stevoman is correct, it is time to invest in a digital tuner dongle. Stick it in your computer via usb and it turns your computer into a digital video recorder. Getting it to your tv can be troublesome tho. I suggest getting a dvd player with a usb socket that will play div-x /mpeg 4 files back. That way you can transfer your tv recordings via a flashdrive to your dvd player quickly and easily. re:fixing......start by taking the cover off. You will need to keep the power on so avoid the High voltage side or youll kill yourself. The actual mechanism side will be lower voltage. In

It will be a tape roller that has either jumped out of place or worn so much that it is not holding the tape on the track. This will in turn make the tape damaged or/and hit the recording drum at the wrong angle. If you know what to look for you could fix yourself. The good news is that your original recorded material may be salvagable...but newly recorded stuff will never be ok. First thing is STOP using the machine or youll ruin everything. Borrow someone elses machine and transfer all your important tapes onto DVD. use this device...its cheap and easy to use http://cg

Many Sellers in pattaya are now displaying signs that they do not accept 1000baht notes. Bangkok post says the tell-tale sign is a fake watermark that you CAN see without holding it up to the light. The original also has an embossed feel of the 1000 number. It will be dark areas they try to pass these off i.e nightclubs etc. Thankfully we cant really get these in our spending change but i wouldnt trust money exchanges 100percent so best to check if your exchanging your cash.

I know its a bit "british common sense" but try these: Ask the touts outside the price of your chosen drink before you go in! Check every bin that comes to you! Ask ladies what they will drink and find out the cost. (ask service if youre embarrassed to ask lady). its only business remember. Physically "say" the note denomination youre giving her when check bin. AND obviously actually count your change and dont just skim over it. We have all been there and been caught out......its OUR fault tho for not being more aware and not them for pulling a fast one (whet

What is the procedure for renewing motobike license sticker
vidman replied to jackcorbett's topic in Expat Issues
This is why the third road insurance places are better....they only take an extra 50baht AND they will have your sticker back in approx 2 days depending on when they do the "run". (they do a collected amount at once) -
It has been opened for at least 5weeks. The refurb looks like a total gut-out of all the rooms with new windows etc. They took their time on it but i knew they would re-open for high season. No idea on costs tho.

Taxi From Bangkok Airport To Pattaya Dec 29th-08
vidman replied to louisxxxiii's topic in Meeting - Cost sharing
I have flown in on dec 30 a few times (old airport) and it used to be hell trying to get anyone to take you to patts.....and when you did get a taxi..they wanted stupid money like 2500. i have no idea whether they will pull the same trick on your date. What your best bet is to book someone before hand. (probably cost 1000-1200). -
What is the procedure for renewing motobike license sticker
vidman replied to jackcorbett's topic in Expat Issues
There are a lot of insurance shops in 3rd rd (past tot) that will do all the running about to the vehicle reg place.....all for about 50baht. For all you with a bike over 7years, you can go to the garage on sukumvit (between pat klang and pat nua) northbound. Cant remember the name but it looks like a normal UK MOT garage (with a small office at the back)...they will test the bike, get insurance and sticker etc very very cheaply. -
The obvious one would be the hilton in Patong although i dont know their joiner fee. When you get a taxi/minibus to the resort , all the drivers act as touts for hotels etc. (some even stop at small travel shops beforehand) Work out your budget and then let them know what you want. We all know they get some commission but it will probably come off the hotels end and not yours.

I once took the girlfriend's whole family (distant cousins and all) over to Lao (friendship bridge and onto vietianne for day trip). On the way back over the bridge i hadnt noticed they had bought a shit load of Lao whisky. Well the thai border customs stopped them (as they had went ahead somewhat). The joke was on me when i followed a few minutes later and the family were pointing to me saying whisky for him. Confused i said nothing. Just a sort of shoulder shrug. With that the customs guy comes to me and the girlfriend and says "if you love thailand and thai people you will buy Th

Our baby is getting bigger ....
vidman replied to SunnyValentine's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Would it really kill some bar owners to make a pattaya talk discount card for regulars. Wholesale a heineken is 33baht......thats over 210percent profit on your standard price. -

Never mind mirage...should have called it optical illusion.......the photos make it look huge. I always wonder why bars price all the beers differently. Am i not correct in thinking they are mostly the same price from the wholesalers? Better you keep all the beers under the 100baht mark. Are you in this for a quick buck then die a death or are you in it for the long run? With the shitty pound now hovering around 50baht it makes your heineken £2.10. Thailand aint quite the value it used to be eh!!!!! Someone else mentioned on another thread that the bars that will survive these econom -
Dont expect big replies to this thread as i tried to start a similar one a while back. It seems all the mongers keep their ST joints secret (or they just take back to their hotel) The ones i have spotted are Love inn (near soi bongkot) (famous) PS house in soi yamoto small joint a few doors north of tim gogo (2nd rd) 2 places on left of soi chaiyapoon (acrsoo maggie mays) Used to be 1 beside soi happy but they changed their sign (good reports too)

Pattaya Beer Garden – Growing Pains
vidman replied to PattayaPete's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
If you look back at my original post to you Pete on practically the first day you opened, you will see that i could see that the restuarant side was gonna be a huge success!!!!!!!! Unfortunately i know nothing about running a kitchen so i cant solve any of your problems. You need to attack this problem by finding the busiest restuarant in Pattaya and seeing what system they use and compare it to yours. As in everything Pete...dont try to re-invent the wheel as its already invented. The answer is out there...you just need to find it. Sorry cant be more help. I can only help with key -
I have spent new year in Pattaya for the last few years and every year it gets worse. The show at bali-hai is poor and they never get the countdown right. Add this to the insane crowd trying to get thru the arch back to walking st and its a recipe for disaster. This year im looking at khosan rd in bkk. I hear good things about the atmosphere and will post a report to let you all know how it was. vid

Cats Corner - 2nd anniversary party
vidman replied to FELINE's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
I may film the party tommorrow night so will grab as many "cats" as i can for you! For any Bm's in town, Paul is expecting "sonny" the ex-pro singer that resides in Patts to give us a few select songs during the evening. Anybody that attended the Morning Star bar brithday party(soi16) on tuesday evening will know what to expect!!! There will also be a few thai singers(falang songs tho) and Anybody wanting to "boo" BM Rambo can do so if he sings a few Bay-city-rollers songs!!! This is shaping up to be a great night for all. a few points tho: 1:i have absolutely nothing financially -

Cutom T-Shirts, Polos, Caps
vidman replied to tshirtXpress.net's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
There is definetely and untapped market for bars to produce and sell their "bar brand" in the form of t-shirts polos etc. Obviously big bars such as Rolling Stone and Blues Factory are already switched on to this but some smaller niche bars could make a killing. Long time ago you couldnt get this service in pattaya and i always needed to pop into MBK in Bangkok. Good luck! -

Danny,s "routine" is to buy all the girls a drink and then fuck off and leave the bin to you! ......Whilst singing "quando quando quando" Of course! -
A while back the Shagwell mansions used to let you choose your own steak for cooking. Guess you only have yourself to blame then! vid

This wont apply to KLM but it does apply to anyone flying emirates etc. Some problems with the miles redemption is what the airline class as the different seat classes. Your normal "economy" class is what you want but they are quoting you "peak economy" class. (at double miles cost) Maybe an economy seat will be available but you will need to call the "miles" office AND there may be a stopover time.

Pattaya Beer Garden update - 8 October 2008
vidman replied to PattayaPete's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
The "wave" is a great idea Pete! It could become your trademark! We need to Film around town getting everyone to do the "Beer garden Wave". This would include the mayor, some police, Walking st entertainers, Thai Elvis, Someone on a "beer garden" advertised baht bus, Soemone super-imposed on the big walking st screen...etc etc Could be done easily Pete!! -
Cheers Paul for your reply. I knew you were a top bloke (same birthday as me) and just wanted to nip any minor probs in the bud. Could have been a 1 off but worth pointing out! Will pop in soon (no free beer needed but cheers)

PSP, This post aint a slur on your establishment on a whole or an assumption that this wasnt an issolated incident....its merely an account of 1 visit (on sunday). Popped in Mistys, had my first draft beer of the evening(65baht) and paid bin to mammasan with 1000baht note. Black change wallet duly arrives and with a quick glance (i.e briefly see a 500,a few red 100's and a pile of 20's and a 5baht coin..i make a guess-ta-mate that the change is correct). I take the notes and add 5baht to leave 10baht tip (ok not big spender but better than nothing). Get outside and something is "
