I tried to post the Street View of the 7/11 from Google maps but can't do it. The Pattaya Photo Guide does not cover this portion of Soi 15. The condo behind the 7/11 is named Prime. -redwood

A mate wrote about a year ago: "Her school was in Naklua itself. For people who know Naklua they will all know the big tree in the middle of the road. Well the school is about 100 yards short of the tree on the left as you enter Naklua from Pattaya. There is another on south Pattaya road same side as friendship about 100 yards from tai/3rd road lights. Not looked recently but there was one on Klang across from Foodland." -redwood

A mate's Thai wife learned at a school in Naklua. Not looked recently but there was one on Klang across from Foodland next door to the hardware store. -redwood

Thai Women and the medical profession in Thailand
redwood13 replied to peckerwood's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Having worked in heath care for 40 years prior to retiring, I would have estimated the percentage of women MD's to be about 30% in the US. "........1970s, when only 10% of U.S. doctors were women. Today women account for one-third of the physician workforce. In U.S. medical schools, they make up half the class." http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/08_17/b4081104183847.htm -redwood -
Past border runs from Pattaya to include Queen Vic and Sportsman runs have been to Chanthaburi and then N. on highway 317 then E. through the town of Pong Nam Ron (site of the immigration office) then to the actual border which can be either Ban Pakard (Packard)/Pailin, Cambodia OR to the N. of there to Ban Laem/Daun Lem, Cambodia. Report has to be done if you're in Thailand more than 90 consecutive days. Rule change a few months ago: Report can be done 15 days prior to the due day. (And still 7 days after.) Chonburi (Pattaya) charges 2000 baht for late reporting (beyond the 7 days grace period). Happened to me last month. Not all immigration offices will accept reporting by mail. -redwood

For folks in your situation the education visa is the option more and more are choosing. You're unlikely to get a Multi-O without qualifying as they tightened up on the rules earlier this year. http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/downloads-and-visas.aspx -redwood

In the past I've gotten boxes from Foodland. Down the soi on the W. side of the store to the loading dock. There's an employee entry door and the boxes are through another door on the L. as you enter. Ask the employees who are usually hanging about. Big C on 2nd Road also has boxes but they're in the locked storage unit on the SE corner of the property. I happen to catch them when they were loading a truck and they were happy to help me choose good boxes, but normally they won't be accessible -redwood

The The Provincial Electrical Authority office on Klang is permanently closed. There are plans to build a new one. In the meantime sign outside says use the Naklua office. MAP http://wikimapia.org/9848987/Pattaya-Provincial-Electricity-Authority And from thaivisa we have: "There is also a PEA office about 200m up from Sukhumvit on Chaiyapruek 2, purple and white coloured building on the left. Much handier for anyone on the south side of town or Jomtien." MAP http://tinyurl.com/3wx276p -redwood

"Bacillus Calmette-Guérin(or Bacille Calmette-Guérin, BCG) is a vaccine against tuberculosis that is prepared from a strain of the attenuated (weakened) live bovine tuberculosis bacillus, Mycobacterium bovis, that has lost its virulence in humans by being specially cultured in an artificial medium for years. BCG immunization causes pain and scarring at the site of injection. The main adverse effects are keloids—large, raised scars. The insertion of deltoid is most frequently used because the local complication rate is smallest when that site is used." -redwood

I'm told Peter's funeral will be tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nikolaus Catholic Church on Sukhumvit Rd. in Pattaya. Cremation will be Friday afternoon at a wat in Naklua - (no further specifics given). -redwood

I first met Peter when he bought Skytop back in late 2003 or early 2004. I'd see him occasionally thereafter but was never more than an acquaintance. However I do know that Peter had a number of health issues through the years. Most recently, about two weeks ago I understand, he had abdominal surgery – possibly an appendectomy at (I believe) the government hospital in Siracha. He was released to recuperate and was apparently getting along OK until a few days ago when he collapsed while out. He was again hospitalized in Siracha and died there yesterday. I learned the above from a phone

Good chance most any name brand you see in Thailand will be overpriced compared to UK, Oz, or especially the USA. I suspect some of these are in fact fakes even if sold in an “authorized” shop. Mate of mine recently bought famous name underwear in a mall shop. Problem is that company doesn't market underwear, well except in Thailand it seems, i.e. it's very likely rebadged. Nike or Adidas trainers purchased at factory outlet - soles delaminated in 6 weeks. Same with sandals from Mike Mall. But I do have trainers from Central that are OK. Shirts from tailor are maybe OK if copied
