  1. Season's greetings……..We can chalk another one up. http://youtu.be/b1qb-p05EBM
  2. You got me thinking………I usually have just the 4: Get fit Lose weight Stay single Learn a new 'trick'. I dimly recalled reading something about New Year's Resolutions in, 'A Tale of the Tub'. Meant little to me at the time but forty or more years later it's gained a worrying amount of relevance! I'm beginning to wonder if Jonathan Swift ever cocked his hat at the girls in Soi 6 Advice for us all here………For some more than others methinks.. Not to marry a young Woman. Not to keep young Company unless they reely desire it. Not to be peevish or morose, or suspicious. Not to scorn present Ways, or Wits, or Fashions, or Men, or War, &c. Not to be fond of Children, or let them come near me hardly. Not to tell the same story over and over to the same People. Not to be covetous. Not to neglect decency, or cleenlyness, for fear of falling into Nastyness. Not to be over severe with young People, but give Allowances for their youthfull follyes and weaknesses. Not to be influenced by, or give ear to knavish tatling servants, or others. Not to be too free of advise, nor trouble any but those that desire it. To desire some good Friends to inform me wch of these Resolutions I break, or neglect, and wherein; and reform accordingly. Not to talk much, nor of my self. Not to boast of my former beauty, or strength, or favor with Ladyes, &c. Not to hearken to Flatteryes, nor conceive I can be beloved by a young woman, et eos qui hereditatem captant, odisse ac vitare. I won't give you the latin but it's worth looking it up. Just goes to show how it has always been a serious consideration for the older man, and a trap that many a man before us must have fallen into.
  3. In terms of musical preferences I concede that I'm 'Living in the past'………But what a past it was! ………Life's a long song…..And it ends too soon for us all.
  4. In keeping with one man renditions of 'Sultan's of Swing'………. There's a few I've come across. There are some fantastic players around that make you want to give up. I liked this one because somehow he even gets the dynamics right. For any guitarists out there, especially crap ones like me this is a real treat.
  5. "In comes I…….Bold Slasher" Before Pantomime in England we had, 'The Mummer's'. Forty or so years ago, when I was young and still full of dreams, I was roped in at the last minute, (as we all were) to do my bit for Olde England. …..'Performed' outside The Merlin's Cave pub on a Chalfont ST Giles village green…... Dressed in a colander and armed with a plastic Zorro sword …….I killed a dragon, did I…..And quite heroically too! It's tougher than it looks papier-mâché. I can see now where all my latent prejudices were formed. Here's an example………It still goes on in multicultural England……..Amazingly! Catch one before it's banned under sharia law. Warning contains scenes of graphic violence….not suitable for children
  6. Bloody big urinal……??
  7. http://youtu.be/YxNemfdMnOU In keeping with the season……... This love it or hate song was a No 1 hit 40 years ago………Re-released every Xmas through the 80's and 90's and then since the mid 00's. It's the biggest selling Christmas song when counting air-play, jukes boxes and everything else…….. I hated it……but it's starting to grow on me. Papps, did you have trousers like that??? Opps i didn't watch it 'till the end before posting……….I just have. I should have guessed Santa would appear.
  8. That would be a lot simpler…..It was the way the thread was evolving, as recognized in post #7 And so far there hasn't been a lot of response…... I'll give it another day and if there's no increase in interest I'll open a thread where BM's can make there own awards. A bit of back-slapping at Christmas isn't ever a bad thing……... ………Unless you've got a bad back !
  9. I've put that in. Good suggestion and bumps the thread.
  10. Man C v Arsenal ?………….I feel as confused as a Daily Mail reader hearing that Pedophiles are the natural food of illegal immigrants!!
  11. OK, as advised a shortened list. Additions/Subtractions and comments……. Before 16th December please. This will allow time, once the categories have been settled, for nominations to come in. Then I'll set up a poll with the names before Christmas and allow a couple of weeks for voting and reveal the results in early January. Categories: Remember these are to be judged on posts this year. 1. Most informative and helpful Poster 2. Funniest Poster 3. Most interesting Poster 4. Most Respectful. 5. Most enjoyable Trip Report. 6. Most informative Go-Go review. 7. Contributor you are most likely to click on and read whatever the subject. 8. Most enjoyable thread. I see MM's point regarding 'trip-reports' but people enjoy them and they are central to the board. It would be a shame to subdivide them into 'types' or leave them out altogether. It's only a vote for the one, of whatever type you enjoyed the most. I've paired the list down to a more reasonable length assuming it will grow a little depending on feed-back. I think the voting should be private…..I'd be grateful for comments on that please. ………. I'm assuming the software will ensure only one vote per category. And it would be nice if possible to hide the voting results until the end. I'm hopeful that there will be enough interest for this poll to take place…………. But feel free to vent your spleen if you disagree with the idea…………... We could include an award for it!!
  12. That's good Mick…..It's going to send me to Mighty One's posts.
  13. Well it doesn't look like there's an awful lot of interest in this idea……….. So maybe people can just shine a light on any posts or posters that have for one reason or another given them pleasure this year. Just grabbing a handful of categories: Most informative poster…….. For me it's out of: Evil……Tom…..and though he post more rarely Las Robos. Haven't decided yet. There's a few days to go and the entries are still coming in.. Funniest Poster It hurts to say this but Jacko stands out……..Although many others have had their moments…….. Even (Papillon)…. but given the number of posts Jacko gets through a week I hand him the Jester's bobble hat with the bells…..(At least I can hear him sneaking up). 'Best Picture Award' (Our own, 'Bathe It Daily' gong) My eyes are filling up as I announce this….. I'm not a photographer and don't own a camera, but my considered opinion is that 'Rhino' does good tits……..'Patna' too! And that's what matter on the board. This allows the two of them to bounce just ahead of Billion's fish, Firth's planes…….And other notables with a Kodak.. Best Avatar……….Easy this one….NRGT Most Popular/Read Topic. Ikkrang's Soi 6 Girl Thread………….. Very educational on the bar-girl's 'lot' front. On the other 'front,' his writing makes me feel like I'm actually there licking out the wrinkles of 'Noi's" arse. Please feel free to add your comments…... But only positive ones. The idea of an alternate Christmas 'Black Awards' does have it's attractions. But that might better fit in another thread.
  14. I'm not sure of the complexity of setting something like this up. It's not feasible if it means a lot of work for MM and the mods. Looking at my list of awards I agree with what you say,it would need to be simplified and then names suggested to be voted for. Only private positive votes and only vote once per category. Results out in the early new year. For trip reports names do come to my mind………Similarly the photographic threads and the member's you've mentioned. It's up to the Lords of the board if they think it can be done and it's worth it.
  15. Maybe MM might like to instigate a yearly awards thread. Voted on by BM's I've certainly enjoyed a large number of other members posts and found some very useful. I envisage this as mostly a positive activity and not one where people use it as an opportunity to slag off an 'enemy'. Some suggested Categories Most Consistently On Topic Poster Most Likely to Derail a Thread Longest Thread That Hasn't Been Derailed Most informative poster. Most Creative Poster Best Rewrite/Poem Funniest Poster Funniest Post Most Welcoming to New Joiners Most Helpful After a Question Is Posed Most Willing to Voice Their Opinion Most Respectful Even Through Disagreements Most Likely to Cheer Up Someone in a Bad Mood Most Likely to Post Things That Make You Go Hmmm… Awesomest Nickname Awesomest Signature Best Avatar What do people think?
  16. I've known two prisoners of the japanese who worked on that railway. One man 'put it away'……..The other was broken.. The first, Denis 'P' became a fairly close….. (golf, dinner and family occasion) friend. He died in his 80s having become one of the oldest recipients of an O-level, (in Italian) and still 'riding out' each morning. He NEVER mentioned any of his war experiences and I never asked him about them. He had enough interesting stories about other matters to keep me enthralled. I think he just put that part of his life into a box somewhere inside and tried to forget. He lived a great life. Marrying one of the daughters of his pre-war fiancé (she hadn't waited), som nam na her! The other prisoner was a teacher at my secondary school 'Mr X' He had crazy, grey Einstein hair and a nervous twitch and we all thought he was nutty. Being boys and spotting weakness we took the piss whenever we could. I remember him showing us slides about the night sky. He was perched on a desk at the front and looking straight out at us. He pointed to a star behind him with a ruler, saying, "This is the constellation of Cassiopeia" Giggles ….He turned and re-points his ruler and repeats himself. Full on laughter erupts. He looks behind him, re-points and bangs the screen and says "THIS IS CASSIOPEIA" This went on for a while with my mate 'Forbsey', who'd been delegated control of the slide-projector, gently shifting it's angle each time and bouncing Cassiopeia all over the night sky until this, 'product of Japanese fucking inhumanity' …...and now a victim of our vicious humour, was facing the screen and following Cassiopeia with his ruler pointing and calling ,"Here….Here……No here!" Not long afterwards our Deputy Head came to see us he told us quietly about what 'Mr X' had been through. From that day on everyone of us little shits behaved respectfully towards him…... …….We all had been taught a lesson. Not least, I can see, is that I can still remember how to spell cassiopeia. Wherever you are up in the 'night-sky'… Mr X………"Sorry."
  17. Fixed that for you I think it was Teelack you recently chided for making 'personal' comments……….
  18. This isn't the quote I recall….. but it will do………….. "I'll hold my hand up and admit to having purchased NZ, Aussie, French, Ireland, SA, Argentina, Japan and even Hong Kong and Fiji rugby shirts. You'd be kidding yourself if you thought it had anything to do with whoever England happened to be playing." Cheshire Tom circa 2010 It's just it seemed from a couple of your posts that you like to dress up and get in the spirit for matches….You dress the girls too you say…….I remember the '40 reasons you won't be supporting England' thread and the girl you dressed in an Argentinian kit. I'm sure there's nothing more to it than that you don't feel you look your best in white. There's no reason why you should. But will you be dressing up……. as in past years?
  19. So you've ordered your Italian, Uruguayan and Costa Rican shirts?
  20. My favourite wine has gone from 549 bt to 665 bt a bottle everywhere except Tesco…… 599. In England I can still get it on special in at least one of the 5 main supermarkets for a fiver!!……250 baht. I'd still rather drink it here though.
  21. Teelack sidestepped you without my help……….
  22. My son has an interesting perspective on the traits of Thailand's tourists. He looks kindly upon the many Arabs at the go-kart track. They are crazy and dangerous but generally without malice. Russians are vindictive and sore losers, looking to take him out if they can. The Korean's and Chinese polite and slow…..very VERY slow. Takes all sorts I suppose... Some of the Russian women are sultry-slutty-hot……That's my perspective not his…….It's a perspective that brings me some solace …. makes up a little for their rudeness.
  23. I was just asking a question I knew the answer to. Tom gave me that idea.
  24. Are there any closures or restrictions coming up
  25. Papps is just being 'funny' here……To spell it out... Americans are the 'victims' in the main vid…….. The thread is about Americans bashing other Americans…..
