I don't like Chiang Mai at all but I could live in Chiang Rai. Not a big mongers place but you only need one lady and there are enough to choose from. I have a farang friend who lives about 40 kilometers south of the city. You pass the White Temple on the way.He lives near Phan.

Dear Abby, My husband hasn't worked for the last 14 years. All he does is get dressed in the morning and hop in his fancy car to visit his cronies. I know he's cheated on me many times with young girls who could be his granddaughters. I know because he brags about this to me. He smokes fancy cigars and drinks the most expensive Champagne day and night. We sleep in separate beds because he`s always telling me he knows I'm a lesbian and my varicose veins and ugly face turn him off! Should I clobber him with my frying pan, or should I leave him, Abby? Your advice would be appreciated. Mad as Hel

I live comfortably for less than 1,600 baht per day. I don't pay any rent and my vehicles are paid for. I lived on less than that when I was single in my condo in Jomtien and had plenty of company. Maybe I should add that my company were not GoGo girls. I did some drinking, probably too much but not for Pattaya prices. Jomtien bars for the most part are considerably cheaper. If you can't find a suitable bed partner in Jomtien, you are far too particular. That said, I'd hate like hell to have to live on a tight budget.

Honey Lodge Hotel: still open?
Gary replied to SlipSlopSlap's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
They have a great location and for that location, it is fairly quiet. I also like the small swimming pool as a nice place to relax and have a few beers. I do think it is overpriced and their rates need to be lower. They could also save some money by closing the sad kitchen. -
It still looks to me that an overpass would have been easier, cheaper and faster to build. That's not even mentioning obstructing traffic for a long period of time and having to tear up the existing highway. TIT, folly or not?

Honey Lodge Hotel: still open?
Gary replied to SlipSlopSlap's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
It was getting pretty run down. It's been several years ago that they refurbished the entire place. As far as I know it is still open. Check Agoda. They have it listed. Naturally the price has gone up but the location is great. About 1,000 baht. -
Must be British spelling.

Years ago, yes MANY years ago when I was in hight school, there was an attractive girl who was very thin. We used to tease her about putting some meat on her bones. One day she surprised us by saying that her daddy told her that the closer the bone, the sweeter the meat. I have never forgotten that and still smile when I remember it. In the case of BBQ ribs, that is very true.

Talking about monthly spending and income really doesn't tell the story. For instance, I could easily more than double my income by drawing down my 401K retirement fund. If I were to do that, my retirement fund would not last long. As it is that money will likely go to my kids after I am dead and gone. That money could be used in case of a catastrophic emergency. Hopefully that won't happen but we never know. Having a lifetime income in the form of pensions or similar is more realistic. I know many guys who rely entirely on their Social Security check. I don't know of any that get a 100,000 ba

Most posters have good points. Each destitute expat has different circumstances. I am not a wealthy man by any means but the 800,000 baht in the bank was not a problem and I have decent pensions. One guy I know was cheated out of his resort property by the Thais he trusted to put the property in their names. He was in serious trouble but he was near to the age where he could get his government pension. He sold every stick of furniture, even his bed and all the tools he had to maintain the resort. That guy should have not been forced to give up his property and leave the country. After thr

I do my extensions at Chiang Khan in Loei. The very first time I applied I had the income letter. The immigration boss sent me back to Bangkok to have that document legalized. No where else needed that. The next time he told me that some people lie about their income so he needed some proof, which I had. He told me that the 800,000 would work better for me. I have done it that way since. Now they have a new boss and she is a total bitch. I had the money in a deposit certificate that I could take out the money anytime. That was fine until the new bitch came. She wouldn't accept that so I to

If my old friend Jimmy had not already passed away (RIP) , he would have a heart attack seeing that price. He had neither the income nor the savings to get a legal retirement visa. He was paying 10,000 baht per year for quite a few years. The office he used was in Pattaya but I don't remember the name.

There are several different kinds of the home grown stuff. Some very strong and others quite mild. My brother in law rolls his own and he tells me which are mild and which are strong. It appears like the old leathery old farmers prefer the strongest stuff. The brother in law prefers the middle stuff while I bought the mildest. It's probably better tobacco than cheap cigarettes.

Some tobacco is grown in this area. I can still buy a baggie full suitable for roll your own for 10 baht. A lot of locals roll their own anyways. I was on a kick to cut down and since rolling a cigarette is a pain in the ass I did cut down but I ended up going back to buying packs.

I have a Thai friend who runs a small shop. He told me cigarettes were going to go up in price. I smoke SMS and they were 39 baht a pack. He had told me he thought they would go up to 45 baht. They actually went from 39 baht to 51 baht. I think the government lied about how much the increase would be. The shops are not ripping you off.

It looks like I better get used to the small road, 1096 south of Pattaya. That takes me to Sukhumvit highway south of Chaiyapruk. It's out of the way but it avoids the worst part of the long drive from Loei. From highway 7 to Chaiyapruk is the worst part of a 650 kilometer drive. Does anyone think traffic will be better even after the tunnel is finished? I'm not convinced that the tunnel will not flood after a rain.

If I were a Canadian, I wouldn't be too proud of the new prime minister. His father was a communist and as they say, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Years ago a group of us went on a fishing trip way up on the Canadian tundra. Our first stop was in Quebec. We went to a restaurant and our guide asked us to let him order for all of us. He told us that if we spoke English, we may not get served. So much for French Canadian being friendly.

Peyton didn't have a big game but his defense gave him the win anyways. I was was rooting for Denver all season. The Denver defense had poor Cam shook up through the entire game. It was a great win for the Denver fans.

British pensioners arrested and detained in Pattaya
Gary replied to MM's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
This just goes to show people what a bunch of morons they have in law enforcement. With all the unsolved crimes, they waste their time hassling senior citizens. This is beyond stupid. -
Mathematics was not one of my favorite subjects nor was I good at it. Later in life a job promotion required me to know Trig and not only know it but to use it every working day. I ended up in night school studying harder than I had ever had in my life. I did get the job and got by but was no wizard for sure. By that time Texas Instruments marketed a scientific calculator that made me good at my job. I fortunately had a good friend who was a mathematical genius. He programmed all sorts of formulas into that calculator that solved nearly every problem that I had. He found it very easy but to me

Kids today are not required to learn anything. Teachers cannot fail them because it would hurt their self esteem. Thus we have illiterate kids graduating the same as kids who worked hard to learn. Kind of like the unions. A useless lazy employee earns the same as a hard working employee.
