utilities ( water/electricity) already available or can be installed? I am building a house between Kamphaengphet and Nackon Sawan. It is village with road access and water and electricity avilable.( Water was only plumbed into the village last year. I will be back in April and maybe I will post photos and an overall cost. I can then PM you with more detailed costs if you wish... BTW this is my second house and marriage in LOS....The first was a disaster in Issan!!!
  3. Sorry for the late update...Yep I stayed there for a few days over Xmas, yep the location is still excellent and YEP! The rooms are still shit and I will never stay there again....
  4. I am also sure that he is refering to Sabai Resort. I went in there over Xmas to do a Recce for my families visit in April. I was VERY impressed with the bungalows at the back and the other swimming pools seemed OK too. Unfortunately they couldn't guarantee me at the time that the bungolows would be open in time so I booked into Sabai Wing. Anyway the contact address I used for booking either Sabai lodge or Sabi Resort is this. Sabai Lodge [sabailodge99@csloxinfo.com]
  5. I have lived and worked around Asia for 17 years and concur with all of the above statements but would like to add a couple of points. 1. Whilst living in Singapore my ex Thai wife was verbally abused and propositioned regularly by taxi drivers but she just phoned me each time and they backed off. 2. Whilst in Malaysia my Pino GF was often given the same treatment by the Indian faction of the Malay Police force. 3. Depending on where you live and work in KL, traffic at rush hour ( what an oxymoron!) can be bloody awefull and on a par with BKK when the BTS system was being built for those that remember!!! 4. Totally agree with expats in HK being right up there own asses. 5. Has your mate thought about Beijing or Shanghai? If he speaks Thai, Mandarin will be pretty easy to pick up..I managed it and I am a thick Dorset farmer!!!
  6. Well it depends on what you want to get out of it and what you are willing to risk to acheive that aim. I was willing to give my life to see my wife of 8 years standing in front of the judge in Surin squirming. I acheived my aim ( obviously without getting killed - YET) with an amount of money I could afford.
  7. I did mate and have never been back since. I also think he was mentioned in another thread for having been arrested
  8. Well it has been edited out...Must of been one of my drunken wanker mails!! Anyway, I hate it when you agree with the owner or Bar Manager to watch a certain footie match on the TV...Sit there spending money for a couple of hours building up to the BIG GAME when his mate comes in and persuades him to change it so you are left wandering the streets at kick off trying to find a bar with it on. This happened to me one afternoon in Cosy Bar Soi 2 / Soi 3 years ago when I wanted to watch Thailand in the Tiger Cup...BTW good on FLB to have the final on in Dec!!!!
  9. Hi Mate, It depends on how much you want to pay and how difficult your problems are. I used Htoosi in BKK for my divorce procedings. My divorce was very involved and therefore very expensive but I would recommend them for the more difficult cases. http://www.htoosi.com/
  10. Anybody know Thai Name???
  11. What is the name of the "Lady in Red" I am sure I recognise her from my Surin days!!
  12. I have travelled on all three airlines long haul, in both economy and business class. All cabin crew seem to have gone to the same BA school of ignorance so there is only a small difference between them but I put AF just ahead of the others...KLM is the only airline that has ever refused to serve me any more alchohol...and LH once had a fucking argument with me cos I wanted white wine with my meat dish!!!! So my conclusion is choose your airline dependent on price, airport convenience and length of any stopovers...Also check which ones are Star Alliance, this way you will have more choices if things go wrong. I would also like to share a word of advice I received from KLM...If you book a special meal you are less likely to be bumped off if the flight is over subscribed. Also if you are travelling cabbage class wear a shirt and ask if you can be SUP'd when you check in.( Suitable for Upgrade)
  13. Yeh..but too many gold shops for the TW to check out!!
  14. There is nothing so overated as a bad blowjob and nothing so underated as a good shit!! So I always go for a flight with a couple of hours stop over to have a good relaxing crap in a shitter with room. This is then followed by a good shower ( I always fly business) and a few free half pints of port on ice!!!
  15. If I am going to the airport I NEVER use these taxis!! They are flagged down as they enter Patts or hang around waiting for a fare. 1. There is no guarantee that even though you have paid the stall holder that they will get a taxi at the right time for your flight ( if at all). 2. There is no guarantee on the state of the driver. He could be pissed up after an overnight wait in Patts or could be tired after having just driven down from BKK also having driven all day around BKK.This has happened to me and we nearly crashed several times. 3. There is no guarantee on the state of the car. I have had one trip with no aircon. I have had one trip where there was no fuel in the car before leaving and we were already late for my flight. Haven't you ever seen a broken down BKK Taxi on the way to the airport!!! - If you are catching a flight don't save a couple of hundred baht and miss it...or even get killed. - If you are going to BKK for the day and back, hire Mr Toom's driver for the day. They are based in BKK and can shuttle you anywhere you want.
  16. If Leeds UTD had somehow fluked their way to the final then these would be the best seats in the house for me to watch the game!!!
  17. I noticed you had problems with Sabai..I have been communicating with them fine and have booked up 3 rooms in Sabai wing for 3 weeks in April.. Try sabailodge99@csloxinfo.com
  18. I quite agree, I flew Thai business class direct to Jo'burg and it was OK...but if I pay a business class fare I expect better than OK. I only flew Thai because that was all that was available for my onward connection. Definately flying Emirates business class back!!!
  19. What I particularly like is that you get a jug of gravy and can add what you want where you want. Unfortunately there was no Argentinian red or Bass available when I visited around 4 Jan. These have been my two favourite tipples on previous visits. I chose an alternative wine that was probably better though. I normally sit at the bar and strike up conversations with others and have ALWAYS enjoyed this aspect of the bar. Unfortunately Mrs Bullfrog insisted on sitting at a table so that litle pleasure was curtailed! I will definately take my Mother and sons in there when they come Easter.
  20. Excellent idea Bloody stupid idea Excellent idea Bloody stupid idea I don't mean the comments in this thread but my own thoughts that I go through every bloody week. I have purchased two units off plan at Nova Mirage in Naklua in farang name. Last week I saw similar units in the completed block on sale for far more than I am paying ( I signed up just under a year ago) but then you read about the visa changes and other embuggerances and curse the day you ever signed!!!
  21. I have just purchased my third new car. One in BKK, One in Surin and One in Kamphaengphet. All were from Toyota dealers and each had a period of one to two months grace on red plates. The latest is 41 days. I have always understood the reason for not being allowed to drive at night on red plates was the difficulty in recognising the plate identification letters and numbers in the dark.
  22. Aha! but not in the emergency exit seats!! Yes there is more leg room, but they equally limit alcohol in those seats!!!
  23. When my sons visit, a trip to the Pig & Whistle and Rosies is always done. The breakfast at Rosies is top nosh.
  24. Thanks Jack, I am buying into 2 studios in building B which is the new wing being built at right angles to the existing one that houses the restuarent. Building C is opposite at the rear. Any observations, opinions and advice will be greatly appreciated!
  25. Hi Mate, What is the score with Nova Mirage ? Is building on going? Is anything being built near to it.....???
