Recently my message replies post with red fonts. I have to go back select "black" and then rewrite the reply. That is, red seems to be the default instead of black. Or is it just the preview that's red? -redwood

Walked by there today wondered what it was all about - "resort" - guessing not! Set back from the road so it's hard to tell if it's even open. Discrete except for the big sign screaming 24 which is kind of a not too subtle hint that it's a no tell motel. Should be attractive to the Bangkok Thais down for the weekend who hookup at the Hollywood Disco which is just up the road. -redwood

Per thaivisa some Maxnet users have lost the ability to use Open DNS. That would be me A week ago Monday night I got a message saying I needed to reconnect to my ISP and also that I would have dynamic DNS (server varies each time the user connects to the Internet). I got error codes each time I tried to log on to Maxnet. Finally was told that I had the wrong password. Seems they changed it and didn't notify me. Connects are slow and transferring is slow but at least I'm not getting ADDRESS NOT FOUND messages for the most part. You can no longer pay your Maxnet bills at 7/

Definitely not on or even near the beach but highly recommended by a mate is the Royal Crown Hotel. It's on the hill allegedly 1 km. from the beach. But they do offer a shuttle bus to Bangla and 2nd Road from 08:00 til 23:00, though after that you'd be at the mercy of the infamous Patong taxi mafia. Good value especially in high season and has been guest friendly, but I'd check on their current policy before committing. And has a pool. -redwood

As I understand it key money insures that if the tenant's business fails the landlord isn't stuck with a vacant building producing no income. In the West he would sue and probably destroy the tenant's credit rating but that really doesn't apply here. A farang would usually go back to Farangland if the biz failed. Key money is basically rent in advance to protect the landlord in case of such eventualities. -redwood

l'm guessing you have a 2 or maybe 3 entry tourist visa. If so, you can apply for the extension prior to your "admitted until" date and there will be no loss of days. There is an immigration office in Phuket. -redwood

Good well written review Re the lady boys, if you give them any inkling that you're interested, that is if you even look at one surreptitiously out of the corner of your eye, they'll assume you're just shy and just a little unsure of how to proceed and they'll certainly consider it an invitation to come on to you. A "no thank you" should stop any further advances. Remember though, these are men in dresses and growing up as they have they likely know how to take care of themselves in an altercation and if necessary use a knife. BTW, walked down 6/1 last Saturday night about 22:0

Per thaivisa re-entry permits are no longer issued at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. They're only available from Immigration offices which means none nights, weekends or holidays. Guess they'll be selling more multiple entry permits at 3800 baht vs 1000 for a single. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Reentry-Permit-t235860.html -redwood

LL was the Stereo Bar. And not surprised by Mr T and company's honesty. I used him for my arrival at BKK last month and couldn't find the driver. As it was mostly my fault I sent him an email offering to pay for the fare and he replied that it wasn't necessary as I'd no doubt use him again - which I will. -redwood

White Orchid or Rajah Mansion in Bangkok.
redwood13 replied to tomx2's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Rajah Mansion is same address as Raja Hotel (shithole) which is to be avoided! Think a mate stayed at the White Orchid Inn (not to be confused with the White Orchid Hotel in China Town) and said it was ok. This is the same little soi where the Nap Inn is located??? There are several other places - bars with rooms above - along Soi 4. These fill up fast given the prices for the location. -redwood
