ATM UK Card, ATM Thai Card or bank transfer
joekicker replied to Paul BRS's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Yes. If you send baht, you are basically changing at the US (UK, whatever) rate. So always send the foreign currency, get it changed when it arrives in your account. The OP is getting his pounds changed in England at the UK rate, which is horrible. . -
Not bad (the first time) but I don't see the TSA connection. Japan was the first country to put up tough airport security in the early 70s because of the pro-North Korea hijackings. They're more polite but just as tough and efficient as anyone. .

You can switch to "retired" quite possibly. You'll have to take/bring the new required papers (income, bank deposit, whatever) but they can do it while you wait - if they feel like it. .

Airbus and Boeing products running behind schedule
joekicker replied to BigDUSA's topic in Idle Chit Chat
Yeah, the other posters approached this, but let me ask straight up: Why would Boeing bother even testing and flying this plane any more, if it's so profitable just leaving it in burnt pieces on the ground? It seems to me that "break even" and profitability require an airborne people-carrier - which Boeing doesn't yet have and has no clue when it will have -- if ever. I actually think that "never" is a possibility. Horrible to contemplate, but I really think you have to contemplate it. This thing is the real-world version of Duke Nukum Forever - except that Duke Nukum Forever may actually, finally be in final production. . -
Neither would Russians or Fiji Islanders or Chinese or Morgan make the initial investment. Not sure what their nationality has to do with it, mind. There are hundreds and hundreds of all kinds of "crafts" the Thais have invested in from klong boats to ocean-going trawlers and freighters. They run up and down all the rivers. There was that ferry service from Songkhla to Vancouver Island, don't forget. Ferries of various types run from Surat Thani to Samui.... They're all Thai, all invested to beat the band. There are a few dozen large craft making the Bangkok-Ayutthaya run. Pattaya-Hua Hin sounds good, just like flights to Pattaya sound good. In the cold light of day, things that sound good often aren't profitable. That's a much better reason not to invest than being born a Thai. .

Good point, but anyone who shares a computer with his wife AND doesn't know how to wipe his tracks AND doesn't actually wipe his tracks -- he probably doesn't shower off the perfume from the soapy either. He deserves what he gets. It's much easier to find a wife who doesn't give a xrap about any of that anyhow. .

Interesting. I've found a reference. I'm still very sceptical to be kind, but it's not made up. Thanks for the tip. .

There's a visa extension class called "spouse" or in some places it's still "Thai wife". You must be completely, legally married. You get no credit for support, or for common law. You show the marriage certificate from the amphur office, or you don't. Respectively, you qualify for a spouse status, or you don't. .

I've never heard such a thing. A lot are crippled, but I'd not heard they were a day off the average on lifespan. Any idea where you remember that from? I'd like to look into that. Meredith had a brain haemorrhage. Haven't seen a suggestion it was because he was a football player. I'll say this, that for a quarterback he was REALLY beat up, he had quite a rep for being tough. .

Why? I mean why do you reckon that? Why not? Have you heard of Bill Heineke? People become Thai (rpt Thai) citizens all the time. There is a language requirement as part of the simple citizenship test, but the language bar is particularly and laughably low. You need 10 years' residency, but again "residency" is defined very loosely, and being a non-resident is usually enough -- although "real" residency i.e. a red book are required at the end. I'm curious about "Thia". So many people write that, it seems not to be a typo. .

The OP specifically wrote retirement. In either case, the actual fee for a one-year extension of stay is 1,900 baht, no difference on the reason. Sorry to hear you got run around. It happens. .

Stop right there, at least for me. That's the limit of what I *KNOW* is true. Yes, it were me, I'd definitely tell a lawyer what I wanted, listen to his/her advice. .

Heh, thanks rick and Tom. .

I don't get what's new. Immigration changed from 30 to 15 days for overland entries quite some time ago. If you have a visa, doesn't matter how you enter. What change are they on about? .

nasty computer virus out
joekicker replied to berettakid's topic in Technical problems or questions.
No perfect program for sure. But AVG has got worse lately, or so it seems. The most recent problem was a biggie worldwide. AVG update bricks Windows 7 The latest update to AVG’s Anti-virus software, 3292, caused 64-bit Windows 7 PCs to crash upon the enforced restart. Users were greeted with an error message reading, “STOP: c0000135 The program can’t start because %hs is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” Well, good, but 1 terabyte drives are going for about $50 or $60 these days. You wouldn't have to miss many beers to get one. . -
Very basically speaking, she will have to own 51 per cent of the company - BUT the bylaws can set up various controls, checks and balances. It sounds to me like you need an agreement, maybe signed and witnessed, not a company. Companies require reports, must pay taxes on income, etc, etc. You don't need to be asking legal stuff like this here, but any cheap lawyer can set up a legal business or agreement for you. But as you describe it, it is probably impossible. With very few exceptions, you can NOT own more than 49 per cent of any legal entity. .

American Sports via the Internet FOR FREE
joekicker replied to calimonger's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I hope your brother's room mate is lawyered up. The problem is: Almost nothing on the site is free to air. In fact, right off the bat with a quickl look, I can't see anything at all that is free to air. These sites come and then they go, reasonably quickly. There's a heck of a lot of work that went into this site, and it's pretty good while it lasts, too. But that won't be too long. ESPN, Fox News, CNN.... on and on, they aren't free to air. FOR SURE the NFL, the NHL, Serie A, WWE and so on are absolutely not free to air. If you are from the United States and you have service in the US at your home and you are just visiting Pattaya and you absolutely can't do without watching your sensational Friday Night Smackdown, get a Slingbox - it really works AND it's legal and will work forever, more or less. We are a long way from having mass-audience FREE access to broadcasts from one country available in another. It's just the way the broadcast industry is set up - to restrict, not to be free. The law's on their side. Your brother's room mate is dead meat. . -
whats your proffesion the majority of people on here
joekicker replied to louie's topic in Idle Chit Chat
You don't understand how the Internet works. In the first place, you have to post the truth by law. Everything on the Internet is factual, because the technology is that the Internet routes around all untruthful posts and you can't seem them. All you're left with is factual, truthful stuff. . -
This article raises a lot of questions, but the obvious ones are: Dating coach? That's an occupation? .

Yeah, jacko, Ad-Blocker is an add-on, not part of Firefox. I've had it running on Chrome for months, works a treat there too. Chrome calls them "Extensions". 148,000 people have joined me this week. .
-
I second this. The program that evolved from Netscape has evolved back into Netscape. What is even a little more weird to me is how few programs have evolved from open-source Firefox, and none of them is really much useable - maybe excepting the music program Songbird. .

That's pretty much what it is. The "league" is known as qualification. Matches (games) begin in 2011, just as you'd want, home and away and round robin and all. After the "league" part, the best 32 teams go to the finals. Me. Plus everyone who wants to. It's up ^^^^ there in this thread, even. They're going to air condition the stadia (stadiums). .
-
Why are you fixated on this old, old news? Qatar and FIFA have announced that all games will be played at 27 degrees. You might as well be complaining about the injustice of laces on the leather balls. .
-
Yeah, because in this world, you should never try to get help for yourself when there's a room maid around. Good one LD. I thought for a few seconds you were serious. Very deadpan. .

You're right, but it's tougher than you describe. What you need is to hire an agent who will take care of the extras. If you try to do it yourself, you may shoot yourself just to stop the pain. It is a terrible ordeal. But there are good agents all over the port area, and all over the yellow pages, who will fix you up fine. They know the ropes, know the paperwork (which is very depressing) and know the right people. captcraig, you'll almost certainly get buy without paying (hardly) any duties, as you say - personal items. That's not to mention the cough service fees cough. .
