There really is no site called appshot.com - it's for sale, and has a holding page only. If you can't get to it, probably because of (another) dumb mistake by your provider company, which will be sorted out. However, there's nothing to see there. .

Home Run Bar and Grill Bangkok
joekicker replied to Bruce Mangosteen's topic in Restaurants and food
Thanks for this review and set of pix, Bruce, highly appreciated. I'll go out of my way to try this one out. . -
Did you notice how all the cricket haters piled into the Ashes threads, and how the anti-soccer crowd have just taken over the Premiership thread with stupid, rude, infantile and idiotic posts? Me neither. Why not just give a it a rest the way everyone has given a total, 100 percent, no-comment rest to the threads YOU read? .

Well, nothing like having to turn off the sound on the Rose Bowl in order to miss the worst sports announcer ever spawned on any of the seven continents and the Moon, Brent Phuocking Musburger. JEEzuz what did the US sports world ever do that deserved this guy? Yaaaack! .

Not a useful one that will help Vista, no. He needs to hit F8 (probably repeatedly) and try to start in Safe Mode, start up System Restore and go back in time (It won't touch his data). At this point this is the best possibility. Alternatively, hit F8 and choose "boot in last known good configuration". This probably won't work but is definitely worth a try, only takes 10 minutes. Last alternative, just hose the effing thing -- make sure you have all the personal data off it, buy Windows 7 (really) and install from scratch, i.e. format the disk. If he does NOT have a backup, let us know and someone will tell you how to boot in DOS (with a disk made in XP, maybe) and copy all the non-backed-up data off. .

Disturbing from the farang motorbike thread
joekicker replied to thedodger's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
From the fishwrap: Wisarut Ponlasit, one of the survivors, said he was not considering filing for compensation from the young driver. He said Ms Orachorn, who was in a wheelchair, apparently sustained bruises to her body. "She apologised for what happened and I understood. I'll let police handle the case but I don't think I'll demand any compensation," he said. Mr Wisarut said the girl's mother also apologised for not coming to see him sooner. Waranyu Ketchu, another victim, said he also was not thinking about filing a lawsuit. "I feel good that they came by and apologised. The rest should wait until I fully recover," he said. -
Disturbing from the farang motorbike thread
joekicker replied to thedodger's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
It wasn't by a news photographer. It was by a passer-by, immediately after the accident. That is why she has been attacked, for getting out her phone immediately after the accident. Well, the name WAS conferred quite a few generations ago, not by this monarch. That particular name is well known and there are several prominent branches of the family -- one of which is the King's personal financial manager. But you are right -- SO FAR this girl's major offence in the eyes of some of the public was to have been born. . -
Disturbing from the farang motorbike thread
joekicker replied to thedodger's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Funny old world, I have almost exactly the opposite opinion, especially after seeing her on TV, where for 16 she sure sounded more adult than a lot of adults, and seemed quite concerned about human life, the dead and survivors included. She's from a well-off family but by all early reports quite a good and decent one. Probably both of us are wrong, but we'll see over the next short while, I'd think. I do agree that if she and/or her family are hi-so xhits, then she can get away with pretty well anything - no argument there. But my early inclination is that she isn't trying to do that. She said publicly for example: "I'd like to express my sadness at what happened ... It was an accident caused by my recklessness." It's early days, but that doesn't sound like Chalerm's kid or a witness-tamperer. As for driving at 16, all of my kids were driving at 15 or 16 in Thailand BUT they had (foreign) licenses. Driving at 16 is no big deal under Thai law (it IS illegal, but so is spitting on the street) and shouldn't be a big deal, in my opinion. I have no idea of her experience, though. There are (surprise!) lots of conflicting reports of how the accident occurred, and we'll see how that sorts itself in coming days. . -

Who did you think I was taking it up with? Don't go all macky on us, okay? There's not a word in my post that a REASONABLE person would think was critical of you. . -
Disturbing from the farang motorbike thread
joekicker replied to thedodger's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Absolutely. She took a lot of heat for using her phone to notify authorities, family and insurance. There's a question or who bumped who and so on, but using her phone is the SMART thing to be doing, and helpful to others as well as her. She is underage to drive, but it's a pretty minor offence on its own. In lots of places she'd have had her licence for a year after all. Seems from this morning's paper to be pretty level-headed -- apologised, went to see the survivors, etc. Anything can be alleged. No updated Facebook, Twitter or similar account has been seen, so far. And she simply flat denies it. So to those who allege this, put up and show us the updates, or shut up, that's my opinion. It's a simple fact of whether she did or not. Same as thie forum -- whatever the content, there's a post at that time, or there isn't. This is the time, by the way, from the infamous photo that "proved" she was updating Twitter or whatever. What does it prove to you? . -

I saw a piece recently that described 2010 as the worst year for movies, ever. . -
The Future Of Pattaya?
joekicker replied to cannonball83204's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Are you suggesting something could go wrong in there to prevent it? I certainly would never suggest any such thing. I'd laugh and guffaw and then flat state it. . -
There's some kind of setting involved that I've been unable to suss out. I simply can't do it with Chrome - but Firefox is okay and IE is perfect. I suspect it's the ad-blocker, but that's just my first and strongest guess. Ah so. Thanks. Should have read the whole thread before replying. .
-
Ah so. And the OP wrote that specifically and my eyes glazed over right there. My apologies. I am pretty sure a Thai channel bought the FA Cup - Channel 7 sticks in my mind. In that case, it will be even easier to see it in Bangkok, and even harder to find English. I had a quick look at BBTV home page, and I don't see anything. Be assured FA Cup will definitely be on, with a grazillion eyeballs glued, and I THINK it's commercial station. .

Premiership is the real deal in Thaland. It should be on in your hotel room -- most hotels have the "cable" TV that shows it. But finding a bar that has a big-interest game like this shouldn't be difficult - most any pub for sure, and most decent hotels have a pub/bar that isn't blasting out live music. Around the Bayoke area, there are lots of hotels, small bars and restaurants that will have it on. Be aware that ALMOST any place that has the match and sound, that sound will be Thai. For POSSIBLE English, I'd head down to Sukhumvit, a few hotels centred on the Landmark, near Soi 6. Around the Baiyoke, the only real chances of English commentary in a public bar/restaurant are fat and slim. .

Yes. ALTHOUGH there probably will be no problem if he goes next week, he should go this week and make sure there is no problem. .

Hell, I'm just hopeful someone will explain what it has to do with Bangkok insurance! .
-
Yes. Immigration won't be busy at all on Jan 3. The title is misleading, if not actually wrong. So is the OP. Obviously other posters misunderstood as well. Technically, it is correct - government offices are closed from Dec 31 to Jan 3 INCLUSIVE - and reopen on Jan 4. .

I'm really sceptical of the girl being the thief here, breaking noisily into your box like that. IF she was involved, I bet she was a setup, and someone else did the box when you were out. (Doesn't explain the noise you heard, but it explains everything else including her behaviour -- although you noticed that behaviour AFTER discovering the missing dough, eh?) But her staying with you argues against her being the setup, too. Also, if the cops have talked to her, and she still denies it, very heavy chance she didn't do it. They're ever so good at, um, getting to the bottom of a case quickly. So far as the bar and your personal relations, no one is going to defend a thief. The problem is, you don't know if she is. Watch your mouth, just say you don't KNOW what's happening and you're assisting police with their enquiries, everything will be cool. The onliest thing that's got me super-nosy is why you'd stay with this girl again, "knowing" she was the thief??? .

Didn't get your computer fixed, did you? .

Well, I don't like dancing as much as you. I asked what the messages said. They did NOT say only ""Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to shut down". They said "Microsoft (name of software) has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" where (name of software) is probably important in several way including getting it to stop. jacko gets back to where he was after a few minutes of rebooting and restarting his programs. That's one way to do it. Maybe upgrading or even downgrading the problem software would do it. And indeed it could be quite involved. But whatever it is, there *IS* help available if you get off the dance floor for a few minutes. .

Lots of taxis and the Skytrain. It's a fairly short hike to Soi Cowboy, maybe 15 minutes. It's down a reasonably busy soi, never should be a transportation problem of any kind. I'd rate it an excellent location for tourists/visitors. I don't know the ACTUAL hotel, but it is close to an awful lot of stuff. EDIT: I just noticed that Google Maps at least shows this hotel very wrongly. The hotel website says it is on Sukhumvit Soi 31, and I'm sure that's correct -- they should know where they are. Google Maps places it way up Sukhumvit around Soi 4 (Nana Nua, infamous for Nana Plaza). Soi Cowboy parallels Sukhumvit Road, between Sois 21 and 23, why I said it's a fairly short walk from the hotel to Cowboy. .

Again, you need to say what PART of Microsoft the message says - browser, Word, what? But anyhow, again, GIYF .

Try here. GIYF. BestBuy has the Geek Squad, of course, although not as cheap as some research at the link, and hands-on. .

anyone due to fly out of UK this weekend?
joekicker replied to pattaya_mad's topic in Airline Discussion
It was around 2000 that Jugears was saying Britain was doomed in 10 years, wasn't it? Encroaching jungles, malaria and the seas rising around the top of the Tower and all? Hey, it's as scientific as any other religion. .
