Your 17 hours on Thai from JFK will be on an Airbus A340-500, not a 747.

Connecting laptop to iinternet at Internet Cafe
jimmac replied to lovenokia's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Does your lap top have wireless? If yes, just go to Starbucks at the corner of your Soi and Beach Rd, get a card from them, go upstairs and enjoy high speed access in comfort with a coffee. On my last two stays at the Sandy Spring on Soi 13 that's what I've done. I spent about an hour each morning on line clearing e-mails, reading my home newspaper and checking this board. I bought a 5 hour card which I used over a week and it worked out very well. -
Don't stay there. They are not guest friendly. They have a security uard on the elevator. The Asian tour groups tie up the elevator and the breakfast restaurant. If you are mongering, it is not the place to go. There are lots of good alternatives within a few sois.

I have wondered if it is a reasonable alternative to the Sandy Spring, maybe a bit cheaper, maybe a bit more apartment for the same cost, maybe a little higher quality finishing as its new. I also wonder if the units have decent balconies. I'd be interested in reading about the experiences of BMs in this place.

Sany Spring and construction work.
jimmac replied to aldprt's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I'm staying in the Sandy Spring right now and there is no noise problem. -
You will get there early evening in time to pick the best girl. I'll drop into FLB a few times during my stay. Hope to see you there.

Three weeks to go and this is my last post to move up the thread to see if anyone is interested in sharing a ride. If not, I'll be ready to go in Pattaya as soon as the taxi can get me there.

dj0609, The car is booked for 22:15 on Nov 19. I hope I can get through customs quickly and be in Pattaya by 1 a.m. and have a SSS and be out in time to find some company for the night. I figure that with luck I can be in the car by 11 and be in Pattaya 90 minutes later at that time of night and find girls before the bars supposedly close at 1. I'm having a couple of days in BKK at the end of my trip but want to get started in Pattaya. Let me know when you get there. Maybe we can have a drink. At least at Cowboy's party.
-
Cowboy, I look forward to your party! jimmac

Just moving the post back up the thread to see if anyone's arrival coincides with mine.
-
Less than 40 days to departure. I arrive at BKK on TG677 at 22:15 on November 19. I have a car booked. I'd be happy to share a ride with anyone arriving around the same time if you'll share the cost. PM me if interested.

Back trouble and Thai massages
jimmac replied to jackcorbett's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
I went to my chiroprator at home this morning because my back is giving me some pain. Like you, these visits usually fix the problem. I need to make sure my back is in good shape for my next visit to Pattaya next month. My advice is go and see the chiropractor in Pattaya, especially since a number of guys on the Board say he's a Canadian and they recommend him. Get as many treatments from him as you need. I would also go for oil massages in Pattaya. TTM in my opinion is a cranking around of your back which might do more harm than good. With an oil massage you can get the masseuse -
Need help finding a room for 3 people.
jimmac replied to vger's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Try the Sandy Spring on Soi 13. The big two room suite on the 8th floor is 2500 baht/night. The bedroom has a big king size bed more than capable of accomodating a large guy and 2 TGs for the night. I have tested it and it passes the test. I intend to repeat the experience next month. -
LeoTex, Don't tell everyone how OK this hotel is. The more people who think its not one of the best values in Pattaya the easier it will be for you and I to get reservations. Mine for a top floor suite at 2500/night has been made for a month. Can't wait for November. But don't tell!

I agree with Niall. On my last visit I went first to Mr Wong and was 'prickly'. In fact he acted like a prick. He lectured me and wouldn't budge on his price. I walked and just walked to to Sarah, around the corner. She was very pleasant and she offered me the same Rolex as Mr Wong at a better price. My son is still wearing it and he thinks its great. Sarah is on the left aisle of the market near the back so you have to walk through all the food to get there. Her stall faces to the left, she is on the right side of the furthest aisle to the left of the market as you walk in from the

Anyone stayed in the Royal President on Soi 15, Sukhumvit, BKK, in one of these suites? I'd appreciate any comments or reviews from fellow board members.
-
I bought one on Beach Road last week and the guy asked for ID. I gave him a photocopy of my passport which I was carrying and I think he photocopied it for his registration. I didn't do anything more than that.

Why do you have such a problem with people disagreeing with you? If you'd be specific and not tar the whole of Soi 13 with your "nightmare" brush you might get less disagreement. Only when pushed do you finally concede the problem at the Sandy Spring may be limited to "try sleeping in one of the cheaper sandy rooms overlooking the soi." Well, there are a lot of other Sandy Spring rooms that are some of the best value rooms in Pattaya. Why do you tar them with the "nightmare" brush and react with sweeping denunciations when anyone has the nerve to disagree with your partially true assertion
-
What is your problem? Why are you shouting at people who just use this board for what it's intended, asking for info on Pattaya? I just spent 5 nights in the Sandy Spring. yes, there is construction on Soi 13 but there's construction activity all over Pattaya. The noise is not bad. I heard more noise from music in a local bar after 1 a.m. than from any construction and neither inhibited my ability to sleep in the afternoon or at night. Why don't you just give people accurate info instead of shouting?
-
Just what I wanted to 'hear'. I'll check in to the Sandy Spring in 12 days.
-
Just 4 weeks from tomorrow. Can you tell I'm counting the days? Moving up once more to see if anyone travelling at the same time.
-
There's a thread on flyertalk.com that says TG will start 3 times/week non stop LAX service with one A340-500 on November 3. It also says they will continue their existing daily LAX-KIX-BKK service.
-
Thai has only 3 classes on the A340-500 being used on the JFK run. They have an upgraded Royal Silk business class, premium economy and economy.

Only 5 weeks from tomorrow. I can't wait! Just moving the post up to see if there's anyone arriving at ther same time.

Do the suites have decent balconies and can you get them facing Pattaya Bay? When I've walked past at a distance many seem to face away from the bay, balconies seem small and seem to have big a/c units on them. I'd love to hear from members who've stayed there.
