  1. I see this thread has popped up again. Anyway, for the people who think Pattaya isn't what it used to be.... Perhaps there's a new place? Cambodia? Vietnam? Myanmar? There almost has to be some unspoiled place somewhere on planet earth.
  2. Isn't there another steak place right across the way? I think that one is better.
  3. Let's face it, any hackers out there probably won't waste their time trying to hack into the account of a typical consumer. Why would they do that when they could try for Citibank? I do worry about key loggers, though. One time I found one on my computer and I have no idea how it got there. I shut the thing down, re-formatted the hard drive, and went to the local computer store to buy a Mac.
  4. I just do whatever I'm in the mood for. And it's hard to tell what that will be until the time comes. I'm sure, though, that there are guys who have some sort of schedule/scorecard and try to plan their vacations down to the last minute.
  5. Thanks for the update. I guess I'll come if I can, regardless of the weather. When I find a place to stay, it'll be off the ground floor.
  6. Chrome may be good, but can you trust Google with your privacy? I doubt it. Imagine that the Google browser reports your every move online back to the mother ship (Google). Would you be happy with that?
  7. In general, how's the weather right now? Drier than last year? I may be coming in a month or so, although I don't usually come until November, when the rainy season is over. Not that I mind a little rain, I'd just rather avoid big floods.
  8. I'm sure that's what the expats who own properties in a company name believe. And maybe for some people, losing a few million baht would be no big deal. But for someone like me, it would be a big deal, especially when it wasn't necessary. I could easily buy a condo the right way.
  9. Of all the times I've been in Pattaya bars, I've only noticed being overcharged once or twice. Then again, maybe I was a little bit drunk and didn't remember how many beers I'd had. All in all, I'd say there isn't much to worry about.
  10. I'm almost at a loss for words. Some guy is dead because he didn't like a little dog? Where do these nuts come from?
  11. I've found that for small transactions here in he USA, many of the dealers just use cash. They all seem to hate the government red tape anyway, and so when you try to buy or sell a gold coin or two, cash works fine. No paperwork whatsoever. You give the guy a gold coin and he pulls some money out of his pocket, hands it to you, and that's the end of the transaction.
  12. Sure, you can get to Bangla Road. Just walk down to the street behind the Jungceylong Mall. The Street itself can be busy and hard to cross at times. Anyway, you can cut through the mall or, you can walk a block or two down to Soi Sansabai and walk down that - it'll lead you the top of Bangla Road. As I recall, there are also a few hotels and guesthouses right on Soi Sansabai. The Summer Breeze Hotel or the Yorkshire hotel, plus a few cheap guesthouses.
  13. OK, depending on what you mean by "near" Bangla Road, try the Ferb Guest House or the Little Buddah, or the Lovlei? Guesthouse. They're all on the same street. No pool, though.
  14. Look on Soi Sansabai or perhaps up by Nanai Road. I've stayed at a bunch of guest houses in Patong: Ferb Guesthouse; Andaman Sea Guesthouse; etc. They're all pretty much the same. Just walk around and pick one.
  15. I've thought about this a little bit, as I may well buy a moderately priced Thailand condo in a year or so. My conclusion: Leaving it unoccupied for a few months at a time shouldn't be a problem. Just don't leave anything in it that can't be replaced with a quick trip to Big C. In other words, don't leave behind computers and expensive electronic equipment. As for paying your bills while you're gone? Perhaps that can be done via a K Bank account?
  16. In the USA, most of the cable companies carry channels that show nothing but re-runs of old shows.

    Mortgages

Some of the banks in Singapore and Hong Kong used to finance Thai properties for foreigners. Perhaps they still do.
  18. As I understand it, if you try to complete the process with just a 30 day stamp, you have to start the process early in the 30 days, as one step of the process can only be complete if you have a certain number of days remaining on your original 30 days. In other words, don't wait until the last few days.
  19. They just make you raise your hand and swear that you have whatever income you say you have and that's that. They sign off on it. When I went to Thai immigration, I had documents to show my monthly income, but they never wanted to see them.
  20. Don't they also cut down the coconuts once in a while, to keep people from getting hit on the head?
  21. I wonder how much of the noise rom the nearby go go bars can now be heard in the rooms? I've stayed there three or four times, but that was before they put a go go bar next door.
  22. From what I can tell, they're not easily available. For example, you sit in a bar and order a San Miguel Light. The waitress asks if you want it with a "lemon." You say yes, and when it comes, it's with a lime. I'm not sure I've ever seen a lemon in Thailand. Maybe you should try a lime diet?
  23. When I first heard about this service, I thought about using it, but I never did. Anyway, when I stop to think about it, I guess I've never experienced much of a wait at immigration. My last arrival was typical: a wait of about five minutes. My last departure: a wait of about one minute. The longest wait I've experienced was in Phuket, and that was because all of the Russians cutting in line.
  24. Good luck finding a chef. I had a funny experience once at your place. I sat down, they brought me a menu, and i ordered lunch. Fifteen minutes later they came back and told me "No have chef." I'm not sure why it took them all that time to figure that out.
